- The first run of the day at the WannaGoFast 2017 Virginia 1/2 mile event. Faced off against a 71' Pantera that could definitely be classified as "modified." Just listen to that 351 Cleveland motor. I definitely fell asleep at the tree on this one though....

😁 Yes, and there's a lot of everyday drivers who take a seemingly ridiculous amount of time in determining what it is they are supposed to do when the stoplight's color changes from red to green! Although it's usually not as big an issue with race car drivers, ^this was an unusually slow reaction time.

I am a previous owner of a Pantera and my father have owned it since the 80s when I was a kid well now we have a 408 stroker kit we dropped n let me tell you that thing was fast before completely different animal now that thing pulls the wheels off the ground with a gear ratio of 460 came from Factory that way but yes what an amazing car coming up it's going to be almost 50 years old definitely cool car to own I don't think I'll ever get rid of it

They are more special than almost any other car to ever exist. And because of their history and manufacturing modding them is not only ok but expected. Shockingly fast for the time and better than anything you could get for the price or even within 4 times that. Most perfect car of all time. Exotic American muscle that a man can work on himself and take care of himself.

I used to have Mach1 Mustangs and ran modified Clevelands, They start making power at 5500rpm and pull through 7800 rpm, shit at 7500 rpm with automatics Clevelands were so under rated. Great video , I have Corvettes now.

@@gordocarbo did i say mine was stock? c,mon man. 14K long block and lots of valve train help. engine never broke, rear end,,,c5 diffs are horrible after 600hp rear wheel.

Ford has it all figured out. Nothing sounds like Ford Power. Between the Pantera and the remarkable Ford GT, it really never got any better, nor will it ever again.
Pantera stock 1971 was about 350 hp I believe, so it is not "heavily" modified at just +100hp, that is pretty much just modestly modified. The Vette in 2007 was 400 hp to 505 hp depending upon model so the two cars are fairly equal in that regard, just sayin.
Not sure I'd say fairly equal, he did trap 13 mph higher, which is a pretty significant difference. I think it would have been a little bit closer had I not looked over and missed the light, but I still wouldn't have come close to beating him. The owner claimed it makes about 450hp, but I think it might have been making a little bit more. His trap speed was pretty much equivalent to most of the 500hp cars. Also, I consider heads/cam or anything requiring opening up the engine "heavily" modified. I don't know what all work was done to it, but it sounded like it was at least cammed. Car looked and sounded amazing though, like an absolute beast! Btw the vette is a base model w/ 400hp.

You had better hope the Pantera was ‘heavily modified’. But never underestimate what a 351 Cleveland can do. The intake ports can fit a tennis ball. Your Corvette ? Not so much. Don’t ask me how I know.

Nobody wants to live with a stock one so while you are polishing out the issues why not bump up the power? They are very very fast with modifications.
I am assuming the Pantera had a carb and the Corvette has fuel injection with an ECU to compensate for the 3800 FT elevation.
Correct. The elevation made the car feel extremely sluggish even with re-jetting the carb.

Listen to the can in that Pantera, then listen to a modern muscle car making the same HP. Technology is a great thing. VVT, injection, computerized timing and you now have a daily driver and muscle all in one. LOL Imagine a Pantera with a Coyote or Voodoo.

THE LS engine is chevys attempt to make their version of a Ford engine. Not bad but that Cleveland in that Pantera showed Chevy only Ford can build a Ford engine 💪🏼

@@gordocarbo do more research about the interchangeability of the LS heads (not 6 bolt) on a small block Ford. Even down to you can cut off the header flange of an LS and. Small block Ford flange is a direct weld on. 🤷♂️

The Pantera has the 351 Cleveland engine with stacks and the curb weight is substantially less...there should have been so level of starting handicap to make this at the very least a race.

It's 1/2 mile racing. You have the faster car, you go faster and finish ahead. It is pretty simple. No need to handicap.
