The poor guy had his demons as we all do...but man did he write a lot of great songs! The guys of Warrant have him to thank for their success. RIP Jani!
Staynlis Absolutely… Has anyone ever look at the writing lyrics and song credits to cherry pie he wrote everything… And I mean everything lyrics the song the whole deal… What does that say so when the guys in Warrant today are touring and playing all the songs that he wrote and making money..... thank you Jani
You are absolutely right! He wrote absolutely everything! He was such a good guy that he even gave the other band member song credits, when it was solely him that wrote all the songs .. Personally I think it sucks, that yes they are still out there making money on all of his songs ! The rest of the band pails in comparison to him
If you’re interested if you type in “jani lane Nevaeh re-versed” I reversed the 1990 version of HEAVEN by warrant- it’s super interesting - if you read the comments and replies, especially the comment with the most replies / and there’s a comments that lead to a call in radio show where I have additional info 💖
I was at this show great singer Ohio midwest guy Jani was he passed away in a hotel in Woodland Hills Ca where I grew up to this day every time I pass there I think of him great vocalist seemed like a great guy all around good singer/good band
I feel blessed to have seen Jani perform live with Warrant six times. Each time he always had a great connection with the crowd and kicked everyone's asses! He sounded great at this performance as well and truly seemed happy. I hope he has finally found the peace that he could not find here on earth. The greatest compliment I can pay to Jani is to pass his music onto my children, so they can know how rock music should sound.
Jani Lane unlike some of the lead singers of that era like Axl Rose never lost his voice! Jani Lane was one of the nicest superstars ever and loved his fans! We lost such a great person when he passed! I wish someone could have done as much for him as he did for others!
Jani doesn’t kill his chords by being famous for a banshee screech. Axl can still sing fine, it’s the higher stuff he struggles with. I think he’s finally started shifting songs down so he can sing them without injuring his vocal cords again. But Axl also has an inhuman voice. Listen to IRS on Chinese Democracy. High as fuck. Dude hits an F#5
My teenage nephew is learning to play guitar, and I showed him how to put these few simple chords together to play this, telling him he's now at that age where the girls will actually fall for this.
I was in grade 5 when I fell in love with this song on the radio. I look at him in this video and see that I also did not take care of myself. I miss you Jani, see you one day buddy.
Some people get tired emotionally no matter your lifestyle money fame etc.! We all desire happiness. Hey what can I say. I take paxil every day survived 2 suicide attempts and I'm grateful I have that chance! Life is great! Breath people love 1 another. I'm Terry Davis Dexter Mo.Truth!
It sounds really dark, but I've grown to know only the good die young. Therefore, they can continue their lives through other people. Jani is gone, but definitely not forgotten. He wrote some of the best songs of the "hair/cock rock" bands ever, he didn't deserve to be in the lump of people. He was a REAL songwriter. The songs on "Dog Eat Dog" say that. "Andy Warhol Was Right", specifically. He really put that whole scene in lyrics with that one. Honestly most of the mainstays on MTV, at the time, probably wouldn't even have cared, let alone knew who Andy Warhol even was.
it's great hearing him joke about how so many of those ballads of the day started off with the same G chord on an acoustic: "I remember you,""Every Rose." He seemed like he was having a good time. And "No matter what your friends might say....fuck 'em." :-D Got to meet him once and he was a cool cat. Much love to his family.
I met him severely Times and he was always very Cool. What a True Talent he was. He could crush most of the bands of that genre with his singing and song writing
The fact that my generation doesn't listen to the gems called power ballads by these 80's and 90's hairbands is so sad. Jani & Warrant are my favorite band, and this song will forever be my favorite song. Such a beautiful story.
Fantastic performance. In hindsight, probably Jani's farewell performance with his song he loved. The voice and charisma never left him. He was a true talent, is missed by many. RIP Jani, thanks for the memories.
