By the time I saw Hide and Seek, I had seen so many twist endings that I could spot the ending coming a mile away. I love a good twist, but it sucks being able to guess the ending long before you even reach the halfway point of a movie. At first, it's fun, because you guessed right, but after a while, you start to want to be wrong just to preserve the surprise. Unfortunately, for a twist to get me anymore, it has to be something completely random that is unguessable, and that's no fun either because it feels like the filmmakers are cheating. A good example of this would be the first Friday the 13th. The ending literally cones out of nowhere. I like that movie because I grew up with it, but were it to be released today, I'd just feel like I got ripped off.
i think it was so much better to have been a child watching this the first time, this was one of my first with a twist. i remember really liking this as a kid. it got me so into the horror genre its almost all i watch now. as for the ending and the twist, i was like HELL YEAH! for me i really did not give much thought to the picture, now looking back i wonder if that US ending was actually trying to throw us off like maybe crazy runs in the family? or if its supposed to be more meaningful like her old life is the added head and now she is starting new, but she still holds on to those memories? idk, 2000's horror movies always tried to pull stuff like that

So true. I was able to guess it relatively early but I am a 30 year woman watching a 20 year old movie. 😂 The other movies I watched made this one predictable
@bluz1864 there are plenty of good ones, but you can't really suggest them after talking about the subject because the reveal is 90% of the effect for the movie.
God bless you man. Your narration and your overall explanation of the film is absolutely incredible. Definitely gotta watch this movie. Kudos to a job well done!!

Yoooo. This video unlocked a memory for me. I remember watching this, but as life goes. I completely forgot about it. It's such a classic film! You, sir, earned my sub.
I can see that, and it seems to be a lot of the reviews for the film. But after making this video I ended up liking the movie even more since I got to see just how good Dakota did throughout the movie. But yeah the alternate endings were the main reason I made the video, good follow up to 1408.
I Found that I have to switch between the videos youtube wants, the videos my audience wants, and the videos I want to make to keep it all going. This one was one I wanted to make. 😅 The next one though I think will fall under all three since it's on The Thing.
I just watched the movie. It popped on my Hulu. Watched the trailer and was hooked (DeNiro and Fanning) = no brainer. Didn’t know the twist. I was pleased with the movie but once the twist was revealed and I thought back on what I watched some of it didn’t make sense (like the Red Harrings). Your point of view of “Charlie” interacting with the other characters made sense though. Thanks for the content.
I remember seeing this movie as a teen, and hating it. Mostly because I caught on pretty quickly that it wasn't a hunting, but a split personality disorder person being the murder. The dad not remembering things, shots of him being at different places, him and Charlie never being in the same place or Charlie not having a form when he is running. As well as the daughter unable to explain WHO he is. Then there is Charlie knowing HE/them killed the wife, and so much more. I mostly hated it cause this is such a horrible way to do horror. I also hated that during this time actors just whispered when they talked in movies, which made it where it felt like they acted high, then like normal people who show emotions, but then the music will blast full force to startle you. It was so annoying. Since I do not remember a lot I do remember the ending of the little girl developing a split personality disorder with the drawing, and was like, "OH COME ON!" and never watched it again. BUT I swear to god that this was the best find. Cause I have been wondering what this movie was for years, but couldn't remember the actors to save my life. So thank you for covering the movie, even if I still do not like it I thank you for covering it and sharing that this movie has different endings. I oddly remember the mirror ending of her playing hide and seek, cause I think it was shown on a tv channel? But the happy ending, hospital twist ending, and the best ending all new to me. But I like the hospital ending with out the mirror set up. I mean girl lived with her father who murdered her mom, and was trapped in that horrible situation until her therapist helped, and is still helping her. Like the fact they end it with, yes sadness, but hopefulness the girl gets help she needs feels perfect to me. Because in a lot of these horror movies therapy just never is a option or shown in a good light, which I think makes it better to me.
I've watched your theory videos like five times each they're so good excited for whatever you put out next. I listen to your the thing / shutter island vufrid every night at work practically I never get sick of them lol

This was and still is one of my favorite scary movies. I used to own the DVD but don't know what happened to it anymore, I can't find it anywhere. Nor can i find this movie online anywhere, which makes me really sad! It's such a good movie! I think I remember the asylum ending, the first asylum ending, mind you, as the one I grew up with, although I've seen them all. I kinda like the mixed one though, I feel like that is the best ending. I really wish more movies had these different endings, but no one knows that there even ARE different endings until we all start talking about them; I feel like that would just be a really fun way to create engagement and hype for new movies.
