      He's only using like 10-20ml of Ether the fumes are not concentrated enough in that amount to pose a threat , he wasn't wearing gloves either and I'm sure it is for the same reason. For all we know there may have been a flow hood or something capturing the fumes as well, he didn't really break down his setup or lab environment.

      so it's people just seeing a thing for only how it directly relates to them. When people hear distilling they think only about alcohol and getting drunk. they are not thinking about all the other uses of distilling. yes you can use distilling to get drunk, you can also use it to make too many things to list. logic, math, physics, and chemistry are the practical functioning workings of reality, it's always useful to know them. Many people regard them as normally boring to learn. So if the idea of using them to help get drunk makes you excited about learning them. then it's a really good thing right?

    • @RoCkShaDoWWaLkEr
      @RoCkShaDoWWaLkEr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Salvia is a straight solvent extraction and the solvent is evaporated off while other Salvia leaves absorb the isolated molecule. It may seem the same in principle ;but Salvia concentrates aren't gotten by any sort of Acid/Base extraction it's achieved through solvent pulls only, the solvent pulls the molecule/alkaloid then the solvent gets evaporated and the molecules recaptured in highly concentrated amounts back into plant material ;but not the same plant material the extractions are done from, nor do you recapture the solvent making Salvia Concentrates (I'm sure there is a separation technique to actually isolate the molecule from the solvent ;but just letting it evaporate while using the plant itself to capture the good stuff works fine). What he did is very very different and actually a process of chemistry, he didn't just do a solvent pull- he used Acid/Base and solvent, with solvent only serving the purpose of recapturing one molecule while the water solubility he created by converting the Benzo was done to isolate the now water soluble molecule so that only one would remain in the solvent layer and rather than require evaporation of solvent it just required filtering and washing with water (I would bet Salvia even concentrated is a water soluble molecule that if rinsed with water would remove everything you just worked to collect). I'm not trying to be an Ahole or argumentative and only took the time to break it down for you in hopes of clearing up the misconception for you, you seem pretty passionate about the spirit plants so I wanted to share my perspective.

    • @Amipotsophspond
      @Amipotsophspond 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      many teachers are people that majored in education not the subject they are teaching. while this makes them personable and most importantly "get the job" some of the more in-depth aspects of a subject they lack fundamental understanding. any subject is so vast that it's really easy to find a small area to research, that you can quickly surpass your teachers understanding. when you start to interrogate them about it publicly in front of many parents you will look gifted. the best option for them is to admit they don't know, but few are secure enough to do this they will feel they are lousing authority and overact making them look like tyrant. if done right you can get them fired and look like a gifted victim. wreck authority that can't admit it doesn't know all.

      Most of grunt work of chemistry is purifying mixtures and chemicals. so say you have a reaction that makes two chemicals. chem X and chem Y. now let's say X has a boiling point of 50C and Y has a boiling point of 50C you can not separate them by distilling you have to do something else. so this is a method is a tool for the chemistry worker that might work for separating X and Y. a lot chemistry is using best tool for the job, and knowing what that tool is by knowing the tool not memorizing instructions. chemistry is the same chemistry aliens use in another galaxy, so don't limit your self by Needing what the instructions call for understand the principles that are going on, and think about how could be improved. What is the purpose of formula for the area of a circle? could you use it to build a gazebo is that it's purpose yes, could you use it to build a telescope is that it's purpose yes, it's purpose is infinite. the area of a circle is one small part of math? this one small part of chemistry. like math, and physics it is glorious.
