The controversial practice, known as halala, is believed by a small minority of Muslims to be the only way a divorced woman can get back with her husband after a triple talaq - an instant divorce where a man says 'talaq' three times to his wife. These marriages can leave women open to financial exploitation, blackmail and even sexual abuse.

Hello everyone . I just wanted to clarify for the Muslims . First of all halala (short term marriage with another man, so that a divorced women can remarry her first husband) is prohibited in Islam a man cannot marry any women for a short period of time i.e for a night or two and then divorce her . Our Prophet has cursed such a person . Secondly people have an issue with three talaq .But we don't understand the importance of this matter . Let me explain how Islam says if a man divorces his wife 3 times he cannot remarry her unless she marries another man . Islam doesn't want that women to remarry the same guy that divorced her thrice without thinking .Islam honours women what I mean by my statement is that if a man that doesn't even care for his women and gave her 3 talaq(divorce) at once ,he could've given 2 talaq(divorce) or 1 talaq(divorce) which doesn't require any kind of halala. Islam doesn't want that women to get insulted by the same man again that is why the women has to remarry (another person) to remarry the same guy who divorced her. But if she remarries a guy ( not temporarily and not what shown in the video) she is likely to be happier then her first marriage (in which she got 3 divorces) . “The Prophet was asked about a man who divorced his wife three times, then another man married her and he closed the door and drew the curtain, then divorced her before consummating the marriage with her. He said: “She is not permissible for the first one (to remarry her) until the second one has had intercourse with her.”” (Nasai)

below are Seven verses on Divorce and Re-marriaing topic in Qur'an (Qur'an 2:226 to 2:232 ) chapter 2, verses 226 to 232.

For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives is a waiting time of four months, but if they return [to normal relations] - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Divorced women remain in waiting for three periods, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allah has created in their wombs if they believe in Allah and the Last Day. And their husbands have more right to take them back in this [period] if they want reconciliation. And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them [in responsibility and authority]. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
(2:229)
Divorce is twice. Then, either keep [her] in an acceptable manner or release [her] with good treatment. And it is not lawful for you to take anything of what you have given them unless both fear that they will not be able to keep [within] the limits of Allah . But if you fear that they will not keep [within] the limits of Allah, then there is no blame upon either of them concerning that by which she ransoms herself. These are the limits of Allah, so do not transgress them. And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah - it is those who are the wrongdoers.
(2:230)
And if he has divorced her [for the third time], then she is not lawful to him afterward until [after] she marries a husband other than him. And if the latter husband divorces her [or dies], there is no blame upon the woman and her former husband for returning to each other if they think that they can keep [within] the limits of Allah . These are the limits of Allah, which He makes clear to people who know.
(2:231)
And when you divorce women and they have [nearly] fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable terms or release them according to acceptable terms, and do not keep them, intending harm, to transgress [against them]. And whoever does that has certainly wronged himself. And do not take the verses of Allah in jest. And remember the favor of Allah upon you and what has been revealed to you of the Book and wisdom by which He instructs you. And fear Allah and know that Allah is Knowing of all things.
(2:232)
And when you divorce women and they have fulfilled their term, do not prevent them from remarrying their [former] husbands if they agree among themselves on an acceptable basis. That is instructed to whoever of you believes in Allah and the Last Day. That is better for you and purer, and Allah knows and you know not.

But if all her family and friends are convinced she must stick with her abusive husband, the woman has basically nowhere to go except some kind of women's shelter - but this would mean entrusting herself to complete strangers. And another important point is - are there any Muslim shelters for women who suffer from abusive marriages? Is there anywhere where these women can go and not only live in the environment that makes it possible for them to live in the religion and culture they were brought up in, but where they can also receive proper education about their own religion - so they are not manipulated into becoming abuse victims again? If he the husband divorces her after the two utterances of divorce; she shall not be lawful to him after that after the third utterance of divorce until she marries another husband who has sexual intercourse with her as reported by the two Shaykhs Bukhārī and Muslim. If he the second husband divorces her then neither of them would be at fault that is the woman and her first husband to return to each other in wedlock after the completion of the waiting period if they think that they will maintain God’s bounds. Those matters mentioned are God’s bounds which He makes clear to a people who have knowledge a people who reflect.