Each time I hear Jani sing this song it brings tears streaming down my face... I was 3 years younger than Jani but especially in the late 80's & early 90's I thought he hung the moon & stars, & truly believed there was nothing on earth he could not do... I had the privilege of seeing Warrant in concert in 1991 when I was 24 & knew EVERYTHING !!! I also had another occasion I was able to say "Hey" to this LEGEND, & got a handshake/hug it was incredible & something I will NEVER forget !!! I was at the time trying to work through losing my mother & this man, this poet, hell this genius gave us all this song, which ended up playing a pivotal role in my healing process... I will be FOREVER GRATEFUL for Jani Lane (May you rest in peace & party with the other GREAT ARTISTS who have gone before you my friend) but I will always cry over this song because it gave me courage again after losing my mom, & then it totally broke my heart when I played it for Jani after we lost him... I believe I will see you once again when it is my turn to leave this earth & I hope I get to talk to you a lot longer Jani & convey to you just how much you did for me while I was growing up... I mean I feel like I grew up WITH Jani, cause I was so stuck on Warrant that they needed to put me into rehab to get them out of my system... I listened to all the hot bands that were rockin it right in the 80's & 90's but Warrant was ALWAYS in my #1 slot... It was Jani Lane that was wallpapered in any & all empty spaces on my wall in my bedroom, I bought every magazine, every poster I could find, hell I still have my collection of Jani Lane "Rock Cards" I can't even try to lie & say I was not HOTT for his bod, I mean COME ON ALREADY, but it really was MORE than that, WAY MORE !!! his WORDS to so many of the songs he gave all of us fans mirrored things which happened in my life & I lived vicariously through him by following his career & what was happening with him... I married a long haired rocker type (not famous of course, but a damn good guitarist) & he shared in my love of the words that flowed through the songs, we had a week long honeymoon, & we jammed to Jani the entire week, alone, having a great time, Jani's music made Warrant what they were in their heyday, & that is not taking a damn thing away from the others because Erik, Jerry, Joey & Steven are ALL legends, AWESOME MUSICIANS all the way around, & the band did what they had to, to carry on, when the beasts began & continued to take this man a little more away from all of us over time, & when it got impossible to help Jani, they still cared about what was happening to their friend of so many years... & they needed to make some decisions about who would fill that spot (such a monumental task) & I am not taking ANYTHING away from Jaime St James OR Robert Mason by saying this, because they are also both AWESOME in their own rights, & I have seen & heard much from both before & during their time with Warrant, but THEY SHOULD NEVER BE COMPARED to Jani, I think he would have hated that concept... I think we should enjoy what others give us when bands we love move along & change in time, love the new additions, BUT respect the space they are trying to cover, because in all truth NOBODY will EVER fill the shoes of Jani Lane, they broke the mold when they made him, & now Heaven has him back, & we will NEVER see that exact talent ever again from any artist... I am happy for Jani he is back with his dad & mom & mine too, & I hope when my turn arrives I am welcomed into Heaven with this song playing because that would be the most perfect way I can think of to leave this world... Back to watch it again now, & THANK YOU SO MUCH to Bootleg Video Funhouse for posting this video... YOU F'KN ROCK !!! I am thankful that once we have an artist like Jani recorded, we have a part of them FOREVER... Swing It Jani !!!
you were really blessed to met this awesome and beautiful human being. i wish i could meet him, talk to to him, hug him, and it's so heartbreaking to realize that will never happen, if there could be a possibility now this possibilty doesn't exist, you were lucky to be able to see him. he's my angel
I know you left this comment a long time ago, but just wanted to leave a message to say that your comment was a wonderful tribute. I know Jani saw it in Heaven.
The Band that worked with Jani this show were excellent. Only one person this night was in Warrant was Jani. He sounded so great and with the band you think you were at a Warrant Concert in the late 80's and 90's. I am still in Shock from his death. I am not one to cry at the death of a Famous person. I just remember the day it was announced on the radio about his death and they played Heaven. That brought a few tears to my eyes. Jani you will never ever be forgotten.
