It’s what ever band member such as myself is supposed to do, one time during marching band practice I had an enormous horse fly start to burry in my sleeve but I was at set and couldn’t move so I didn’t.
As I trumpet player I can confirm this is normal when you use a lot of air commonly by playing higher it causes pressure to build up inside your head this can cause head spins and make You pass out
@@MichaelWidjaja yeaa I've never played that high at a concert but I've not eaten several days before concerts and know how bad that can be luckily I've never passed out yet *knock on wood*
Holy shit. First of all hello I play trombone and Jesus fuck this is scary but you have to appreciate the fact that despite passing out you got right back into the music. Like that’s extreme dedication! I am on my second year as of August 25th I want to say. Again great fucking playing! And great dedication. Have a great day!
Thank you so much, PanDough! I am having a great day, especially after reading your comment! I will say...whatever you want to do with your life, make sure that extreme dedication is towards something you want! I've learned so much about trumpet playing this year and this was back in January! Take care!
Oh, so it's not me being fat and out of shape, this is a thing. Props for getting back into the music as if nothing went wrong, that's a profesional right there 👏🏻
Haha, no, it is not! But there is a preparation to at least attempt for this not to happen. On professionalism, profanity is not apart of it 😂 I appreciate the compliment!
@@MichaelWidjaja Yeah, but I can let the profanity fly due to the fact that you were mentally impaired at the moment. You probably droped 40 iq points (and lost basic motor skills) for a second, so shi.... I mean "menure" happens.
I blacked out in an orchestral performance about a year ago. The composer wrote a triple forte high B on C trumpet, plus we were performing outdoors in sweltering heat
my cousin blacked out during a middle school chorus rehearsal off the top riser faceplanted, and lost 4 of his front teeth - music performance is a sport
@@MichaelWidjaja Yiiiikes that doesn’t sound fun, the second movement of Bernstein’s Jeremiah symphony has a lot of high Bs as well High B must be the highest note that’s not red on Sibelius or something because composers have no problem writing it lol
I played in a college marching band and as we were on the final chord of the song, the first trumpet player in front of me in the first row fell over like a board from a high note. Immediately followed by the cheery fight song and us marching off the field past the drum majors who were struggling to carry him out. Few days later our section reconvened and had a good laugh about it, he thought it was hilarious. Sucks he got a concussion from it, though.
I've played trumpet for 5 years now and i remember one time i was playing really high and the pressure build up but for some very strange reason the pressure popped in my ear and it hurt a lot. Not even sure how that happened but that's the only time it has happened
For those who wonder why this happens.... The trumpet is a high resistance instrument compared to other members of the brass family. You will need to generate extremely high velocity air streams for high notes and this takes a lot of pressure - intrathoracic pressure to be exact. Exhaling against resistance is considered something called a Valsalva manoeuvre. When a Valsalva is done, your blood pressure will spike for a bit but as you exhale, your blood pressure drops from all the muscles in your body relaxing; combined with a sudden drop in intrathoracic pressure, this causes a sudden drop in blood pressure leading to the blackout.
Wow! Thanks for the insight. I've learned so much after this video, and what we players try to do is create that pressure from the core/abdomen. This is still a lot of pressure. That day, I did not eat anything that day before the performance and it was HOT. All black was not suiting me.
I feel like the same thing happens with instruments with no resistance at all like Flutes because some notes require a LOT of air to push out, and it’s really easy to get light headed playing one.
This happened to me yesterday- my band director wanted us to match and play the halftime show about 4 times without no breaks. 2 measures before the end of the song is when I passed out. People thought it was part of the show...( I play trombone )
Couple things to avoid this situation.... yes the jacket looks nice but getting over heated, even indoors, it's not cool.... take the jacket off and loosen the tie just a notch if you can.... when hitting high notes it helps a lot to bend your knees ever so slightly.... it'll help your diaphragm contract to hit the higher notes and puts just a little less stress on your circulatory system hopefully avoiding passing out.... glad you were able to recover....
@@griffindrucker5712 yes indeed.... probably started out as a natural reaction but was exaggerated a bit for visual effect but definitely gets the job done....