I watched a Marathi movie named Halala and got stunned after seeing and knowing about this. How a society and culture adhere to this for the sake of loyalty to their religion is unthinkable. Still I strongly believe that Lack of Education in women makes women crippled, dependent, helpless and hopeless. Marriage was never set to get a divorce, divorce was allowed in the Islamic faith if the marriage between the spouses is not good. Allah (God) knows the intention of those people and their marriage might be invalidated.
Halala was never practiced in Islamic history nor was it instructed in the Qur'an to practice this people tend to take the verses out of context and and make it look like that this type of practice is allowed when in fact it's not, Allah never made it the law to get married only to get divorced. That's not the condition of marriage.

In Islam, there three stages in divorce, which is called talaaq. This basically means you can marry the wife for three times after for each talaaq. But three talaaqs in one go is forbidden. After the third talaaq, the man can only marry the woman after she is divorced with another man (if the second man wants to divorce her. If he wants to keep the marriage, the woman can choose to stay or pay the man the desired money to divorce her). But if there's a case where the second man only married her just so that he will divorce her to allow her to marry the first man, that is also not allowed.
It's basically so that the talaaq is erased (that is how I understand it though, there might be other explanations that are a lot better than this)

Why does Allah make divorce so easy and then come up with such rules to deter it being used? It reminds me of how the punishment for adultery is so severe but there has to be four witnesses (never happens). @Byron Milton this isn't part of our religion rather it has been prohibited. Abu Dawood (2076) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has cursed the muhallil and the muhallal lahu.” This was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Sunan Abi Dawood.
The muhallil is the one who marries a woman and divorces her so that she can go back to her first husband, and the muhallal lahu is the first husband.

When a man divorces his wife and this is the first or second talaaq and she has not ended her iddah (by giving birth if she is pregnant or by the passage of three menstrual cycles), then he can take his wife back by saying: " I am taking you back" or “I am keeping you." Then his taking her back is valid. Or he may do some action intending thereby to take her back, such as having intercourse with the intention of taking her back.

Your wives are your tilth : so you may go to your tilth as you please,241 but you should take care of your future242 and refrain from the displeasure of Allah. Know it well that One Day you shall meet Him. (O Prophet !) bear good tidings to the Believers.
What i understand as a Muslim from it is...
- Not to have sex in the days of periods. once the days are over, sexual relations can be resumed again.
- There is a certain lawful manner sex is to be performed, which is viginal only.
- Refrain from evil ( doing wrongful deeds, which in this case would be anal sex and having sex when the woman is during her days )
- Stay clean.
- Only have sex with your wife.
- you should have children only with your wife.
- You are responsible for the any children that might be an outcome of that sex in the future.
- refrain from giving up your responsibilities ( do not disown the child, take care of him/her)
- One day (after death) we all (humans) shall meet the God.
- O prophet Muhammad, the above mentioned way is the right/good way, tell this to the believers so that they follow it.

Divorce may be pronounced twice; then either the wife be kept honourably or parted with gracefully.250 And it is not lawful for you to take back anything out of what you have given them.251 There is, however, an exception to this; if you fear that they might not be able to keep within the limits imposed by Allah, there is no harm if both agree mutually that the wife should obtain divorce by giving something as compensation to the husband.252 These are the bounds set by Allah; therefore do not violate them, for those who violate the bounds of Allah are the transgressors.

It is transgression to retain them merely for harassment; and whoever' does that indeed wrongs his own self.254 Do not play with Allah's Commandments, and remember that Allah has blessed you with a great favour. He admonishes you to show due respect to the Book and the Wisdom He has sent to you.255 Fear Allah and know that He is fully aware of everything.

When you have divorced your wives absolutely and they have completed their prescribed term, then you should not prevent them from marrying their prospective husbands, if they mutually agree to marry each other in a lawful way.256 You are enjoined not to commit such an offence,if you sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day. It is most decent and pure for you to desist from this; Allah knows and you do not know.