Jani Lane left an amazing and indelible mark on music. A true artist that will live on in the notes of his amazing songs. What a gift to the World Jani was!
Jani was a really good guy with really bad demons, knew him in the 80s from the Strip, the great ones always leave the party early, I guess they are needed elsewhere 😔
I seen Warrant open up for Motley Crue Dr. Feelgood tour at Nassau County Collisium in New York. Warrant was just as big as Motley Crue was at the time...what a great concert!!
I miss you Jani Lane, even though I haven't met you but listening to your music made me feel like I've known you for a very long time. Thank you for your music man. And thank you for being my idol and my inspiration. R.I.P. Jani Lane!! I love you man
I still Feel really bad About Jani Lane Dying. He was really a cool dude. He thought somehow he was the in his words "the Cherry Pie Guy" But that is not the song that I thought of when i thought of him, actually is this one here, "Heaven". Sorry that he had to fight inner demons. RIP BUDDY!
@@chevynovascotia3301 He sure did ! After that song came out wasn't long that hair bands fizzled .I guess he feels like he was pushed into writing that song and boom thats wut hes known for mostly . But when i hear warrant I start singing heaven ! So beautiful!! Warrant and Cinderella my two favorites . Miss those days :(
Wow! I didn't expect that he could sing it like he use to back in the day but it's amazing!!! Glad to see a guy his age still kicking' ass!!! R.I.P Jani Lane! Thank you for you music!!! You will always be my idol and my inspiration!!!
He sounds as good here, as he did in the 80’s, when they broke into the mainstream. It’s a tragedy what happened to him when he was younger. He never got over it, and was to embarrassed to tell anyone, so he could get help. Unfortunately, he turned to alcohol, and it cost him his life. He was such a talented singer/songwriter. RIP Jani Lane
@SAM CYPRESS apparently he was raped by a famous heavy metal band and manager back in the day probably right before Warrant came onto the scene. Very tragic and sad. Wish we knew who did it
Ok...I didnt like warrant at first. However..I saw these guys in Dallas Ally. I was about 9th row in a street. Jani Lane was so Fning awsome. The band rocked!. I bought the cd the next day. I truelly hurt Janie has passed...truelly. These boys blocked about 6 blocks in Dallas. It was unreal. Rest in peace Janie. Scott
every time i hear that voice (every day) i just keep wishing i got a chance to see him live, will always be one of the best singers, at least we have people on youtube to share videos of his live shows, gives people a taste of how great it was to see him in concert, can tell from all his videos that his fans meant the world to him, RIP Jani Lane
This footage is so unbelievable! Can't match that voice. Sounded so awesome even after they split again! RIP Jani I was fortunate enough to catch you a few times over the years.
R.I.P JANI!!!!! oNe of MY fave soNgs!!!! Me n my best friend use 2 sit up at night and sing this ALL THE TIME!!!!!! WE LOVE IT!!!!! Wish u were still in our world! But now you are in heaven!!!!!!! lots o love!!!!!:)
Lord I’m over here bawling watching this! It has new meaning now that I’m a mom. I wasn’t even born when they were big but had I been a teenager back then I would’ve loved to have seen them live!! I hate that I’ll never get to see bands like these..I’m 29 and was raised on hair bands and other rock.
Yeah I really don't get it when people make fun of 80s music. To those of us who were fortunate to have our formative teen years in the 80s I feel we were blessed with the best decade of music... pop and rock. ❤
Love you man.... I miss you... Every time I pick up a guitar, the first tune I play is this one... and I feel your presence... you will always kick arse!!!
Of all the songs in the 1980's it is this one that makes me miss that decade the most. If you weren't born you sure missed out on a great time. I got nostalgic when I watched Rock of Ages recently. I'm glad this song featured in the movie. Felt like a tribute to this man. Jani we salute you !
