Just to be precise, Flamme doesn't have similar earring than Frieren, they are the same. Frieren started wearing them after Flamme passed away, you can see in her flashback that she didn't have any when flamme was alive.
I used to think this too, but after rewatching I noticed they are different designs, they just look similar. Flammes earings have a little gold bit underneath the red gems.
@@Despotic_Waffle I like to think they are the same but Frieren just modified them. Flamme had pierced ears. While Frieren likes clip-ons. Maybe Elves don't like piercing their ears.

28 since Hummel died. Plus 50 years since the heroes party killed the Demon King. The comet shower appeared again after 50yrs. So about 80yrs! Tho the Flamme flashbacks were 1000 years ago.😅
@@silvervibranium2832 Hmm, true. I was measuring it based on her personal journey of trying to understand people better after Himmel's death, but we did also see what she was up to for those 50 years prior. I'm not going to count Flamme, though, since those are all shown through flashbacks.
I like how she never gets an omniman like lifespan/power/emotion based superiority complex like a lot of fantasy elves do. She’s not a *demon* after all.
Frieren has this Tolkien-esque trope of elves being these calm and pacient beings with a tendency towards the melancholy, their long lifespans gifting them with a unique perspective of time but also instilling in them this fear of change and evolution, making them afraid to form relationships with members of other ancetries in fear that time will take them away from them whilst they remain unchanged. It's a trope that's been around basically since the conception of elves in the fantasy genre (also since immortality has been a trope on other stories?) so I was actually surprised when I saw this and noticed I knew no other story that explored it as thoroughly as Frieren.
Could you imagine living at your own pace day after day for as long as Frieren and some 16 year old is trying to conform to some silly daily schedule? Nah. The inertia of livetimes.
Can we just stop for a second and recognize that Flamme is so incredibly important as a mage that people, even those with little to no interest in magic know her name, and scammers REGULARLY fake books to say they were written by her even after whatever insane quantity of time has passed for even Frieren to consider it long ago, and Frieren just casually drops that yeah, Flamme is her master. Frieren could easily have ridden her master's fame to glory herself without slaying a demon king, and she did that anyway.
25:07 Don’t worry, it’s not just 10 years’ worth of walking…. there’s also talking, sleeping, eating, and putting on jackets. ^_^ And maybe a battle or two here and there. ^_^
I'll be honest, I started tearing up when Frieren said, "That's right. A mere ten-year journey." 😭 It's the same phrasing she used to describe the adventure with the Hero's party and they'll be following the same path again. Except this time, she has things to reminisce on and share with Fern during the journey. Things that didn't feel important or consequential to her before now have extra meaning all these years later and experiencing it all with Fern will give her a brand new perspective on how the others probably felt.
The thing I love about Frieren is that even though she's functionally immortal, she still has incredibly immature tendencies and moments like not being able to wake up in the morning and falling for mimics.
Some little things of note from this episode that you may or may not have noticed: Frieren turning grapes sour for Eisen Flamme’s quote on souls is the same as from episode one on the map Flamme’s earrings are the same exact ones Frieren is wearing. Also it’s like a 24 episode season, not 12
@@LJLvidsYeah, because episodes 1-4 were released together as a special, they're counted as one episode, and Frieren is planned for 24 total, or I believe 23 episodes after episode 4, up to 27.
Frieren's line about the 10 year trip not even being a hundredth of her lifetime has a lot to unpack buried in there. For humans, a year is technically around a hundredth of their lifetime, but a year is a fairly meaningful amount of time. People are impacted by year-long trips to other countries or with unfamiliar people. Frieren acts as though 10 years is basically nothing and shouldn't influence her. As if 30 years is basically nothing. 1000 years ago, Frieren looked a bit older than Fern when she was introduced. An episode or two ago, Fern noted that at 16, she finally looked older than Frieren. A hundredth was Frieren's understatement. She'll probably live for thousands of years more.
I dunno, a tongue-click of disappointment sometimes feels worse than getting yelled at, especially if followed by a weary sigh. At least if they're yelling at you they're willing to exert the energy into their annoyance.
24:42 Frieren will have 28 episodes for this season split between 2 cours. Just thought I should mention although this is probably recorded a while ago so you probably knew
"Heaven exist. It's more convenient if it does." For a little bit of trivia, this is essentially Pascal's Wager. The idea that either the afterlife exist or it doesn't, and by choosing to believe it does, by making that bet, you have everything to win and nothing to loose, that believing in an afterlife has many benefits, many of which aren't even linked to wether or not it does actually exist (no existencial dread over the idea of your own death, easier grieving etc)

well there are more episodes now and that journey to the demon kings castle (for now at least) is the rest of the story. It'll slow down a bit in time jumps now and they are not even halfway done in the manga, if i should guess.
When it comes to aging there is an odd theory about the elves in this setting, that we've never seen an "old" elf...well later one we do see what might be an adult male elf (Croft) who helped inspire this theory with how he looks vs some elves in the background in Frieren's memories. With the knowledge you finished this series (to date) so my late posting is not a spoiler. As Croft was like six feet tall and looked older, we haven't seen any female elves (that we know of) his potential age. So the theory goes that the elf villages on this continent were "youth colonies", the younger generations from another world or another continent going out to make their own villages, the reason they all look so young and as Frieren puts it (lack a sex drive) is because they are technically mentally young for elves. While they can physically have children, some in those villages likely doing so out of a sense of obligation, as far as their mental and physical states are concerned they won't develop a proper adult body and a sex drive till they are several thousand years old. Entire nations rising and falling before an elf woman grows to be tall and curvy and thinks, "wow, I want to have a baby, or just get laid for fun". The colonies aside from the founding generation possibly not even aware of what their own kind look and feel like when properly fully grown. This theory is also based on the goddess statue, the theory the goddess from the age of mythology was actually a fully grown elf.
The anime will be 28 episodes, but will not have a definitive conclusion as the manga is still ongoing. It's actually 24 episodes, but Crunchyroll decided to split up episode 1 into 4 parts, confusing any one comparing the Japanese and EN releases.
