- I was around the corner doing another job when I drove past this property and just had to stop and knock on the door and offer to do a free makeover. This is actually another government housing property and the tenant really needed some help. The lady living here is a single mum with two young children, and she was fining it difficult to look after the yard. She was actually thrilled when I offered to do a free makeover, but also asked to remain anonymous (the same as everyone I have asked so far). Now there is somewhere for the children to play! Not only that, but she was so happy with the effort that I put in, she bought me a box of chocolates (Baileys Truffles) and a nice handwritten card. The chocolates were delicious, I highly recommend them 😉. This episode was originally going to cover the front and back, but the front took longer than expected. All up, I spent around 14 hours on the front and went to the landfill 3 times. This is part 1 of 2.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️.
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee?
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working! All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved!
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem the same?

I follow 3 channels like this and yours is one of them. The reason I only follow 3 is because you 3 guys do a proper job when you take on these gardens. There's nothing that annoys me more than when someone starts something and then does a half arsed job. It's always a pleasure to watch your work.

This lawn makeover was a wow factor George! When you uncovered the gas meter I smiled as I thought how in the world did they get a reading on it! I wondered if the shrubs you took out will grow back from root base as most do in Texas, only the pines and cedars won’t grow back.

Far out, what a difference!!!! I love it. The tree you asked about is an Australian Frangipani, hymenosporum flavum. Lovely scented cream and yellow flowers. It grows really well here in my city in New Zealand. That house looks great now, there will be way more light in the rooms and the rock-edged planting beds look lovely. Maybe the tenant will be inspired to plant a few colourful, easy flowers. Can't believe how much effort you put into this place, George! Trimming, weeding, pruning, taking out weedy plants, mowing, blowing, and to top it off waterblasting and pressure cleaning!!! I hope you have a very relaxing and enjoyable Christmas and New Year!

Its interesting, the houses are all similar looking. Like POST WWII houses here, in the states. The iron fences are lovely. Such diverse flora and fauna in your region. Couch, Buffalo and Kykuyu grasses are so touch to deal with. You really are an amazing lawn detailer, you see the entire landscape unfold like butter🎉❤. Briliant tidy up

Love it! Super cozy! Only thing I would change is the light fixture on the ceiling. Put up a more ornate hanging light, a mini chandelier or something like that.