Jani, i stumbled onto this video, great to see you and you sound excellent! Your voice has not blown as some from that era still touring. My daughter was a baby when this song was popular and she would stand in front of the TV and dance, she was i think 2, she is 19 now. I was a professional drummer myself back then, so music was our lives. Steph STILL watches the old video's of you and says nobody will ever be as HOT as you, she loves the wink at the end of the song. We youtube a lot!
I remember leaving the highschool parking lot in my Roadrunner early summer 89’ .....my girlfriend pops in a cassette and says “ you gotta hear this band Warrant”.....
always sad to see someone who gave us music that brings back those "80'" memories...those were incredible years...the best in my life - it brings back memories of Clemson University, incredible Parties, and lots of Crazy LOVE! i hope that he passes over in peace...we lose so many incredible artists, way to early in their life...RIP...we will always remember you...
I remember reading in a Metal Edge interview he scored perfect on his ACTS or SATs, I forget which... I was only 14, but I never doubted the authenticity of his claim because of his lyrical ability. He was a genius and I wish he was still here to see how much his fans truly love and appreciate the legacy he left. I can't listen to any of his music without being instantly transported back to 1989. I remember being so transfixed and in awe of their style and presence. Down Boys was the first video I saw and I thought they were the coolest guys around
GREAT SONG GREAT SINGER! RIP JANIE LANE!
You are in Heaven now Jani. Rest easy in heaven.

That's so sad that the band didn't even go to his funeral
@patricksheppard585 yes 💯. Also the 2 biggest songs on the first album were written by Jani before joining warrant, down boys and heaven.
Skip forward to 2023...I'd still rather go see this than the new version of Warrant.
Yes any day of the week.
Didn't know they were even around with out him
I went to see them, I walked out, it was just too too sad without him up there. RIP Jani.
this guy had a good soul in him.

Axl had it for like what, 4-5 years?
Jani doesn’t kill his chords by being famous for a banshee screech. Axl can still sing fine, it’s the higher stuff he struggles with. I think he’s finally started shifting songs down so he can sing them without injuring his vocal cords again.
But Axl also has an inhuman voice. Listen to IRS on Chinese Democracy. High as fuck. Dude hits an F#5
Dont get even close o the high notes in Gnr songs

Vastly underrated singer and songwriter. True example of someone used for his talent then spit out and ignored when he needed help.
Saw Warrant twice ('89 & '02). Amazing. Jani was the consumate entertainer. He was the ultimate front-man. RIP.

RIP Jani...thanks for sharing your voice with us.
Love how he starts doing Every Rose has its Thorn😂 I saw him 3 times in the early 90’s and have his autograph!
He had a great sense of humor!😅😂🎉
Lord I’m over here bawling watching this! It has new meaning now that I’m a mom.
I wasn’t even born when they were big but had I been a teenager back then I would’ve loved to have seen them live!! I hate that I’ll never get to see bands like these..I’m 29 and was raised on hair bands and other rock.
Yeah I really don't get it when people make fun of 80s music. To those of us who were fortunate to have our formative teen years in the 80s I feel we were blessed with the best decade of music... pop and rock. ❤
Yeah this is one of the best that walked the earth. He's an amazing guy and was always kind to everyone. Wicked songs too !!
RIP Jani. We miss you.
Love you man.... I miss you... Every time I pick up a guitar, the first tune I play is this one... and I feel your presence... you will always kick arse!!!
Always Excellent.. amazing person... Love him .
R.I.P. Jani. You were a great singer and songwriter
He looks healthy and happy here! RIP
I miss you! You were one of the greats of the 80's and I miss that era also.
R.I.P. Jani Brother to us all
Of all the songs in the 1980's it is this one that makes me miss that decade the most. If you weren't born you sure missed out on a great time. I got nostalgic when I watched Rock of Ages recently. I'm glad this song featured in the movie. Felt like a tribute to this man. Jani we salute you !
I couldn't love this more!! 💕
I would sing this song to my babies when I rocked them to sleep. I can't believe he's gone. He is missed.
All the great ones have passed away, Jani had a great voice and stage presents. rip
RIP Jani, we love you man! You sound great!
