The best things about this guy? His voice is clear, no mumbling or hesitations, and not too many umms or urrrs. He sounds like he knows what is going on and is in control, always a bonus. He does not sound stressed pissed off or over-worked, and actually sounds like he is enjoying his job. His sense of humour is definitely the icing on the cake. The world needs more like him.
He really did demonstrate confidence and control in a difficult situation. He seemed to just accept that no one was going to get the gate they thought they would get when they touched down, and he didn't take that fact personally. He just proceeded with giving alternate routes that placed all aircraft in safe positions to hold and wait for a workable gate to open for them, knowing that everyone is going to get to where they're going soon enough. He also knew that the collision response was being coordinated on another frequency. But he didn't let that chaotic and potentially aggravating situation permeate onto his frequency or let it affect the way he communicated with pilots who had nothing to do with it and were just looking to complete their flight plan.
The non-stressed and in-control characteristics is generally true of ATC. I agree this guy's one of the really good ones, though; as things pile up instead of getting super-fast and cranky, he gets just slightly faster and more precise.

It occurred to me while listening to "Canada Steve" how valuable controllers are when they excel at their main job, but more than that, the humor, the banter, the lack of attitude, the apparent love of what they do, injects into the ATCS a sigh of relief for pilots. I believe they, over time, and when there are more like them, provide a measure of FLIGHT SAFETY into the cockpit that may not be measurable, but nevertheless, you can hear it in the pilots voices. It sounded like a love fest out there, and that's a good thing, because both pilots and controllers have, for the most part, very stressful work environments. I missed Kennedy Steve's retirement, but I wish him the best possible rewards for the years he invested and the role model he displayed for so long.
