We got attacked by xQc 3 separate times and scrambled to rebuild with our allies. We had alliances with Hollow Knight, Zelda, a spanish streamer, even Argentina and Chile! This was a great experience for a lot of us.
As a Chilean, there were some fellows who wanted to expand over the samus pixelart to the right, but we always voted against it in our discord, cause we respect Samus.
Being in the discords as xqc's void went on was crazy, it was like an actual War as different communities came together to hold the borders and rebuild one another
Yeah, I was about to go to sleep when I got a dm on discord that said "fuck, the flag, defend" with a picture of the void on the flag. Everyone started panicking and fighting to maintain our flag. It was actually kind of amazing how fast it got fought off
Ok but like, seeing smaller communities on r/place hold up their spot made me really happy, especially if they were so close to where active war was happening. Half the time the void was spreading to Osu I could see r/Omori in the bottom. The fact that it was visible for that long and persistent made me happy
Charlie still doesn’t seem to realize how much persuasion he has. He didn’t think he could take a spot at all and ended up taking a huge chunk in real time.
Made me happy to see that even in the warzone that r/place is, people left the memorials alone. Nobody tried to touch the Etika, totalbiscuit, AVICII or Berserk memorials, and the K-pop stans have been fighting tooth and nail to keep the MF DOOM one free of any graffiti. It’s really nice to see. Edit: Thank you, replies. I genuinely had no idea there were more on there, they must’ve slipped by me. It’s sweet to see so many communities coming together for things like these. Genuine respect to those making and protecting the memorials.
I have to respect those who hide small among us crewmembers in other people's art. I've seen some in Marianne's hair, the Eiffel tower, the little prince's planet and the reflection of the bottle of wine in the French section, and I'm pretty sure they hadn't been spotted for a while. I don't even feel like removing them.
Its super entertaining lol. Small and subtle sussy bakas XD The only one I wish they would leave alone is the ATLA mural. Its a tribute to Mako, the original voice of Iroh, so it seems disrespectful to mess with. However, anything else with large swaths of color I fucking love seeing the tiny crewmates in. They even put one in the moon of the tiny starry night piece XD
My favorite is the Magic the Gathering cardback, every single one of the dots representing mana colors is actually a tiny amogus of the corresponding color
It's really interesting having gone through this as one of the few representatives in a tiny community. I expected to draw a little character and then move on, but the real challenge started once the art was done. Protecting that thing was so much more involved than I would have expected. Another group twice our size came in and accidentally let slip to one of our allies that they planned to cover over a fairly sizable chunk of land after they had been shifted by one of the flag subreddits. Within minutes we were calling up every related community we could to try and find someone who wanted the spot next to us in order to make the expansion impossible, and what we came out with looked brilliant. Then we heard from one of our alliances "oh no, xqc is online destroying random small communities" which certainly did not feel good knowing everyone getting hit nearby also went through all of that to keep their places on the board. It's all fun in retrospect though.
I relate a lot with your post. We were one of those small communities that got nuked by xqc. Without our allies we wouldn't have made it. It was a great experience!
People are using r/place like an actual war zone to capture as much territory as possible at all costs.. What am I doing with it? Every hour or so I go on my phone and place a green dot under Destiny’s nose.
Poland tried invading Turkey multiple times, they not only stopped them from doing so but then ominously wrote "DON'T" on the Polish flag before restoring it back.
turkey wasnt even botted, we just had so many streamers keeping their chats on watch on the multiple areas we had. people literally stood watch over by renting out overnight spots in internet cafes for some reason. turkish ppl are just very patriotic when it comes to their symbolism (like the burdurland symbol, tea glass, atatürk, barış manço portrait that ludwig thought was esfand, some actual art pieces, a shitty anıtkabir, one ugly ass ottoman sultan, and many more)
Yeah, after playing GeoGuessr, I could tell that Turkey is super patriotic since America and Turkey are the easiest places to guess since you see their flag on every other building.

I actually think r/place is one of the most interesting things to come out of the internet so far. This one; and the 2017 one, it's an art piece made by tons of people (and bots) but w/e those bots are made by people also. The battles being fought, the alliances, people putting things in to support noble causes, people trying to ruin things and people fighting back against that. At the end it holds many memories even the scuff and the half ruined things are all a part of it, literally a living mosaic made by a huge number of people that tells many many stories.

There was a negotiation breakdown between r/MassEffect and r/Italy over the requisite airspace for the Normandy under their N7 logo. When Italy refused to accommodate the Normandy, Mass Effect started to black out everything downwind in their path, risking their N7 logo and everything with all the manpower being diverted to black tiling. It was pretty much a suicide run. They strategically attacked Italy's forces due to the difference in time zones (Italy was tucking themselves in for the night). They finally relented after ME took over half their space back and opened talks to establish a peaceful resolution. Italy had to stop its advance and Mass Effect was allowed to use the territory they stole back to refit the ship. It's the most awesome, nerdiest shit I ever experienced.
The german community also had a massive following to defend the whole german flag stripe and even made an alliance with france and belgium. at first it was "war" with france but then they decided to put the EU flag where the national Flags crossed :)

