I agree with you. The president gets a hefty salary to hide behind lies to protect the university. The campus police sounds like a bunch of people who just look out for their pay cheques and do little or nothing just like the president.
Obviously they don't take complaints seriously. Lauren should have been alive.
My heart goes out to the parents. Be strong.
P.S. get a good lawyer and sue them for any and everything you could get. It won't bring back Lauren but it will take your mind off your grief while fighting and should you need money to go for counseling then you will at least have some.

This whole thing police have going of "we can't do anything until a crime is committed" is so stupid. I mean the very POINT of calling you is to try to PREVENT a crime from being committed. If there is a history, a criminal record, or even just witnesses to harrasment...and there is REASONABLE POTENTIAL that a crime could be committed.... That should be enough for some type of arrest. Its craziness to tell someone ...we have to wait until he hurts or kills you...THEN we can do something 😨 That beautiful, successful young girl had her whole life ahead of her. Authorities told me I have to have a consistent record of harassment from my abuser before they can act on it.....
Even getting punched in the face and having a black I and having a black I didn't get their attention.
Finally on the 23rd incident he broke my arm, i had cracked ribs, blood coming out of my nose and ear, he knocked two teeth out of my mouth... two black eyes egg sized lumps all over my head and body....
    They finally arrested him.
    His sentence was
30 days in jail or community service.
Six months of anger management classes and the ankle monitor...
This happened about 20 years ago.
I'm having problems walking, it's hard for me to hold a pen, my vision is distorted and I can't hear out of my right ear...

How completely dishonorable this police force is. Campus security is their primary job and it should've taken ONE call to find out he was a danger to her. This family is so calm and polite they didn't even stress HOW SERIOUS, this issue was. I wish she would've said every time she called, this was a registered sex offender who has been stalking her and she's afraid he might kill her. It's sad because a lot of these "stalking" situations end up like that nowadays. People can't deal with their failures and harm others. These parents have my ultimate respect because they are still being kind hearted and showing respect even after they've been totally disrespected by all the agencie involved.

I can’t deny though part of the problem was that she as most women don’t stress urgency. She wasn’t conveying the gravity of the situation. Alison H I agree. I think we should be more aggressive when it’s our life on the line. However, I think as a human being, calling into an emergency service, I think we all expect our concerns to be treated with as much urgency as possible. People cope and respond to situations differently. Like at a funeral, some people may yell & cry, others may not cry and be silent. But again, I agree that it may have put a bit more fire under their ass if she said that this could turn into a kidnapping, murder. But, again, police don’t handle *possible* situations well🤦🏾‍♀️

She could have had a parent fly down and stay with her. Had her parents give her money for a hotel where nobody would know she was staying. She could have gone home for a few days. This family, and their daughter, had way to much trust in the system. You have to sometimes realize that systems are secondary to human instinct. Don't be afraid to leave campus, go home, go in person to the police. Never take someone's word for it if things aren't getting done. Don't let these systems make you passive. School can wait; put your life first.

  • @sweetbitz

Ruth Watkins, University President, should have been fired at first hearing of her statement and as soon as they found out that Lauren had talked to campus police. They all dropped the ball and should be held responsible for their actions, or more over their lack of actions! I am tired of people not being held responsible when they do not fulfill their jobs. They take the money but not the responsibility of the position they hold. You can’t have it both ways. If you take the wages....then you have to hold the requirements that are the job.