- Divorce is to to given 3 times by the husband, in order for it to take final effect, ( so there is enough time for both parties to prepare for the consequences or for the husband to rethink his decision, each number also serves as a warning bell for the couple, as in after 2 bells, the 3rd one would be the final one, once it rings, there will be no going back then, the marriage "contract" will end)
- after 3 divorces has taken place, the couple would "break"; and all the privileges of the marriage contract are to be ceased (for example, husband and wife living and sleeping together); and those clauses in the marriage "nikah" contract which adhere to the termination of marriage (for example, distribution of property or undertaking of children) will come in effect.
- The concerned Couple cannot just remarry after divorce if they want to, they can only remarry if the the woman marries to someone else, and then gets divorced from her second husband. ( This is a very important rule that muslim husbands are ought to keep in their mind when thinking of divorcing their wives, because divorce is not a joke, that you divorce your wife one day and remarry her again the next day. If a man does give divorce to his wife, he should bear the burden that the very woman who is the mother of his children will have to spend a night with another man, only then can she come back to him, if he or she wishes so to be together. No body wants their wife to sleep with another man in their right mind, so better not to give that divorce if you truly love your wife and wish to spend your life with her. -- this connects back to the 3 divorces rule, so that the man can reflect upon the consequences once he has given one or two divorces to his lady.
- If the couple decides to remarry again, they have to be absolutely sure about their decision, both of them, If the husband gives divorce to the same wife again after they remarry, it is unlawful for him to do so. because then the lady will have to remarry again to someone else, and the whole marriage thing becomes a joke - which it is not.
- This is the guidance God has given regarding this matter for those who fear allah and fear the consequences of not obeying the laws of Allah, in this life and on the day of judgment.

Actually it's out of context: saying this three times is not enough to push the woman to marry with another man. Instead, if he divorce her and three period (menstrual) has passed, then she needs to marry someone else. But until the three period time doesn't end the couple can "remarry" again.

Most of us dont know what halala is and when we need it and why we need it.
In islam u can merry the same person 3 times. If u get divorced u can merry the same person again. And if u get divorce again u can merry again. But if u get divorce again u wont be able to get get merry with same person.
The reason behind this is to not take marrige as a joke. U cant merry same person and divorce again and again andagain. There has to be a limit. So the limit is 3.
Now lets talk about what happens when u get divorce 3 times. For a women its a way out. Its a chance for women to start a new life. Seek someone other then her ex. She has to merry someone with intention of started a life as couple. If her intentions are to get divorce and then get back to her ex thens its not halala. Its haram.
We live in a time where women has every right to choose her partner. But if we look at the history women saying didn't realy matter in so many cultures for a very long time. So in other words if a man divorce a girl and then asks her father for her hand again. He can have her again.
So islam put a stop to this by halala. U can only merry someone 3 times. After that women has to merry someone else and start a new life. But if it didn't work then she can merry her ex if she wants to.

Quraishi i use to think the same until my friend divorced her wife and wanted to get back with her. He saw some videos on youtube and told me you can get back with ur ex wife without halala. Thats when i started my research. I read Quran and Hadith and realised thats not the case. U can actually merry same person 3 times.
My advice is, dont belive me. U shouldn't belive any one. Just do your own research. Read Quran and Hadith. U will find it yourself.

In quran it's very clear on divorce, but I cannot explain to you here, I have also done significant research on it.
Quran just says to divorce one at a time between menses, but it never says says 3 won't be applied if given. Do more counter research and inshallah u will come to know, it's not really about one vs other just about the reality. And ijma of sahaba was on 3 is 3, which is extremely critical.

I've never heard/know about "Halala." 17 years studying my religion i never knew something like this does exist. I learn triple talaaq in my senior year in high school. Mimi Ahmad i read about it too. 15-16 year old girls were forced to do nikaah with 60+ aged men by forging her age . Then he would spend a couple of nights with her and then divorce her and go back to his country. The parents would agree to this for a small amount of money. One girl was married in this way with 2-3 men , one after another.

If my man divorced me I wouldn't want to be with him anymore. Why would I want to stay with someone who doesn't love me back. That's just selfish.
So this woman was beaten by her husband. Pulled her by her hair room to room for the present she got from her parents and his family was abusive towards her, but she was so much in love with him that she was so desperate to go back to him. What is wrong with some women?

As a woman I would die of shame then do halala. At least the way they’re explaining it.

It’s a test of whether their love is strong to go back but extremely painful.
Meaning they really are remorseful and deeply want to get back together.
In most cases this is a way for the woman to start a new life. So don’t go back to the man. Even if he’s the father of your children.
