HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE! I'm taking you in-store with me to show you all the best and worst products at IKEA! IKEA can be such an overwhelming place with multiple options, so I hope this video helps you narrow down your decisions! Enjoy and happy shopping!😍👏
I think people choose the cheaper items cause they have a tiny budget and still want a somewhat nice and modern home. I think we all would choose different things if we could! 😁
Yeah, the alternative to say, the Lack coffee table is fleamarket finds, not something that costs 10x as much. It's there to offer you something you can afford, which is really nice. Especially since Kristen mentions things that are renter friendly, I find it strange that she doesn't point out the cost differences.
Yeah this is my big complaint amongst "by this not that" videos for Ikea. Obviously we would all love to buy the nicer looking more expensive items if we could. But if youre buying there for cheapness, youre getting what you can, not what necessarily looks nice.
Yea… right… If we do a comparison, we should do it between items of same price range. Otherwise, it’s a no-brainer that more expensive things are nicer 😇🥰
I don’t think she was basing her recommendation on cost, but style choices alone. A lot of the items are reasonably priced and the reality is we all pay for what want, not what we can afford.
Basically: What you buy when you're broke vs what you buy when you have a little more cash The video is nice in pointing out some of the nice options Ikea has over their basics/cheaper lines!
Hi, I like watching your videos, they always inspire me. For the future, it would be great if you could consider the price in your comparisons. Saying for instance that you should buy the $1400 sofa instead of the $700 sofa bacause it has a cleaner look is kind of a no-brainer to me if you have the money to do so.
@@andrearichard1583 well of course but I think the point here is that the more costly furniture will have better style and quality generally. Hence the “you get what you pay for” phrase
@Carine C again, you don’t need to buy anything she’s recommending. Take inspo from the styles she’s suggesting and find similar items elsewhere or second hand.
I think we all need a lesson in trying to save for the sake of saving. I realize we end up spending more in the long run when we buy disposable furniture.
I like when she said that those coffee tables look more expensive, I was like, yeah maybe because they are. They're 10x the price of the other one, what did you expect?
I was SHOCKED by the massive price difference between some of the comparisons 😱 like “don’t buy the $17 - rather opt for the $69 -“ I honestly think that very different people would look at the very differently priced pieces. Anyway, we don’t have IKEA in South Africa, so I was just sticking around for my own amusement. Home decor sh-t is expensive 😓
In regards to the SODERHAM: I love mine, and the grey fabric is a nice tight weave and makes removing pet hair a dream! If you don't need a super cushiony couch , and you have messy pets/kids, this is a wonderful option! The second sofa she showed has a fabric that would get dirty stuck in it SO BADLY. The Soderham cover is also removable and washable whereas the second sofa has a non-removable cover. I know this because I compared both before I purchased. Also the Soderham is comfy, I'm a sprawler, and it works awesome for me since it has the super deep seats and the back cushions can be moved around. I also switched out the legs for wooden ones from Ikea! TLDR: The Soderham is both comfortable and easy to maintain if you have pets/kids! Legs are replacable.
I have a Soderham chair and I absolutely love it. I spray painted the legs gold and purchased a customized cover for it to give it a vintage look. I find it pretty comfortable as well. It's my favorite book reading chair.
I had the soderham setup for about 5 years. I switched out the cover a couple times to revamp my livingroom. And switched out the legs. It looked great. And everyone loved lounging on it while watching movies. It’s a great couch set up
I have the soderham Sofa and I love it its very comfortable and actually it’s wide enough that you can use it as a bed for guests and you can sleep on it much better than on many sleeper sofas
Of course the better option is always more expensive so I do appreciate that ikea provides at least something for someone with a smaller budget 😋 of course if I could afford to go for the better option, I would! and I think they know that too which is why the nicer looking things are a little bit more pricey. Thanks for your recs anyways Kristen! the pillow insert is a good one too keep in mind.
The most expensive version of anything is generally better quality, everyone knows that. I didn't find the video particularly insightful. PS.Some people don't have the extra $$ to get the more expensive stuff.
Tend to agree with you on all but one point - the bed. I would never consider buying an upholstered bed simply because over time they will become dust collectors. It would be so much more difficult to remove the dust and who knows what other allergens from upholstery than it would be from a wooden or metal framed bed. Just my two cents 🤷♀️.
@@mandypdx One comment stated she didn't agree with the upholstered bed frame due to all the dust it would accumulate, it really isn't hard a fix, just vacuum it, I noted.
