I really like the implications about Kraft in this chapter: Stark comments about his physique and that he must be famous among warriors, implying that word of strong combatants spreads fast. This implies that for both to be right Kraft's name must have spread over the land at some point, but as he mentions, everyone who has heard his name has passed away already. It also implies that he's a VERY seasoned adventurer. When Frieren mentions that they're going to Aureole, Kraft instantly recognizes the destination as Heaven. If you've put attention, humanity hasn't been aware of this for at least 1000 years, as it took the legendary Framme to find it and catalogue it as such, and her findings have been hidden in her house under the tree of episode 4. Only Frieren, Eisen and Fern know about it, everyone else in the continent knows Aureole as the land of the Demon King's Castle, even Himmel and company didn't see the Heaven when they went to defeat the Demon King, so it has to be hidden and thus people never knew about it. But Kraft does.
that's an awesome catch. I didn't even notice that first time I watched it. Why does Kraft mac and cheese know that Aureole is heaven? That makes be believe that when he talked about the Goddess descending to earth during the age of mythology, its possible he remembers it happening.
I can understand Frieren there. It's like making your Drivers License every 2 years with different rules, because the Organisation formerly in charge of giving out licenses is no more. It would become a hassle pretty quick.
imagine if every few months or so some regulation changed and you got pulled over and fined or had to go to court because you didn't have some *special ID for traveling on highways* but then learn you need three IDs because crossing state lines was regulated, or your old ID is now out of date because now its not illegal to cross state lines or use interstates and highways but your special IDS are now useless and need a single federal ID, but then learn like three weeks later you can't use that ID at a bank anymore you have to have a special costs extra social banking ID etc...and everyone around you acts like this is totally normal and everyone knew about it and insists it doesn't change often.
Kraft is really interesting because he's clearly from an era BEFORE Frieren and even Flamme the Legendary Mage. If his work ethic is anything like Frieren's, he's probably about as close to physical perfection as a living being can get to as a person who trains, even if he doesn't 'fight' as a warrior would. And he still looks like he's basically in his prime, despite the fact that he's walking history.
I've seen some speculation from the manga readers that he might have lived through the era of the gods, and that's why his faith is strong while Frieren is skeptical. Unfortunately, there's not much backing this theory beyond Kraft 'looking' physically older than Frieren and extrapolating out from that.
@@Axius27 Well that and in his vision of what the Goddess looks like... he has a literal depiction of what she looks like that appears VERY specific, which could imply he saw her literal form long ago and is going off a direct memory. Could also be his ideal version of what he imagines the Goddess will look like though. Its impossible to know for certain either way, but its important to have open ended questions like this in a fantasy setting without every little detail being explained. It makes the world feel more alive and deep when people who read/watch the series come to open ended questions like this and basically get to fill in the blanks however they want.
I think the flashbacks with Flamme in the last episode may have confused you a bit. The Demon King is already dead, he was killed by Himmel, Heiter, Eisen, and Frieren's party (That is how the entire show starts... the four of them returned from the Demon King's castle and were celebrated as great heroes as a result).
Your observation about Heiters lack of facial animation at 19:51 is a really cool catch. I just wanted to add that, based on my understanding, this would be due to good direction and prioritization rather than budget because budget doesn't really work like this in anime production.
Kraft is one of the most interesting characters in my opinion, if the show goes by DnD logic monks live 10 times as much as none monks and considering Kraft is an elf, for all we know he is easily more than 10 thousands years old
I don't think he is D&D Monk though, his attire more suggest that he is a Cleric or some other RPG Priest-type class, rather than a martial artist. I think he just happens to have also spent a lot of time training his body as well, similar to how Frieren likes to collect spells and Flamme's fake books... it is just his hobby.
@@TheJeSTeR7530 Kraft has been remembered as part of a pair of "Ancient heroes", he likely was really famous back then, so I do think in DnD he would be a cleric/monk multi-class.
@@TheJeSTeR7530he doesn’t use healing magic or any of that from what we’ve seen. So I think he does fit in with the d&d monk, just with the more religious aspect of actual monks which d&d characters often ignore. D&D monk has basically changed to mean ‘martial artist’ archetypes but, at least back in my 3 experiences , they did come from temples and monasteries.
Its druids that live 10 times as long, monks bodies dont age but they still die of old age at the normal time, also i think he was a warrior but hes a monk now religiously
one thing I don't t hink many catch is about the discussion between Heiter and Frieren in this episode when they talk about Frieren's Mana. Heiter mentions it might help if a child of his were to become a mage. this loops wayyyy back to episode 2 and 3 when it is mentioned that Fern is "difficult to notice". Heiter must have taught Fern the very basics of suppressing her mana, which also explains why she picked up the skill *this* fast when Frieren taught her properly.
Having such drastically long or short amounts of time pass in episodes like this reminds me of that line from AoT in 8 minutes: "How have we gone from years passing in a single episode to spending half an arc on a buıʞɔnɟ horse!?"
I was told by fans of the manga that to better understand the age of elves in this series is to think that every 100 years equals to 1 year for an elf.
@@joenull5945 You are telling me that Freiren is functionally 10 years old by elf standards? So she possibly still has 7-10 thousand years before she will die? Assuming Elves in this world aren't LOTR Immortal and live to the relative human age.
@@Anurahm_Kycor Yes. Manga readers said to think of her as being an 11 year old and apply it to how she developed relationships. 12:00 considering that its fern that drags frieren away, this camera angle is from ferns perspective. I like to think fern used the "see through clothes" magic as she was looking down.
Frieren said that elves don't have romantic inclinations or urges like most creatures do and that's why they're going extinct. Now, for anyone who's read the source material, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I wonder if it's actually because it takes a long long long time, maybe eons, before an elf reaches sexual maturity?
I LOVE the naming conventions of this anime! The last city in the country? Äußerst. Difficult mountains? Schwer. Seemingly cold hearted and -blooded elf? Frieren. Warrior strong as Iron? Eisen. Warrior just plain strong? Stark. I´m just rolling every time there is a new name. But, on the other hand, I know exactly what to expect. Like the demon Lügner.
Considering Heiter said to Freiren in the past what Kraft said in the present, either that's a thing that the priesthood of the Goddess uses as a conversion tactic, or it's possible Kraft was the one that trained Heiter as a priest, and I really hope it's the second one. That would make Fern Kraft's granddaughter via training/masters. 'Grand-student'?
Alicia! You probably recognize Kraft the Monk's voice actor as the same one who did Clayman from Slime or Roswaal from Re:Zero... that dude's big time. Love his voice.
