  • In this weeks video, we go after the long asked question if gear really matters. We switch our cameras and Chris shoots with the Nikon D850 while Mike uses the Canon R5. While trying to figure out all the camera settings, we also run into a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake.

    At last, my dream come true with you guys swapping gear. I remember making this comment last year and here it is. Mike, you are naughty boy. 'Toy'. The quirks showed through with both of you hunting for settings in both cameras. Ultimately, you both managed beautiful images and clearly would have done things a little differently with your own gear. For me the final image taken with any camera, shouts out when composed in such a way, that you just want to look at the image for ages. The cameras technology, combined with a great lens can only capture the moment to the best of its ability. Post production can improve where necessary, but it is always the photographers keen eye that wins the day. Well done for being brave enough to give it a go. Chris, I think it is safe to say that Mike was nearly swayed with swapping systems. He really liked some of the R5's offerings. Take care.

It would be hard to change brands. Unfortunately, I am disappointed with the Canon camera offering in the $1000 to $2000 price range. Great to see you. As always, thanks for sharing. Nyall

    I've shot Canon for nearly 30years and just accepted that I will probably never have 'The Best' camera on the market but if it gives me what I want and, above all, is easy to use then why swap systems as I'm no Tony/Chelsea Northrup to be able to just cash in all my glass and camera. The Nikon D850 is well renowned and given it's age still stacks up well. I think now Canon, Nikon & Sony all have great full frame cameras so unless you are someone who must have the highest spec gear you can make do. Having something that you instinctively know how to use means you are more likely to capture a given shot. using Siri to work a camera is priceless though Chris! 😂😂😂

    "How many info buttons do you need? Well, evidently all of them. Notice how she blames the camera for not having the buttons where she can find them, yet he blames himself for not being able to find the buttons. She had to get Siri's help, he figured it out. So I'm thinking she's totally biased without considering what the D850 has to offer, where he's open minded. Of course, we don't know beause we didn't get an opinion from her. The D850 is a superior camera in my opinion. It's always in the top few of the best cameras. DxOMark ranks the D850 4th behind two medium format cameras and one (newer) full frame (Sony). The R5 is ranked 19th. I know DxOMark isn't the ultimate authority, but they are a standard many people and companies use. AND I realize we can do "Which list is the best" game all day. In the end though, I believe it's all relative. It's like Ford and Chevy, which one is the best? I am 100% positive Chris and Mike could take pictures with a Canon Rebel and a Nikon N60 and put me to shame with my D850. So there's that.

    I think it's always a problem when switching camera gear. As a Sony user I'm familiar with the Sony menus but when looking at Canon or Nikon menus I'm also in deep trouble. I remember good the last time in the Dolomites when I stood on Gampenalm with a photography buddy and he did not know how to exposure bracket on his Canon 5D Mark 4. We tried to search through all the menu points but we were both not able to find the setting. Luckily we had an internet connection available so we did a search in TH-cam to find a video that explained the neccesary steps....

    I agree with Canon's noise issue. I'm not sure why, even i experience the same with my R. Just months back i started noticing it. There is a color noise even with iso 400. I always make sure my exposure metering is right on cam and I won't push it hard in the post too, but i often see a noise in there. I know I can fix it on post, but still it makes me feel really bad that why there is a NOISE in the photo...uffff!!!

  • @jpdj2715
    @jpdj2715 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My Z 7 seemed to give me random color noise in summer mid-day sun at 100 ISO. Turned out to be a raw processing artifact (a chaotic low-level Moiré). Didn't show up in Nikon NX Studio, nor in DxO PhotoLab 4. The Z 7 doesn't have a low-pass (or AA) filter and LR may still have problems with that after all these years since the D800E. When we judge files and color, we actually judge raw processing and its low-level profiles - default or camera-specific (firmware version ...).

A comparison would have been trying to capture the same images of the same thing...say like a bird flying by or otherwise challenging exposure situation and seeing which yielded the best results right out of the camera. I'm considering between these very same cameras right now and this video did absolutely nothing to help with that decision except inform me that the Canon is easier to use for a person who knows how to use a Nikon than a Nikon is to use for a person who uses a Canon and doesn't have siri, a manual or.