I had both sofas that you recommended to avoid 😆 Ended up giving them away to buy something more comfortable. This is a great idea for a video and I really liked the one about "Ikea's secret gems", helped me so much, although I thought I knew everything about Ikea 😄 Always looking forward to your videos, Kristen! 😘
It's just her opinion, nothing else. Malm beds are awesome :) I like the one with an opening underneath so it's easier to clean. The one with storage is good as well.
@@missmayflower Sometimes if you Google slipcovers for a specific IKEA chair, other people are making ones to fit. You might wind up with one you really like.
This was a great video! Really helped explaining why not to choose certain items and choose others. For someone who keeps making a lot of mistakes in decorating, it was great to see.
Thanks for this fun video! I must come to the defense of the ulriksberg black/rattan chair. I love mine! With a seat cushion (just an extra large throw/floor pillow I got at Marshall’s) I actually worked in it for 8+ hours a day for months, very comfortably and they have held up great! The black metal has even grown on me, it actually ties some things together in my house. It’s a little more loungey than the other rattan options…I recommend!
Love your videos:).....WoW..when did Ikea get so expensive??! I used to shop there bc it was a decent build at an affordable price that used to be in style I'd rather spend that $$ at target or online.
Thanks Kristen. That was useful. I believe some IKEA furniture is not worth it. I purchased a storage closet with drawers and it fell apart after a short time. Though I still love IKEA stuff especially the kitchen section.
Lets put it this way, if you have a limited budget, you go to IKEA. If you have a larger budget but need furniture, you go to IKEA and buy the nicer items. If you have a larger budget and you WANT furniture and you care about the finished product, you stay away from IKEA and furnish your house with items from a wide selection of brands.
I love the art at IKEA and I don't care if it's been a long time at the store; I feel they always have new and great art and I buy what I like and don't care if thousands of people have it in their homes.
I literally just came on here to see if you have a new Ikea video, amazing as always Kristen. Especially like the bed and coffee table suggestions.Which desk would you avoid and which Ikea desk would you buy? Also which curtains would you avoid and which would you buy? 🐣
Besta is the best modular system for storage & media. We basically have one in every room of the house. Wall mounting makes it look custom. I’ve always hated pillow inserts from IKEA. Either they’re wimpy synthetic filling or duck feathers…which are sharp and pokey.
"...Besta storage system might be your best bet." Was I the only one to pick this out 👀👀👀 Great video, thank you! As an Ikea believer I agree with so many of your picks.
Great video and good ideas. IKEA is so large and it can be difficult to make a decision on what is the best buy. Wish you could do this king of video in other stores.
Really good suggestions, I don't follow trends, I want furniture that will last a long time and will fit any minor changes I make in the room. I have saved the dresser, but still up in the air as far as a bed frame.
We have two of the poang chairs that we bought probably 9 years ago. I do want to upgrade eventually, I’m a bit sick of them but my goodness they have held up amazing and are actually really comfortable! We were pretty broke and needed something that wouldn’t break the bank and would hold up and they sure have
As usual, great video Kristen!! I love IKEA, but sadly they are having supply issues, related to Covid, and almost everything I'm interested in is out of stock at my local store! Hopefully it will resolve soon!
Circular items, rounded corners and soft fabrics (including leather) and natural materials like wood all help create a 'soothing' space. If anyone is redecorating following a big adjustment (like a break-up) this might help create a new space for you to find happiness ❤️ Also, don't be afraid to include / replicate items that you remember from your past, for example if you had a wool blanket in your bed as a child.
This is such a thoughtful comment!!! We really don’t talk enough about the emotional impact of home decor, do we? It’s all about what’s trending, what will impress others, what’s a good value, what will endure... I always worry about my home looking *too* soft and feminine, so I’m trying to create more balance by incorporating a few square shapes and some metal touches. Wood strikes a nice balance between earthy, comforting, and solid. I never gave leather much thought until recently, but I’ve just purchased my 1st piece of leather furniture for some diversity. The bedroom is my main “emotional support room” - so that’s where I indulge my softer side. Coincidentally, my favorite childhood blanket was pink ....and I’ll bet you can guess what’s on my bed right now!😊
Hi Kristen! Always love your videos, and walk away feeling more inspired after watching. Could you do one focusing on indoor rugs? Do you ever suggest buying used rugs? I'm needing a bit of guidance to updating mine. Thanks!!! You're the best!!!
Well I feel better now .Our current sofas came from a second hand (Thrift) shop about 4 yrs ago and they look neater and in better condition than some of the IKEA showroom sofas .Very similar in style to the Upland sofa but have survived years of being sat / lounged / slept on and still look pretty good ,esp after a bit of plumping .I think I will continue my usual habit of buying used but good quality pieces .
