    Great video. There are four reasons why I greatly prefer the 16” over the 14”: larger screen, larger trackpad, longer battery life, better speakers.

      Thermals are wayyy better though. I was going buy lg gram 16 but fancy editing a bit in 4k or Full HD. 16gb 16 MacBook or 32gb Lg gram wonder what's better for video editing etc

      Better thermals and better fan on the 16". The 16" barely has the fans to come on as supposed to the 14", especially under heavy load like video rendering or gaming. The fans just come on so often on the 14".

      Substantially less thermal throttling because of the larger chassis and larger fans as well. That’s a big one too

    the reasons why am sticking to my 16 inch are THE SPEAKERS AND THE BATTERY . the battery of the 16 inch is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD ! I top up the battery every morning , spend the entire day in office on battery and finish a day of work with 60-65% battery left ! That's insane !

    Absolutely! If you don’t need the portability of the 14, the 16” is a no brainer. Plus the fans are massive on the 16 which results in less fan noise, critical for recording audio.

    This video summed up exactly how I felt about the 14 vs 16. I went with the 16 because I wanted the laptop to actually be a laptop and it is a side to my main windows desktop. But I want the ability to edit on the laptop or just use it on the couch or just not be forced to sit at the desk. I can use my laptop laying down. But I can’t lay down and use my desktop lol. I was going to order the 512 gig and do the same thing as you with a 2tb nvme USB C external enclosure. But then I changed my mind and actually got the one terabyte because if I install a bunch of applications I know I will have at least 300 gigs free on the internal. Then if I record a lot on a weekend trip. I can just use that internal drive to hold 300 gigs of projects it’s enough.

      I want to get a MacBook Pro w/ M1 MAX 10/32 core chipset, 32Gb RAM, and 1Tb SSD.
      Plan on doing photography editing, videography editing when I get a motorcycle, and school work as well as my ground school lessons to get my pilots license.
      I am only 16, so getting a $3,099 + tax laptop is a BIG decision..
      My question is, if I edit videos that may be around 100Gb on average, then once my memory fills up, can I delete those video edits and just restart with let’s say a new months of work?

    Pretty much the reasons i was going instantly for the 16" (as well because of the sound), the 14" looked already in the shop like a bigger netbook and i hated since ever the thin speaker grills, the 15 and 16" models always looked (and sounded) better. But battery and screen size were the main reasons for 16".
    I even got away with the base model 16/512, with a Sabrent TB4 external drive its basically as fast as the internal SSD. I have mostly between 200-300GB free space on the internal SSD and this is enough for shorter videos as well, for bigger stuff i need the 2TB sabrent drive which is also handy with about 2500-2700MB/s.
    Also, since i have to share sometimes hundreds of GB astrophotography data with a windows Desktop to stack/process with my preffered program (Deep Sky Stacker, Windows exclusive) i have to rely anyways very much on external drives.

      im going to start my Computer Science bachelor after the summer and am trying to decide wether to get the 14" or the 16" model. For programming the 16" might be better because of the bigger screen size, so you can see more lines of code, I also like the bigger battery on the 16". The 14" is just easier to carry around. Still trying to make a decision....

    • @xiaoyu88
      @xiaoyu88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zakaria1656 TLDR; If you will be working mostly with bigger screens, get the 14" for mobility. Otherwise get the bigger screen.
      I know I have commented on something else here but I am a programmer for about 12 years with various experience in working on different laptop sizes. I'd say if you will only be working on the laptop, exclusively, then get the 16" model since it is more real estate and less "alt + tab" all the time which is really can get annoying for the work flow. you can see more lines of code if you of course choose a smaller font but for the long run its not so comfortable. I work with a 14" thinkpad and I only chose this one because at work I have two 24" monitors this laptop is connected to at the office.
      When I am at home and without any extrnal screens its okay to work on this one for the day, but if it was like this for the entirety of college it would get me crazy. Good luck bud

    The one thing I don't like about the 16" is actually funny enough the trackpad. Because of the large size I notice the palms of my hands are on the trackpad when I'm writing I wish they would make a 15" just to get the weight and size a bit down. But as usual for me what I really would want is never an option 😂. So the best compromise has to be the 14"

    I agree. Bought 16” last year, I travel a lot and work remote. My work flow at work needs 4 different chrome tabs open which means the change from 14 to 16 was a game changer. Also during the summer I travel a lot and also work and the 500 nit to 1000 mit difference made a lot of difference when working at the beach. Sometimes it does get annoying the lack of portability but there’s always a inverse relation between portability vs productivity. I think the best set up for me is just the mac with a case not cover or pouch, and no mouse or track pad

I have noticed that the 16" runs a tad bit warmer ( mid 40s C vs low 40s on the 14" ) and wondering if that is indeed normal. Been watching a lot of videos and reading on MR ( MacRumors ) and the general consensus appears to favor the 16" over the 14", especially in terms of operating temps!

