Spawn mate…… I been out with the big gun camera today (fuji xt4) Pain in the assame getting it together (still learning the ropes!!!!) My mind is leading me your way and just use the iPhone 12
I've been using the OG 15" MaBook Pro Retina for nearly 10 years now and as my decade closes, I upgraded to the 14" M1 Max MacBook Pro. I've always been envious of the portability of the 13" MBP models of past years, but could never sacrifice the dedicated GPU in the larger model. The new 14" is almost exactly what I dreamed of in terms of fulfilling the desires of a more portable machine, while being as massively powerful as the larger model. In terms of screen real estate, it's super easy to choose a slightly smaller scaling setting in the MacOS display preferences to digitally make up for the reduced physical space and I think that provide enough utility for me to not feel like I'm missing anything by not going with the 16" model.
Agree, I went from a late 2013 MBP 15" to a 2021 14", even in base model it's so much better! Yes the display settings can certainly compensate for reduced real estate, very happy with the 14"
@@legjakabb The crazy thing is that my OG Retina is still alive and running and pretty much can still do anything. It's not as fast as a modern machine, but it still kicks.
The 15" retina was 2880 x 1800 pixels. The 14" is 3024 x 1964. You gain actual pixels. Last year's 16" macbook pro was 3072 x 1920 so you almost have the same resolution as the outgoing 16" macbook pro on the new 14" macbook pro
I love that your reviews are based on personal experiences - like what you said about the LG TV being the best TV you've ever owned - or how the bigger macbook and iphone screens suit your workflow better. I appreciate the fact that you don't make it about specs and geekbench scores but about your personal experience with the product

Watching this on the 14" Macbook Pro... This is my first ever MacBook and wow this device is beautiful and just amazing, and every time I book it up the screen blows me away each time
Great review mate as always! I wouldn't mind the 14" as its a great size, but the extra screen boosted power mode and longer battery life would draw me more to the 16"
@@Amine382 I think it is heavy and unwieldy for most people but you get used to it. I personally wouldn’t go for a smaller laptop. I like having a bigger canvas to work with and I’m happy to sacrifice weight for it

Love the screen size on the 16”, but ultimately went 14” for myself. I think either way, I wouldn’t have any regrets. And super impressed to know you shot this on your iPhone, great work!
Looking at your production with just an iPhone and how clean the reels and b-rolls, I'm surprised you don't get more subs. Great content, keep it up Chris!
I bought the 14" base model, but over the last couple of weeks of owning it can't help but to think that I should have gotten a bigger screen. It's an amazing laptop all-around, but the 16" seems like a better value all-around considering that even spec for spec it is still higher performing, stays cooler and the screen is just superb. Granted this is my primary editing screen as I don't like to rely on external displays
go for bigger screen if that ur desktop replacement. For people that own a desktop with multi screens like me, I prefer a 14" for portability and I mirror to my 27inch 4K screen anyway.
They should of added a USB port on the right. Keep the right side ports the same exact as the 2015. This would eliminate the need for any dongles or adapters completely.
I have been trying to decide which MacBook Pro to purchase and almost every single video is about creating videos which I do not do but your video is only the second one that I have actually been able to partially comprehend since I do not create videos. After watching this video I believe the MacBook Pro for me is the 14” MacBook Pro. Thank you for making this video and using simpler wording so someone at my level can get at least some idea of whether the specs of the M1 MacBook Pro are for me! Thank you, SpawnPoiint.
I still can’t decide but since I edit all day on my laptop I think I should do 16inch. I haven’t even been doing a lot of traveling lately so wish me luck lol
unless you have lots of money to spend I'd be careful with the specs. you don't necessarily need the M1 max or 32gb ram for good performance. if you're editing videos or photos I would take the 16 inch base model
Same, i had the 14" but sold it as i felt it was too cramped. That notch was the nail in the hammer, it was all i was looking at. Got the 16" and haven't looked back.
I went for the base 14" model with the 1tb storage upgrade. I think it was worth it, worth the money at least. I don't replace computers very often so this was a big deal for me as until last December my main computer was a 2012 mbp, and that was second hand when i bought it in 2015 so as you can imagine the change has been immense! This 2021 14" is smaller and lighter than the 2012 13" despite having a bigger screen. The only downsides are software issues, some older apps aren't supported on the later versions (Catalina and later) so the old mac still has a job to do. I enjoyed your video, thanks.
Great video mate! High quality as always! I just ordered a silver 16” last week and can’t wait for it. The decision was so hard but I’m mostly gonna have it in my home and the small boost in price was nothing since I hope that will keep me away from an external monitor and everything that comes with a desktop setup 😅
So the basic model will be more than capable for 4k editing? I edit on my 2020 iPad Pro and I’m looking to get into Final Cut Pro and feel I don’t need a maxed spec laptop. Would you agree?