I don't know if I agree about the Idanas line. It's the most expensive in the Ikea lineup, but is it really worth it? We went with Songesand when we bought our things.
I LOVE IKEA and I am a new follower of your videos. I did just purchase a black malm bed for myself and my daughter. I absolutely love the design and style. I couldn’t do a upholstered bed because my cats will destroy it. I had one before the malm bed and it was ruined by my cat, who ONLY scratched the bed.
I was feverishly creating a Pinterest board as I was watching this. I’m moving into a new home in December and this video was exactly what I needed to see. Thank you.
I love how she says that you shouldn't buy the Lack coffee table for 10-50$ but better aim for Listerby for 100-250$ because "they actually have a substantial weight to them which makes them look and feel more expensive" 6:33 - well, it's because it is. I would definitely hope for a higher quality when I pay a much higher price. And I don't think most people go for the Lack series because they think it's the most beautiful design in the world, but rather because it is simply affordable.
Very nice video. I have to say, I had not been to IKEA in more than 20 years. Last week I went to the IKEA in Milwaukee and was disappointed in what was not available. That said, it is back to school time and there were many back to schoolers in the store. I am getting a foreign exchange student so was looking for pieces for her room. I want to put a reading nook in there and did not even look at chairs. My daughter has the traditional IKEA chairs and I love sitting in them, even over her deep seated couch. I may have to see about ordering those. Again, great video and thank you for the ideas.
In my opinion the Hemnes dresser is nicer than the Idanas, though more expensive. I have it in white, but I'm thinking of changing the color. It also comes in a great brick red color which is amazing. Always a pleasure to watch your proposals. Greetings from Greece!!!
Used your video to gel stain my stair railing’s and although it was a long and labor intensive process the end result is great. Getting many compliments thanks to you. Love your information!!
Koarp has great options but if you notice, the seat cushion extends beyond the base & therefore will become very uncomfortable when the cushion softens!
I think the larger fake plants might be good to create privacy and atmosphere for a outdoor space. Like the small condo type decks that are sometimes close together.
A special thank you! Your videos are inspiring. Your designer eye is impeccable and such a gift. I pray when I buy a home Your videos will allow me to create the home of my dreams. Thank you Kristen 😊.
❤ thank you for the guide. We haven't been to IKEA in a while. What a great marketplace. You're right that people tend to purchase cheaper items; however, at IKEA, you can find more cost effective items with great quality❤
Hey Kristen, great video! Is there any chance you might remember the name of the brown nightstands at 9:03? I have been looking for one just like them! Thanks for the help!
The 'modern' sofas you showed instead of soderhamn do not have the option of washing the covers. I think people will go for soderhamn for the fact that you can clean the entire thing by simply washing the covers. And configuring your own sofa is a bonus

I am very happy about all malm in my bedroom for 14 years now
"looks and feels more expensive". well, the price tag too, honey --' . ten times the price, for the lack table. it's not a feeling anymore.
You really have to be extremely poor to think about buying the lack coffee table. I would prefere buying nothing at all and save for something better.
If it's comfortable, does the job, is practical, affordable, and you like it, then job done; don't let others tell you what's "on trend"
100% agree, everyone's got different preferences
You just can't beat the MALM drawers for space and price, well built with clean lines. So so roomy and sturdy.

Love your IKEA videos!!!❣Greetings from Germany🙋♀️
Once again, amazing video and thank you for the great ideas.
Great video Kristen. I like the boho chair without the cushion , that you recommend. 😍
In your presence I feel so safe, cozy & amazing! Thank you Kristen for making me smile every day 🙏
😳😮😂
Wow Kristen! So much good info today! Thank you for the guidance!😃♥
I think the larger fake plants might be good to create privacy and atmosphere for a outdoor space. Like the small condo type decks that are sometimes close together.
Kristen I missed the name of that basic duvet cover you recommended, the brown one you said was soft, but like linen?
Thanks for the suggestions. Love all your videos ❤.
This was a good one! Great tips!! 🌻

Thank You Kristen I absolutely love your channel
❤ thank you for the guide. We haven't been to IKEA in a while. What a great marketplace. You're right that people tend to purchase cheaper items; however, at IKEA, you can find more cost effective items with great quality❤
Hey Kristen, great video! Is there any chance you might remember the name of the brown nightstands at 9:03? I have been looking for one just like them! Thanks for the help!
plsss make some version of kitchen at bathroom thanks and thanks for the inspiration......
The 'modern' sofas you showed instead of soderhamn do not have the option of washing the covers. I think people will go for soderhamn for the fact that you can clean the entire thing by simply washing the covers. And configuring your own sofa is a bonus
