    My grandmother hand made me 3-4 square kitchen pot holders. Just like these, different fabric. She made them when i got my 1st apartment at age 16. I'm 46 & still have them. :)

    Very nice and informative step-by-step instructions. Perfect for the beginner and reminders for us older sewers/quilters. Use an 8 1/2 x 10" block and 12 squares makes a nice mug rug. Great for birthday, Parents/Grand Parents' Day, Christmas, house warming and student/teacher home economic classes. Also great for those students going off to school with all their mini toaster-oven and waffle makers.

    Thank you for responding to my question. I do use a walking foot, check the pressure feet, needles, etc., and was advised at my sewing store to try to use a spray adhesive to keep them in place. I'm not crazy about using that but will try it. I just can't understand why the batting, insul-brite and cotton material keep shifting on me and I pin them in place all the way around.

    I always layer first lay down batting. The insul bright. Then backing right side up n the front pretty side down. This will hold the insul bright in place. When you top stitch it hold the insul bright perfect. Enjoy. Has really helped me. I have made 60 potholes for the food bank Thanksgiving baskets. I have 30 more to go

    The Insul bright makes thick corners. So I clip all four corners about 3/8 to 1/2 inch from point. The batting is not clipped. Now it makes the corners easy n perfect.

    What is the easoest fabric to use for a beginner kimono pattern

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mary Ann. The easiest would be 100% cotton. But I prefer a jersey knit fabric. To sew with knits use polyester fabric, and do a small zigzag stitch instead of a straight stitch on all the seams. Thanks for watching.😍

    Ma'am, can I use Insul Brite instead of batting in a table runner?

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rita. If you use Insul-Bright, on the package instructions they recommend that you use at least one square of cotton batting. If you don't have cotton batting, they cut up and old kitchen towel. Make sure the towel is 100% cotton. Hope this helps. Happy holidays. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

    I have watched your tutorials many times and have really good results. However, when I use batting and insulbrite, I find that they shift even though i have pins all around. How do you keep your batting and insulbrite from shifting when sewing? Is it the batting? Please help! And thank you..

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen. Are you using a "walking" presser foot. That helps the fabric layers from shifting. You can get one from a sewing machine dealer store, or go to sewingpartsonline.com. Enter the brand name and model name/number. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍💗😊

    • @doryhousel9301
      @doryhousel9301 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paula, this is a great way to get a feel for quilting. The nine patch is a very popular pattern for beginners. It’s actually how I started in quilting. This tutorial is explained very well. Once you make a small project, in no time, you’ll be making a lot of different things. Just my humble opinion of course. The most important thing is to have fun. Thankfully, there are no quilting police. You learn as you go and you will make mistakes, but don’t get discouraged. We all start somewhere. 😉

    How do you top stitch without doing the back

    • @TheSewingRoomChannel
      @TheSewingRoomChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kelly. The top stitching, also called quilting stitches, is done through all the layers of fabric and cotton batting. These stitches are done to hold all the layers in place so that they do not separate during use and the washing/drying cycle. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
