That's an American V8 for ya. They just sound like that. Always. Going on back to the 100hp 3.7l units Ford put in their cars way back in the mid 1930s they ALL Sound brutal. That's why we fucking love them so much and put them in EVERYTHING, why we put up with their meh fuel economy. They. Sound. AMAZING! Nothing matches it.
The engine in this car is basically the same engine you find in rustbucket farm trucks all around the country from the same era. The ones put in Panteras did have some hopups compared to the ones in the F-250s and F-350s, but these were fitted in the factory specific to that car.

My dad had a stock '73 "L" model for many many years and at the club events we'd go to there were some Panteras running effectively NASCAR motors others running twin turbo setups, etc. You need serious attachments to drive one quickly but they can be tuned/built to obliterate just about anything.

@@xXAlmdudlerXx It's probably stock. The engines put in the Panteras had decently hot cams, intakes, carbs, exhausts right from the factory. It wouldn't be stock for the F-250s and Thunderbirds you typically found a 351c in, but it's still 'stock' in that it was sold in that configuration.
That's one nice thing about the American smallblock from that era. They were versatile. The same block, crank, rods, pistons, heads were just as at home hauling half a dozen round hay bales out of a field at 25mph as they were sending an italian doorstop down the Mulsanne at 180mph.