    A month ago I commented about how you saved me. I always wondered if I made the wrong choice doing the 16. The M2 came out and I got a 14” yesterday on release and I fucked up…😂
    It’s going back and I’m going back to the 16” god damnit. I can deal with all the “worse” things on the 14 but no matter what the flow just isn’t there for the screen. It’s worth using a bigger heavier machine no matter the case unless you travel via plane a lot. No way around it just being straight up the best. I hate the weight, the size, and feel, the shape but my god it’s the best damn laptop on the market hands down and the king of the jungle. Honestly docked at my desk being used as an additional display the 14” can’t compete, on the table, on my lap on the couch, anywhere that I am the 16 is just so much better performing where it matters.
    I was using my 14” all day then watched a Netflix movie on my 16” and it kinda just solidified my thought. Though again the 16” is annoyingly large once you start using it you just can’t go back.. you just can’t.
    I will forget my love of the 14” size and feel and succumb to the 16” death and enjoy it everytime I remember how poor the screen real estate is on the 14 for workflow.

    The benefits of editing video on the internal SSD is unnoticeable over external SSDs, which is easily 10 to 50 times the playback speed of most 4K video. The bottleneck is processing power and RAM.

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว

      NO!
      Be aware, if you talk about fast (in long term when writing 50GB+ continous) SSDs and a TB3/4 SSD enclosure, YES!
      But i have also 2 slower USB 3.1 enclosures (m.2!) which throttle intentional to avoid overheating, they throttle to 60MB/s down after 30-40GB written (with 700-800MB/s)

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, what are you talking about? the processed prores 4-2-2 (HQ) data in the background are VERY space demanding, a 1GB video clip from my EOS R7 become within just a little color grading a 5-15GB project file!, so you have to write easily 5x and more data on the external SSD than your original videos size!
      As said... my cheaper m.2 enclosures and SSDs are pretty unusable above about 50GB (project size)... so at best a 5-10GB video is fast enough imported/ready for fast editing/export. Considering modern 4k60 files etc easily eats up 5-10 GB in minutes, well not every mediocre fast SSD or enclousure is fast enough.
      But you are right when you exclude a lot of cheaper SSDs and enclosures and see only TB3/4, especially the Sabrent drives/enclosures existence which are AWESOME (M1 Pro base model 512 GB "only" + 2TB sabrent drive is an amazing combo for sharing much data with other computers without paying too much apple premium)

    • @joyKafka
      @joyKafka ปีที่แล้ว

      Most 4K - 8K vidéos are 100 - 720 mbps, which max out at 90 MB/s. When editing there’s no speed/time difference whether the original files are on external disks or internal. Current SSD r/w at 550-2000 MB/s. CPU/GPU is the bottle neck. H.265 would save a lot of space.
      Newer SSD like Sandisk pro blade offers r/w 3000 MB/s with 16TB storage. Even editing 12 K footage whose data bit rate could be 1800 mbps or so, which is about 250 MB/s. The external SSDs are mostly an overkill.
      Importing to internal ssd is only a waste of time.

    • @joyKafka
      @joyKafka ปีที่แล้ว

      Let’s say you have a 50 second footage whose file size is 50 GB. And your internal SSD r/w 5000 MB/s, external SSD r/w 1000 MB/s. If SSD r/w speed matters, the rendering /export of the said footage should be about 1 second internally or 5 seconds externally. But if you try rendering off an internal SSD, it would take as much time as off an external SSD. The simplified conclusion is that when we could render a footage at 30X speed, that’s when we gain benefits processing footage on an internal SSD.

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joyKafka again: MANY (!!!) SSDs and enclosures throttle the speed dramatically as one of my SSDs which throttle down to 60MB/s (basically 2x as fast as USB 2.0!)