I agree that the last alternate ending should have been the ending... it makes so much sense to me that this is what would happen... if it was not happening throughout her young life.
idc idc idc I LOVE THIS MOVIE, i am biased in a way because it was my first DID ending movie, ive only seen the drawing with two heads ending but from what you described i think my favorite would be at catherines home, lights out, counting, look at reflection
Some kids are just creepy by the way they behave as adults. No screaming, no running, complex conversations and full emotional control. Nothing is creepiest than a kid that behaves like an adult, double if on weird adult mode. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yea I was like that. It’s almost always caused by severe abusive trauma as in being raised in a nightmare type household. It’s cute I guess but truly in reality it’s really now whatsoever. All children should have their damn childhood….I had to grow TF and fast by 6ish probably earlier. My last truly happy memory where I felt “safe” was at 4.
"I met him in the woods. He doesn't want me to talk about him." Red flag. Luminous, flashing neon, red flag. "Show me where you met him." _Racks shotgun_
Hell yeah, you don't mess around w/that kind stuff as a parent. Like when a random guy offered me candy & I ran & told my mother who came back to find him. The look on her face alone made him turn instantly white "What the hell do you think you're doing offering my daughter candy? Who the HELL are YOU, you don't live here!?! & if I EVER EVER see you ANYWHERE near my daughter or ANY other kid ever again, that'll be the last time you see the light of day!" GO MOM! Also pretty sure she knew something my 4yro self didn't, but it worked, he literally ran away saying "sorry" over & over, & was never seen again. ....hmmm wait a min, or maybe he was just seen by my mother again???? Mooom, what year was it that you decided to expand the garden???!!!?!?!!
I have a complicated experience with this movie. It was the first mature horror movie I ever saw. My friends had told me the entire story. All the suprises and all the spoilers. Then when er all watched the movie I was scared even if I knew everything that was going to happen. I was so scared that I could sleep the entire night and was afraid to wake up in the night and see the clock at 2:06. At the time I thought the split personality was a really creepy concept. When I grew up and became more intrested in horror movies I looked back on this movie. I realized that the twist didn’t work. The story is that the girl gets an imaginary friend and a bunch of wierd and dangerous happends that make the dad suspect that the imaginary friends is real. In the end it is revealed that it is the dad who has developed a split personality and is responable for everything. It feels like a cheap cop out. There are clues in the movie but no explanation to how he could develope an evil personality just like that. If it was set up better like he have struggled with mental health issues for years and now he snapped. But for what it is it feels like the filmmakers don’t take mental health issues seriously. I have to agree that the final ending feels like the best and it takes these issues more seriously.

I like that movie because I grew up with it, but were it to be released today, I'd just feel like I got ripped off.
i think it was so much better to have been a child watching this the first time, this was one of my first with a twist. i remember really liking this as a kid. it got me so into the horror genre its almost all i watch now. as for the ending and the twist, i was like HELL YEAH! for me i really did not give much thought to the picture, now looking back i wonder if that US ending was actually trying to throw us off like maybe crazy runs in the family? or if its supposed to be more meaningful like her old life is the added head and now she is starting new, but she still holds on to those memories? idk, 2000's horror movies always tried to pull stuff like that
THIS WAS FANNNNNTASTIC !!!😲👍 You are soooo good. I'm always so excited when I see you've posted !! 👍💯 Fabulous breakdown & analysis. I actually stopped this vid after about 5 mins to go & watch it because you we're making it sound so good, and then came back to watch . Thanks again, GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS !
The 00s were filled with DID themed horror movies 😂
I'm surprised David didn't bring up needing to be part of the Circle of Trust when the neighbor came over, amiright?
This response is golden! LOL!
God bless you man. Your narration and your overall explanation of the film is absolutely incredible. Definitely gotta watch this movie. Kudos to a job well done!!
One of my favourite film review quotes was for this when it was released " De niro continues to tread dogshit through the carpet of his career.".
😂 the reviews even to this day aren't the best. But Dakota Fanning does so good in this... I think nostalgia also has me in its grip. 😂😅
@@PolterGibbst it was after a long ol' procession of bad choices from Bobby D so I think everyone saw blood in the water 😂
@@PolterGibbstyeah I hold alot of nostalgia for Dakota.
Recommendation for an underrated horror/thriller. The house that Jack built. It's a great movie, but people misunderstand it like they did the movie Possum. Heads up, though, not for the faint of heart.
It's been on my watchlist for a while since Possum. But I figured I will have to watch it when everyone else is asleep.
@@PolterGibbstdefinitely. It is not family friendly. But you may laugh at the ending.
@@direwoulf1663 well then now I'm even more curious. I'll have to move it up the list quite a bit.
I was very young when I watched this movie, but I remember yelling "aw come on" and really hating the Charlie reveal, but I had just seen Angel Heart, so that ending ... 😅
I have had Angel Heart on my watchlist for a while now but still haven't found it anywhere.
I swear I saw an ending like the first two but when it zooms into the drawing she's drawn HERSELF with two heads.
