    Absolutely loved the travel log aspects you covered. In the old days I was an airline employee. We went all over the world watching Motorsport. More often than not, we went back to the hotel on Sunday to watch the main event on TV. Better coverage. For anyone reading this that has not been to a Grand Prix, you HAVE to go at least once. I was spoiled because you used to be able to go anywhere around the course and get paddock passes and actually talk to drivers and teams. We had a trick we used. We took hundreds of pictures and brought them to following races. These included the pit crews and mechanics. We would find one of those guys and give them the photo. No one pays attention to those guys. They would go and get the driver to meet us! Anyway, I can ramble forever. Great job Lottie. Loved seeing you narrate as well.

      @@LottieTalksF1 my all time favorite was Niki Lauda. I met so many, but one favorite was Jean-Pierre Jabouille, who invited us into the VIP area as his guests in Spain and again when he drove LeMans. I was very fortunate then but now I am old and beat up with only these memories. I have a lot of stories. I’ll tease with one last thing. Whittington brothers. Thanks Lottie!

    I grew up at Silverstone race circuit. My grandfather was the Stowe commentator at the Grand Prix for most of the 70s and 80s. My father has also commentated at the Grand Prix, and I often do race commentaries at the home of British motor racing. It has changed alot over the years, I remember well the old infield part of the circuit, with the fabulous Bridge corner being one of my favourites. It's great to see you enjoyed your trip to Silverstone and I wish you all the best.

    I forgot an hour is a long drive for England lol, I was expecting you to say it was a long trek but then I remembered my state of Texas is several times bigger so for us an hour is no problem at all, the last US GP it took me 2.5 hours from Houston to Austin, so it could be a lot worse! An hour long scenic drive sounds very pleasant tbh

    When I saw the length of this video, I thought, "Really? 22 minutes talking about a trip to Silverstone? Is that going to hold my interest?" To my surprise, it did. It was a nice little travelogue with details that we don't get to know about if you never visit races. Plus, you are smiley and enthusiastic, which is engaging.
    It is rare to meet women with an interest in F1 and as rare as hen's teeth to meet one with the depth of knowledge on drivers, teams and technical aspects as you have. Perhaps you could do a 'My story' video and tell us how you became a fan of F1 and what appeals to you about it and why. People like videos like that. It might help your channel. :-)

      Thanks David! You'd be surprised of how much I had to cut down just to make it 22 minutes, but I wanted it to be a guide for anyone thinking of attending the GP in the future. I'd be up for doing a more personal video on how I got into the sport, so thanks for the suggestion :)

    I have to agree with you on the atmosphere at a race track. I haven’t been to an F1 race, but I have been to The Bend to watch Supercars twice, and it was awesome. The thunder of 25 V8 engines revving up on the grid, and the roar as they all charge down to turn 1 for the first time, it just doesn’t carry over on television. I remember the first time we went, the guy standing next to us waited for Simona de Silvestro every single lap to cheer her on, saying stuff like “C’mon Simona, get into ‘em!” The second year we attended the race, there was a big crash on lap one, and the noise the crowd made… it’s a totally different experience to the TV. It’s not something I would do every time, but definitely something I would do again. I want to get to an Australian GP when they stop canceling them. We decided not to get 2020 tickets, which turned out to be a great decision in the end.

    • @LottieTalksF1
      @LottieTalksF1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everyone I know who has been to the Australian GP has said how much they love it! Definitely would love to go if it remains the opening race.

    • @McPlayer8t
      @McPlayer8t 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think it’s already in doubt for 2022 unfortunately, F1 seems to be a Eurasian championship at the moment, but maybe one day…
      The owners of The Bend race track have expressed their interest in holding the Australian GP if Melbourne can’t, however The Bend is currently only a grade 2 circuit, and they will need the funding to upgrade it first, though it is already one of the best permanent facilities in Australia, so I can’t imagine it’s too far off the mark, it might be a good candidate in the future.

  • @nascarnational
    @nascarnational 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The experience coming to and being at the track sounds a lot similar to others I've had at other motorsports events here in the states, obviously a big difference being the ridiculously high prices to attend. Now from what it sounds like, just to go to a normal F1 GP on a Sunday is astronomically different in terms of costs compared to the NASCAR Cup races I go to. Idk how much you had to pay to go on a single day but with with you noting the jarringly high ticket prices I wouldn't be surprised if it costed and arm and a leg to do just that.
    Overall it definitely looks like you had a ton of fun despite the beating your wallet must've taken. The atmosphere looked incredible, I'm pretty sure many lost their voices getting caught up in the chaos that happened during the grand prix. I'm absolutely jealous of you that you're able to go to these things. Austin is several hundred miles to the east of me and seeing how high demand is for the USGP I wouldn't be surprised if the race is sold out months in advance. I entered in a contest to win free tickets to it a few months back but I'd like to think that ended without my notice.
    This was definitely a good watch. Loved the detail you gave when describing the overall experience, makes me want to go to Silverstone tbh. Thought you looked great as well. Thanks for answering my question too, I really appreciate it. I'm definitely looking forward to what's coming in the future. What videos are in the making is a complete mystery but I hope they're really good. Have a nice afternoon!

    I have a few main issues with the W Series. While it is a great idea in theory, there are a few issues in practice. Mainly, they only have 8 races in the year, not rounds, RACES. That’s only 4 hours of racing experience per driver if they have no DNFs, or up to 12 hours if you include every minute of practice and qualifying, that’s nothing. My second issue is if you look at where last year’s winner is now, still in the W Series, so what did it actually achieve?Surely Chadwick should have moved up to F3. I guess this one can slide once given it was the first year and then COVID happened. Finally, and this is a more minor point, but some of the drivers like Alice Powell are… well, it’s getting a bit late to still be three or four years away from F1, but I guess they are good drivers to learn from. I hope they can increase the prize money and add a few more races to each round in the future, track time is everything.

    Thank you Lottie for your recap. I plan to see the F1 race in the next few years. Your tidbit about the movie Emma is especially helpful because my wife & daughter are huge fans of the movie. I can sell them on visiting the town while I spend the day at the racetrack. Also it was good information on the W Series race. I was not aware that the race was on the calendar for that day. Good tip on where to sit for the race. I’m am very interested in the fan zone so sitting close to it is a plus.
    I live in Northern California, US and my main concern is getting from my accommodation to the track. I know you drove but I wonder how the public transportation is to & from the track. Is there a good alternative to renting a car & driving? I’d rather not drive.

      You must go it is wonderful! And yay - I'm glad it wasn't a wasted fact, I'm a huge Jane Austen fan so I had to make the trip!! So with Silverstone, if you come into Birmingham Airport you can get off the plane and take the shuttle directly from the terminal to the rail station at Birmingham International - takes around five minutes, and then get the train to Northampton. From there you can take the number 88 bus to Silverstone village centre, or get a taxi for about £25 to £30.