I got the 14", but in System Preferences you can change the aspect ratio to make more items fit on the screen... I find that helps a lot to make the laptop screen more usable. Scaled --> More Space
The 16” comes with a couple of bonuses: the display is larger, you will get more of that beautiful mini led display, the bezels look slimmer due to the ratios, the notch looks smaller for the same reason. The 16” gets a larger trackpad which is more convenient to use and the speakers are better giving richer sound. As far as battery life the 16” gets three hours more in terms of web browsing, and also gets a more powerful 140 watt power supply.
I think the base 14" is the model to buy, maybe upgrade the storage if you need more, but if you're starting to spend more money upgrading the CPU/GPU, it's time to see if the $200 to make the jump to 16" will be worth it because having more storage or more screen will be far more noticeable than having two more CPU/GPU cores.
Thank you!!! I was thinking of getting the 13” old version, but I’m sold on the new 14”!!! Especially since it does have the new M1 chip that I’ve heard works so good!!!
The last Mac I had was the MacBook Air that came out in 2017.. Purchased it in 2019. I decided to treat myself to the MacBook M1 Pro 14in, I plan on using the computer for “light” gameplay footage editing, homework,TH-cam, everyday usage etc. The Mac book air I had was a 13.3 inch- and I would like something a tad bit bigger but not big like the 16inch. Although the 16inch screen is nice it’s not something that’s necessarily needed for what I plan on using it for. As for silver or space grey I can’t decide . But super excited to get an updated MacBook. Thanks for the great video!
Just purchased the 14", love the power of the new M1 Pro Chip, the beautiful display, and the very portable size. I'm sure the 16" would be easier to use, however, I can't deny the portability of the 14"!!!
The amazing thing about these new M1 Macbooks is even if you buy the lowest model one available, you're *still* looking at a device that can easily handle 4k video editing and *most* tasks that you throw at it. Thanks for the video! Coming from the 2017 15" MacBook Pro, the 14" M1 Pro was the way to go for me. I love the portability of the new machine compared to my old one. The only reason I went with the 15" in the past was for the dedicated graphics card, but that's a moot point now as the M1 Pro 16 core GPU destroys my old Radeon Pro 560.
Had the 14" but it felt super cramped. I thought maybe 16" but was concerned as everybody was complaining about it's weight. Bought the 16" have never looked back and it doesn't weigh much at all, definitely still a portable device by a mile.
the fully maxed-out 14” MacBook Pro doesn’t perform as well as the 16” due to thermal throttling. So, if you’re going for the 14”, choose it with the Pro chip, and if you need the performance of the Max chip, the 16” is the better choice.
I just got the 16GB 10core/16 core 1TB model and am BLOWN AWAY at its performance...when editing vids its crazy fast......like a totally different animal from the XPS 13 I came from......
Over the last 5 yesrs I’ve gone: MacBook 12” to MacBook Air 13 to MacBook Pro 15 to MacBook Pro 16 (with a MacBook Air M1 for travel).. and now yesterday just ordered the baseline MacBook Pro 14 aiming for that as the only machine going forward. I’m not doing video/photo editing, mainly ICT process-design, architecture and documentation.
I bought the 13" M1 MBP in 2020 but just recently upgraded to the base model 14" MBP. I had more than enough power with the M1 for my workflow which is just streaming, web browsing and school work so the M1 Pro is definitely overkill but I really wanted the ports and the mini-LED screen. So far I am loving the new 14" and it does everything I need my laptop to do and I feel like it is future proofed for at least the next 5-6 years.
Same here I have the air and I love it. It handles everything even video editing on davincci resolve with no problem. But I wanted bigger screen but no t to big. And more ports. This is the perfect size.
I choose the 14inch even though I like the bigger screen of the 16, to me the 14inch looks more premium looking, the 16inch looks less premium, that’s just my opinion
@@lambertj.2892no they don’t lol one looks cheap with a whole bunch of awkward space around it, huge trackpad and super bulky and the other one looks sleek with edge to edge keys leading it to look more crisp and sharp from open to close.
I went with the 14’ with an upgrade 10 core 16 ram. I dock it to a monitor. This was a mistake 🤔 while I love the portability. I have grown to never want to use a desktop dock set up . The better monitor, battery life and speakers I find myself never working in the studio. I grab the MacBook Pro and work on the patio, among family and friends, in the park etc. I would buy the 16’ and trash the dock and external monitor. This machine has changed the way I work.

Have you tried different resolutions with ScreenResX?
I got a 15 and want to upgrade. The 14 seem kinda small and the 16 seems kinda too big. Lol I can't decide! 14 seems like the best value but the view seem small when travelling! Help me decide!