I forgot about this movie, good breakdown that ending with the mirror is definitely eerie
"And he talks to Catherine... the psychologist"
In My Wildest Dreams-"Ummm No Sir, that's Doctor Jean Grey. lol, idk what she's doing here, but we'll find out😂😂😂
Im so glad i found your channel. Your videos breaking down movies are top-notch. I feel like your channel is going to explode in growth in the future
Cool movie concept, I feel like the early 2000s had so many fun horror movie concepts that get overlooked now.
Please make more of these long horror vids. I just recently found u and I'm enjoying these. Keep them coming. I've subscribed. some of these I've never seen but u do a good job going back and forth between explaining and showing us the movie.
Working on what will most likely be my longest video yet now, breaking down The Thing and everything about it.
Also thank you. I like the long videos too and should be able to do more now that I've upgraded my PC.
@@PolterGibbst I just watched solitary. I remember that show too. Can u continue that as well? Shutter island blew my mind. I hope good things for your TH-cam channel.
i vaguely remember this, but had no idea of the multiple endings. The one i saw was second to last... and de niros character blew my mind
I'd say you got the better twist ending than what I remembered. The drawing ending is okay but I like the mental ward one with the window in the door. Good stuff
Never saw it before. Watched it so I could watch this clip. Which ending? Yeah, the last - or the one they chose is more subtle. BTW the cat was there in the car and in the cupboard and sitting next to the fire. 😺
😂 when I watched it back during the edit I looked so hard for that cat. Very easy to miss, well it was for me even after watching the movie 3 times in a row so I could make this video.
But hey, thats why I've got y'all. Always end up missing something or need help putting the pieces all the way together.
I have been watching your videos for a while, cant believe your not over a million yet. Wish you all the best and growth for your channel.
😂 if I had a million I would put out videos a lot more often. Hopefully by the end of the year though the channel will be doing well enough for me to post atleast every other week.
But gaining over 25k subs this year alone has me super excited for the future. Glad to have you along for the journey.
@@PolterGibbst Your videos are amazing, so I hope that too ☺️🫶
Yoooo. This video unlocked a memory for me. I remember watching this, but as life goes. I completely forgot about it. It's such a classic film! You, sir, earned my sub.
I loved the ending, but god, it was such a slow burn almost didn't make it through
I was disappointed by this film. I figured it out halfway through. But getting to see the multiple endings are cool
I can see that, and it seems to be a lot of the reviews for the film. But after making this video I ended up liking the movie even more since I got to see just how good Dakota did throughout the movie.
But yeah the alternate endings were the main reason I made the video, good follow up to 1408.
"This movie has 5 endings."
Yeah. I like to have a different movie ending for every business day of the week.
I need to go watch this again.
Thank you for the AWESOME review !!!
The fishing scene, was Ringo Star’s best acting performance.
That ad transition was *chefs kiss*
Expertly done and seamless
Right! Didn’t see it coming 😂😂
Glad I found this channel. Another great time had.
I'm glad you found it too.
Im actually rewatching your video with the endings in mind. Great work.
I wish niche movies still had pull on youtube 😢 keep it up man, this video was killer
I Found that I have to switch between the videos youtube wants, the videos my audience wants, and the videos I want to make to keep it all going.
This one was one I wanted to make. 😅
The next one though I think will fall under all three since it's on The Thing.
@@PolterGibbst That's awesome! I'm 3 vids into a binge of you, so I'll be waiting excitedly!!!
When you first said people were acting off, i thought "oh. must be paranormal" the second mention of it i instantly went "nevermind. he's just crazy"
Ok, you made me watch another scary movie! I don’t even remember this movie but I had to watch it before I watched your video! I loved them both!😊
The Sheriff is played by Dylan Baker, who is one of the greatest character actors in the game
Dont know why youtube recommended ur channel to me, but im so glad it did. This is totally my sort of thing, currently binging ur vids. Keep up the good work 👏 subbed
The Game 1997 was a great movie which no one talks about
Love The Game. And you're right, never hear anyone talk about it... maybe that means I should at some point.
really engaging retelling bro. I was on the edge on my seat too lol
Thank you 😂
Really liking these vids, you should do Jim Carrey's Number 23
But why, oh why, if they put a cat in a film, you know it's going to get unalived?
Can no screen writer change this up?
I Know! That cat was just chilling not bothering anyone or getting in the way and they still took it out.
how many times has polts said why oh why
i feel like he has said those words alot
@@thesadghostdude Does he? I am a new subscriber and have only seen his Shutter Island overview and this one. I do plan to watch all his others though🙂
All right, dude... So, only seeing the title of this video, and not wanting to spoil your video, I went and hunted up the movie _Hide and Seek_ and saw the most recent one was from 2021, so I watched that. Then I started to watch your video and lo and behold, I forgot all about the 2005 version with DeNiro... which it had been so long since I saw it (way back in '05) that I had forgot all of it and watching it was a fresh experience for me. (Now I can watch your video, but now YOU have to watch the 2021 _Hide and Seek_ with guest star Joe Pantoliano and give me your thoughts on it so we can discuss!!!)
