    5 DIFFERENT STYLES OF LEADERSHIP
    #1. Authoritative Style
    Authoritative leaders are usually confident, defining individuals who want people to follow them. "This is what we are doing!”
    #2. Democratic Style
    Democratic leaders are likely to ask you want you think about a specific situation or direction they want to take the team in.
    #3. Transformational Style
    Transformational leaders continually embrace change and they believe ‘development’ will allow them and their team to achieve their objectives.
    Transformational leaders will lean towards the future.
    #4. Coaching Style
    Coaching leaders identify talent within their teams and they then nurture it to achieve its full potential. This then enables the team to grow, develop and succeed.
    #5. Laissez-Faire Style
    Laissez-Faire Style leaders tend to put their trust in their team and they usually leave them to get on with their jobs, only getting involved when the need arises.
    WHICH STYLE OF LEADERSHIP DO EMPLOYERS PREFER?
    Transformational Leaders are more suited to businesses in the modern, 21st century, simply because the PACE OF CHANGE is so rapid!

    I suppose the style of leadership you adopt depends on the situation you are in and the team you are managing. For example, if you are managing a team with a lack of direction and a lack of discipline, an autocratic style would be better so that you can let them know what it is you expect of them and how you want them to fulfil what you expect. To cope with the amount of change that an organisation of today is going through, then I definitely agree that a transformational style will be the best one to adopt. Thinking about how you can help your team to develop to meet the demands of these changes.Finally, if you know that one of your team members is talented and you want to nurture that talent, then I believe a coaching style will be advantageous and will be great for letting the team develop naturally. I would never personally use the fifth style of leadership. You can’t always rely on your team members being self-motivated. Neither would I use the democratic style. I believe that a leader is there to lead, not to ask the team members what they think. In my opinion that is a lack of leadership. I definitely believe that a leader should lead by example. If we can be the best we can be, then we can motivate others to follow in our footsteps.

    Thank you for the information on the different leadership styles, I believe I have more of a coaching leadership style and transformational style, simply because I am always thinking of the future, keeping up with the everyday changes, I am able to pivot and change to stay productive in a organization.

    Thank you - it’s always a mixture of all these depending on the situation and the team. When there’s no time - authority wins. When your position is firm and someone wants to learn - it’s coaching. When clear restrictions are in place, you cannot be transformational - otherwise there’s always something to improve, without that you would not have been recruited in the first place.
    It also changes for each team member. With very good performance and already set team it’s best to start with the 5th and democratic, to see who fits currently into the team and how.

    I don’t have a particular leadership style; I combine different leadership styles depending on the rank/cadre of the people that am working with. I combined democratic, transformational and authoritative type of leadership to achieve our vision.

    Hi Richard, my leadership stylr is a combination of trasformational and democratic style. I have managed a team in a previous role and my style of leadership was democractic. This absolutely worked and the team encouraged and worked together in harmony.

    Many thanks for the excellent video to pass the interview. Today, I have an interview for a material manager leader with a Germany company, but I do not want to work at this company if I am successful. Yesterday, I failed in passing the 1st interview for a project manager with an American mobile terminal company, I was shocked by this final result.

    Thanks a lot , it seems to me that having dynamic attitude to reach goals is a decent trait but its better to refuse classifying this trait as a separate and different style of leadership as transformational style . Other styles of leadership are also potentially able to have this attitude.

    It really depends on the situation. Initially my team was very inexperienced and raw so I was more of an authoritative and coaching leader. Needless to say, some left...
    But now, after many years, the team has gained so much experience and operates like a well oiled machine with checks and balances so I can afford to be lazze-fair and democratic. Having said that, I am a servant leader so I lead by example and do my share. They all appreciate it.

    I have noticed in my career as a Police Officer that there is no one set of leaderships styles, especially in American Law Enforcement. I prefer an Authoritative Style, for that 10% of the time when you need to make decisive decisiion, but a Transformational leader, that understands that not everyone has all of the answers. I understand that there are some individuals that have better ideas than me, but i am not bothered by the fact that they are much more astute....

      Hi Ravi, this is a great question. My answer would focus on getting up to speed quickly, meeting each team member and finding out what they do, what their strengths are, and listening to team ideas. I'd also stress that as I am financially aware, I would want to get up to speed as quickly as possible. The rest of my answer would depend on what the employer has said they are after, which should be outlined in the job description/specification :)

    Transformational and Coaching are my current and preferred leadership styles. However, I would say you sometimes have to be flexible depending on the type of work and personnel within your staff.

    i feel that every person requires a different Leadership, some need to be shown authority and some need to be shown acknowledgement of their experience. i definitely lean more to a mixture of all the leadership styles, it comes down to the individuals being dealt with

    I have an interview tomorrow morning and your videos have been most helpful in my crash course of preparation! I feel that I’m a strong combination of TRANSFORMATIONAL and DEMOCRATIC with COACHING sprinkled in as it’s needed to support the transformational vision.     I think there is another style you are missing here: The transactional style. This is a leader that relies on metrics and data to plot course and direction. This type of leader would show data to employee on where they went wrong, and ask for a correction.