I have the same issue coming from 15” 2016 MBP, I got the new 16 and feel its still portable but almost comical to take to a coffee shop, debating on returning. 14” seems cramped. Ugh decisions decisions
@@SpawnPoiint before I complete my order, I have a question… Even though I have Final Cut Pro, I rather use LumaFusion. Do you believe that the M2 Air would be able to serve the purpose of daily/weekly editing on LumaFusion or should I get the Pro?
Here as I’ve been using an iPad with a keyboard to try and get my business off the ground but because of the smaller screen size, lack of OS features I’m thinking of biting the bullet and just getting this
im def looking to get the 14inch because i dont need 16inches when im gonna use an external monitor plus travel alot with my laptop that would weight less and much more convenient for my lifestyle. great video (thumbs up)
Really great video. I am honestly split between sizes. 16 inch would be great but not great for traveling. 14 inch on the other hand is very close in price to the 16 inch, so why not go for the bigger screen, better cooling, better battery life and slightly better speakers?
I can compare you to MKBHD btw!! Tbh i subscribed to this channel because i really and honestly enjoy your reviews 💯 they’re so good and i like how you’ve grown since i found your channel😁
Looking at the macbook 14". But I am curious on what you recommend for a dock? Currently I have 3 USB devices I need to have plugged in plus my HDMI to my monitor.
I am in a bit of dilemma between the two: 14inch: M1 Pro 10/14/32ram 2TB M1 Max 10/24/32ram 1TB Keep thinking about the on board 2tb but hurts my soul to dish out 500 canadian dollars for a TB.
Great Review, thank you! I am pretty much decided on the 14", but do you know what the performance might be to dock it and link this up to one of those super wide 49" displays, like the Samsung G9 or an LG for example?
Great job man. Is the fan noise very noticeable on the 14 inch model? Because my work requires system virtualization so I can have up to 3 operating systems at the same time and I don't want to have the sound of an airplane when I'm working.
The diff in price between 14 and 16 inch is just 20 pounds. Can be less if you buy on ebay and get a good deal. I personally went for 14inch, 10/16c, 32gb, 1tb, grey
I want to buy a Mac, mainly because of Logic Pro (also for video editing), and I think the 14 inch Macbook Pro is the right option for me 👍👍 Great video, btw!
@@MusicalMaverick55 Hey Bryan. Did you get the 8 core or 10 core? If you got the 8 core then we will have the same specs. I’m also using Logic so good to hear you’re happy with it.
Great content as always!! I bought an LG monitor too and in part because you are loving yours! I am a bit stuck at the moment on what to get. I am running a 2015 15" Macbook pro as an audio recordist, video editor and creative. I love it and will probably keep it for the nostalgia. But it is proving to be way too loud when I am doing studio work and even right now the fans are screaming at me lol. So this is where I need help! Do I - Save up and grab a 14" maybe early next year? Or just grab a mac mini m1 16gb to replace to desktop setup and use the 15" as my portable. I need a laptop as my studio is in the garage and I do arrangements with my band from it. Also I think these new macbooks are perfect for I/O and I don't want to feel like I am sacrificing on that front. Again thanks for the content bro - especially great to see UK content
If I didn’t pick up an M1 At the start of the year I think I’d be grabbing a base spec 14” now. Even now I think I have more than enough power for my needs.

I am looking forward to the get the 14 inch with a 1TB and 16 Gigs of ram with 10 core. I will use it for business and photo editing.
Great choice too mate
@@SpawnPoiint thanks!
I was waiting for you to drop a video on the new M1 chips! Love it, great work as always
Thank you!
@@SpawnPoiint can’t wait to see what you drop next!
Had the 14" but it felt super cramped. I thought maybe 16" but was concerned as everybody was complaining about it's weight. Bought the 16" have never looked back and it doesn't weigh much at all, definitely still a portable device by a mile.
I was wondering, considering the basic specs, can you video editing with Final Cut Pro with this one? 🤔🤔
I'm getting the 14" base model. Those MacBooks are the best laptop in almost every aspect (apart from gaming)
Your videos are beyond incredible. I still love my M1 MacBook Pro 13" but damn that 14" is calling out my name!
Haha thanks mate
I’m holding on to my M1 13” as it’s still an amazing laptop
16” is my sweet spot. 14” was tempting. Don’t plan on traveling with it. And it wasn’t that much more.
Just looking for my next Mac so this was very useful, thank you.
I got the 8 core, 32 ram and 1 tb. I make music. Hope I made the right choice of ditching the 10 core processor? Scaryyy......
I like 14 inch one
the fully maxed-out 14” MacBook Pro doesn’t perform as well as the 16” due to thermal throttling. So, if you’re going for the 14”, choose it with the Pro chip, and if you need the performance of the Max chip, the 16” is the better choice.
Great video! The editing + your accent made it very easy and enjoyable to watch
Thanks for the support.
I just got the 16GB 10core/16 core 1TB model and am BLOWN AWAY at its performance...when editing vids its crazy fast......like a totally different animal from the XPS 13 I came from......