Just discovered your channel and am really enjoying your take on movies. I hope you're able to keep making more since I already went through most of them ;>)
I forgot all about this one! The alternate ending would have made it more memorable
Where you been? Nice to see another download from ya. Great as always. Thank you for watching this movie , it really caused me anxiety just watching it now with your commentary. Don't know when I became such a big chicken lol. Again thanks you do amazing job ...
I've been working on this video. 😅 got it all done just to have to re-edit it a few times to clear Fox's copyright.
Been trying to get a better schedule for my work life so I can edit a lot more. Hopefully this will lead to more videos.
@@PolterGibbstyou make some really great content man. I genuinely enjoyed all of your stuff. I like your thoroughness, your ability to explain little details, and your videos feel relaxed instead of being an “episode” so to speak. Easily of my favorite YT channels, regardless of budget/subscriber count. Great content is great content 👍🏽
@@sjgambler9178 thank you, took quite a while to get to this point. But now when I record its literally like I'm having a conversation with a friend about a movie I really like. Makes it much easier that way.
Luckily I'm getting to the point too that I'll be able to post more. (Second channel is on the way)
New subscriber here, i really appreciate the style in which you are reviewing these films! Going through your previous vlogs is going to be my weekend, with popcorn of course! Thanks🙂
@@sbaker3426 glad you are here, and hope you enjoy the older videos too.
Am I the only one who thinks this guy looks like a white version of Ice Cube ??
well...thats how i got my cat. He just was there one day
I am not sure how you don't have a much high sub and viewer count. I've stumbled across several of your videos and they are always good.
When she said "daddy isn't here right now" I think I figured out what was going on.
The movie is about Monarch Mind Control....
"THE C.I.A IS DRINKING ALL MY VODKA NOT ME!" ahh comment
😂 I've probably wached different endings and this is why I am so confused with this movie and have watched it 1000s times as like a preteen.
Dakota fanning was born to act. That thousand yard stare has real weight behind it.
There is a 2012 film starring Mads Mikkelsen called "The Hunt". Which addresses the issue of children's credibility. If you are interested I would recommend this film to you.
By the way 4:27 that was neat. 😄
The trailer for this played before the elektra movie on dvd and it scared the shit out of me as a kid
😂 I'm gonna have to find my elektra dvd now to check it out.
Just watched this movie. The alternate endings are insane.
Come out come out wherever you are
--Robert Deniro's murderous character in Cape Fear
I'm kind of glad I watched this first before watching the movie. Cause I can appreciate a d digest this fi so much better than if I watched it and been beyond disappointed in one of the endings
Very early on I assumed David was Charlie.
You okay? Just wondering if your doing alright? Its been a minute since you last post. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Man he looks exactly like my dad.
idc idc idc I LOVE THIS MOVIE, i am biased in a way because it was my first DID ending movie, ive only seen the drawing with two heads ending but from what you described i think my favorite would be at catherines home, lights out, counting, look at reflection
Some kids are just creepy by the way they behave as adults. No screaming, no running, complex conversations and full emotional control.
Nothing is creepiest than a kid that behaves like an adult, double if on weird adult mode.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
No doubt, but it does make for some good horror movies... just want to keep it in movies though. 😅
He doesn't want me to talk about him."
Red flag. Luminous, flashing neon, red flag.
"Show me where you met him." _Racks shotgun_
😂 yep, but assumptions were made since he is a psychologist.
I dont even remeber how my dvd copy ended
I love this movie. It is so under rated.
I have never had anyone else even mention it before, hopefully this video gets people to give it a chance.
I think it is unanimous. We all need more of your videos!!! You are so much fun to watch and your taste in movies is cheft kiss! 😘🤌
Thank you. Working on the biggest project yet. Looking like it will be over 2 hours long. And I'm planning to just do some more shorter review/recap videos on movies like this one. Schedule has just been crazy lately but the way it looks the end of the year I'll be on a good consistent schedule and (hopefully) doing this full time.
This movie is lot like the secret window
Another great movie that I need to cover at some point.
This movie traumatized me as a kid
I'm just here for the clever M&M reference! Don't mind me...

i love famke jensen, and deniro. i have only the vague memories of the trailer for this movie.
I was so surprised when I looked up the full cast of this film. Most everyone has been in great movies. So I'm just glad to share the film with everyone
My brother and i chances on this one night after a restaurant shift...HADto keep watching...we are in Florida. Got completely freaked out😂 didn't get to bed till like 5am don't clearly remember ending ( middle of your video)