I thought they were botting but then i saw a picture of their discord server and they have more than 1k people in one channel just dedicated to patching up the logo.
It's actually really disappointing that so many people are botting. The whole point of r/place is to have communities come together and create a collage of pixel art. But it kind of defeats the purpose of this whole thing when 10 people can write a script to automatically have a hundred bots do it for them. It seems like only small and streamer communities are participating in good faith.
@@sIacktivist 3. They banned regular users who tried to overtake their pixels 4. They’re also actively deleting comments that criticize them or point out their shitty behavior from the past (like banning most 2-4u subreddits for no reason)
As I understand you need an email in order to place a pixel? If it's that easy for coders to work around that, can't r/place come up with something else or would literally any other option inevitably become part of the script to?
Tons of people are throwing around the word botting, but I’ve hardly seen much evidence for it. There are things in place that would make it time consuming to set up any significant number of bots.
That first turkey flag was so beautiful plus it wasn't made by bots but a community of literally over 100k patriotic turks, I'm mad it got messed up and only got more simplistic with time

the next election, they should just force everyone who wants to vote to place an individual pixel making up the picture of their candidate and whoever gets the picture done first just wins the fucking presidency
My brother actively took part in this madness and I can say it here, most of those plots were not bots. They all had their own individual discords and then separate discords with their alliances. They would plan their next moves and designs and then go from there, pure carnage.
As a Colts fan, I was shocked to see us overtaken. Then watching xQc's stream I heard Charlie say that was him who took over. As it turned out, the spot above we grabbed is much better. So it was really a win-win.
The “Colts!!!” Has been under constant trolling. It would almost be easier to abandon that small spot and keep the logo and IND perfect. But I’ll keep defending until r/Place closes
My time at r/place has been a very interesting experience. When I first started, I wasn’t quite sure where to start. I eventually decided to settle on a small Kermit the frog face on the Ukrainian flag. Unfortunately, the void ended up in that area, and while Kermit was able to hold out for a while, eventually it was consumed by the void and replaced by some other art. Ever since then, I’ve dedicated my pixels to restoring art that has been affected by the void. Despite the loss of Kermit, r/place has been a very fun experience! It’s amazing how creative people are!
Worth noting it was 4Chan trying to start shit by expanding the trans flag into America and UK's flags so they retaliated. Someone found out early on and let everyone know so they teamed up, but 4chan focused on wiping out the American flag instead and trying to turn big ben into a penis lol

They mean because they keep getting in real life threats, death threats and treating it like politics and hate speech. That's what they mean by taking it so seriously. But part of the game is to grief and rebuild and that game is played by everyone
I feel like it's kind of like kicking a kid's sand castle. It's a public beach and it's just sand, so you are free to destroy it. But if you do it, it's also fair and expected for people to think that you are an asshole for it lol. (Kinda)
@@a_bear sure, but one is a kids activity of fun the other is a public canvas MADE to be drawn in publicly and for art to be destroyed and rebuilt and defended. That's the whole concept. I have a feeling that it is more of a silent peace treaty over it to not touch it or fix it when it’s messed with. I think it’s due to how Charlie behaved as a streamer. He was happy with the size and was just enjoying it. Compare him to XQC. XQC attacked all plots after he found out his (I think it was Quebec) flag was destroyed. He also took a very large plot for his logo. People weren’t happy so they protected every small area and voided his logo.
Sucks that the bronies, who were allied with the Beserk community, got destroyed when asmongold hijacked Beserk. Not only did the bronies originally help Beserk with the memorial, but 100% Asmongold wouldn't have given a shit about Beserk unless he just wanted to destroy bronies. And then when the bronies wanted their space back they were "attacking." I'm legit not a brony, haven't watched an episode, but that sucked.
part of the sob rock community that was right near XQC’s push in this video- was insane to see the push against them, and how much his viewers could destroy in a matter of seconds
There was no winning or losing, the whole reason XQC does the void is to open new space for other people or for the initial people to rebuild their art even better as he knows there is no way/point in trying to make it last! If he wanted a specific space he typically just overruns it and then puts up something.
It's a shame the admins were caught abusing their power by disabling the cooldown timers for themselves. Cheating in a game like this is sad and ruins it for everyone else.

Yeah the colts took the messy no-man's land left and above the moist icon. Good balance.

This was an awesome war to see. Thanks to the people who respected the memorials in this art such as the Etika, totalbiscuit and Berserk memorials.
And then when the bronies wanted their space back they were "attacking."
I'm legit not a brony, haven't watched an episode, but that sucked.
Everyone vs XQC was intense. We literally pushed back an entire void and won.
The french vs literally everyone was amazing
part of the sob rock community that was right near XQC’s push in this video- was insane to see the push against them, and how much his viewers could destroy in a matter of seconds
ofc with bots lmao
There was no winning or losing, the whole reason XQC does the void is to open new space for other people or for the initial people to rebuild their art even better as he knows there is no way/point in trying to make it last! If he wanted a specific space he typically just overruns it and then puts up something.

This is really fun to hop into randomly and help out communities. I’ve been helping with the Nagitos and a few album covers. Very fun and enjoyable

yoo I've been helping with the Nagitos too. Glad to see that they have more than one on there
I want to help to. How do I help with making the art?
It's a shame the admins were caught abusing their power by disabling the cooldown timers for themselves. Cheating in a game like this is sad and ruins it for everyone else.
@@crazisaturn2274 you have to make a reddit account and then you can go on r/place to place one tile
I've been taking part in r/place since day 1 (of this year, I wasn't on Reddit when it was done in 2017) and I've been helping r/196 and r/celestegame with their projects and it's so fucking cool to see all this. To zoom out and see this gigantic canvas and point to part of it and think "I helped with that" is just a great feeling. I hope this becomes a regular thing every April 1st.
Is 196 literally jus designed to temporarily trap anyone who gets curious about it?
I’ve been helping out r/OMORI, which is right next to Celeste. Your guys’ artwork is great! Glad to see so many pixel RPG fandoms grouping together in the map.
Hollow knight contributor here, you guys are awesome.
Turkey actually wasn't botted a Turkish streamer named Elraenn that has like 100k-150k viewers told everyone to defend Turkey
I was so convinced xqc was gonna overrun the canadian flag and put down the Québec flag. The war would be unreal
Wouldn't be that hard considering the canadians cant even draw a leaf