I Would Go For The 16-Inch MacBook.
I’m enjoying max settings on blizzard games on the base model 14”, doesn’t miss a beat and so capable; should be a great laptop for years
What games do you run?
finally picked up an M1 Pro 14in to replace my Pro I messed up last year and I love this thing
Is the CPU and GPU upgrade worth it?
What the use case?
I choose the 14inch even though I like the bigger screen of the 16, to me the 14inch looks more premium looking, the 16inch looks less premium, that’s just my opinion
they look exactly the same, except one is bigger. LOL.
@@lambertj.2892no they don’t lol one looks cheap with a whole bunch of awkward space around it, huge trackpad and super bulky and the other one looks sleek with edge to edge keys leading it to look more crisp and sharp from open to close.
I'm buying exactly this model.
Ordering my 14” this week!
Nice one. Enjoy.
@@SpawnPoiint before I complete my order, I have a question…
Even though I have Final Cut Pro, I rather use LumaFusion. Do you believe that the M2 Air would be able to serve the purpose of daily/weekly editing on LumaFusion or should I get the Pro?
Here as I’ve been using an iPad with a keyboard to try and get my business off the ground but because of the smaller screen size, lack of OS features I’m thinking of biting the bullet and just getting this
im def looking to get the 14inch because i dont need 16inches when im gonna use an external monitor plus travel alot with my laptop that would weight less and much more convenient for my lifestyle. great video (thumbs up)
Yes that makes sense too.
Really great video. I am honestly split between sizes. 16 inch would be great but not great for traveling. 14 inch on the other hand is very close in price to the 16 inch, so why not go for the bigger screen, better cooling, better battery life and slightly better speakers?
Though one mate. It's why I am using the 16" for myself now.
I have the same dilemma - portability vs. bigger screen
is that grey or silver? nice video!
Would the 16” M1 Pro be perfect for a college student just doing normal homework/class work? Im guessing it’s overly perfect for that stuff?
Nice review! I have chosen the 14'' inch and 16 RAM. I am happy to see that it can worth it and I can use it in programming tasks :)
I can compare you to MKBHD btw!! Tbh i subscribed to this channel because i really and honestly enjoy your reviews 💯 they’re so good and i like how you’ve grown since i found your channel😁
Thank you for the support!
Best comparison and review. I will go for 16inch.
Yes the 16 inch is 500 more, but you also get the better 10 core chip aswell
Notch. Why?
Fantastic mate
Thank you 🙏
I’ve ordered the 16”. Max. Just got to wait until August 🙃
Great choice too
Looking at the macbook 14". But I am curious on what you recommend for a dock? Currently I have 3 USB devices I need to have plugged in plus my HDMI to my monitor.
I am in a bit of dilemma between the two:
14inch:
M1 Pro 10/14/32ram 2TB
M1 Max 10/24/32ram 1TB
Keep thinking about the on board 2tb but hurts my soul to dish out 500 canadian dollars for a TB.
Great Review, thank you! I am pretty much decided on the 14", but do you know what the performance might be to dock it and link this up to one of those super wide 49" displays, like the Samsung G9 or an LG for example?
Great review! BTW, what is the clamshell stand you use for the 14' is it compatible with 16' as well?
Great job man. Is the fan noise very noticeable on the 14 inch model? Because my work requires system virtualization so I can have up to 3 operating systems at the same time and I don't want to have the sound of an airplane when I'm working.
The diff in price between 14 and 16 inch is just 20 pounds. Can be less if you buy on ebay and get a good deal. I personally went for 14inch, 10/16c, 32gb, 1tb, grey
I'm glad I subscribed. Your videos are always on point and clean. Keep soaring mate!
Thank you William, I appreciate that.
I want to buy a Mac, mainly because of Logic Pro (also for video editing), and I think the 14 inch Macbook Pro is the right option for me 👍👍 Great video, btw!
I got the 14 inch for portability and I use LP. As well! Got the 32 GB with 1 TB. Absolutely beast!!
But talking of portability and anything that 14" offer, would the Air M1 13.3" do the same for us at lighter weight and cheaper price ?
I like the 13 inches thickness for travel but the 14 inches is much better but thicker ugh! Thanks for the review .
I'd go for 14 because of portability tbh. Also what's the song you were playing during the speakers demo?
Came across this, really liked your review, subscribed!
Thank you 🙏
If I didn’t pick up an M1 At the start of the year I think I’d be grabbing a base spec 14” now. Even now I think I have more than enough power for my needs.
How's it for watching movies?
Quality wise it's awesome!
One comprimise for me is, I chose the 14 for portability, but then I connect to 27 inch 5K ultrafine when i want to enjoy more screen real estate
Really awesome review man!
Thank you mate
I still can’t decide if I like the thickness or not
