As a translator - shortening “Himmel no nakama nari nani” to “would be what?” is actually fine. It’s somewhat awkward English to repeat “Himmel’s companions would be what?” in response to a sentence that makes it clear we’re talking about Himmel’s companions. We’re really not losing any meaning by shortening it to “would be what” and it’s more legible English.
In terms of subtitles, the "The world has changed" line is actually more egregious, since Frieren says that "the world *is* changing", implying that while it's not quite there just yet, it's on the right track.
That's very basic stuff in subtitling, not use all the same words but shorten it. Sometimes it can oversimplify certain wording, but then again the convenience of slower-reading audience members needs to be considered. If you want full context you gotta learn the language.

Well good news, Denken's gonna get like 2 volumes worth story arc and we're gonna see pretty much everyone from this exam again, even those who didn't pass. So the "when we meet again" is on point :)
Bit late to this reaction, but if they ever do an anime of Getting Tired of the Lazy High Elf Life After 120 years, it would be equally devastating. It's a very similar theme of following an immortal elf protagonist saying goodbye to people over time, but more focused on the passage of time in general instead of coming to terms with it
Season 2 has NOT been announced. But what i got from the ending message is that the everyone who worked on Frieren is definitely pushing for a season 2 and is the tentative pre-announcement planning and working stage.
This is what watching peak is like. And in a sense, I get why we had to part with our honorary 4th member so soon. Nothing lasts forever, and you need to cherish what time you have with others because it is limited. This anime is just pure art.
Serie's conversation with Wirbel is the most important one, I think. She failed Frieren because when she asked Frieren what her favourite spell was, Frieren instantly responded with a spell that was functionally useless. Wirbel was passed because he did the opposite - he told Serie exactly what she wanted to hear, that magic was a tool for violence and destruction, so having a favourite is unnecessary. Mages only need to have the appropriate tool for the job.
I've found Serie intriguing when she talked about how her human students were disappointing. My interpretation is that she's speaking kinda like a Star Wars Sith master and apprentice dynamic in that the master picks their apprentice with the idea that they would surpass them in the end. She says she's disappointed in them because they all die without achieving the same or higher level than her. I also think it's a sweet notation that even if her students never surpassed her, she never considered them a waste of her time. In regards to love after loss, I feel it truly depends on the individual. There are those who have enough space in their hearts to love another individual after all that's said and done. It's not that they never loved their late partner enough, but it's just life continues onward. For some, it's considered a blessing to be able to meet, befriend and love 2 extraordinary individuals. On the flip side, you have people who gave everything to that one person. In a sense, their former partner is forever enshrined in their hearts that they could never love another person the same way. To those people, that devotion even beyond death is their way of honoring and continual love of that person. I met people from both spectrums during my time as an EMT, there's no truly right way as it's more of picking a path and sticking with it for good or worse. Personally, if something were to happen to me, I would wish my girlfriend to seek happiness even if that means moving on from me. If something were to happen to her? It's hard to say, but I probably would be my lonesome for a long, long while. I am one of those people that when I love, I love deeply to the point of my own determent. It's like that one song: "Believe" by Cher, I guess it's up to the individual if they can believe in life after love.
There are a lot of reasons. Jealousy, disappointment (she did say that Frieren is strong, but then she dismissed her for not being ambitious. Think like a kid who has talent but does nothing with it), pride (she the strongest mage in the world most likely couldn’t defeat demon king, and this failure of a mage in her eye accomplished that). Serie is really complex character in that regard
Could be like that, but the main reason is that Frieren holds a different views about magic that Serie sees Frieren as mage with lacking ambition. Pretty much like how Right wing person view a leftist person and vice versa and how they hate each other with conflicting ideals
Honestly, Serie is most likely is just pissed off because Frieren sees right through her. On a side note, the next thousand years thing also made sure Frieren will be remembered in a way, as long as Serie's still around.
They fundamentally look at things different. It happens in real life. It's more than just a singular reason, but I have no idea where people are getting the "she's just mad cause Flamme spent time with her" when there's never been any indication of that.
19:42 To be fair to Lernen if you are someone who wanted to take on Frieren, THE Frieren on a magic battle, you'd have to do surprise attack. Remember in the dungeons, what Frieren's fatal weakness was.
@@nonlmao Thing is, it was clear from Frieren's look she knew that he was going to attack, so was hardly a surprise attack. She even blocked 2 of the 3 hits and gained some distance, the only surprising thing for her was that the spells actually broke her shields.
I don't know if you've watched it already or not, or if you'd be willing or able to react to it, but a show I think you'd enjoy is The Owl House. It's one of the Disney Epics, and it's pretty good with making good characters that you can really get attached to and enjoy. Again, don't know if you have seen it already or would be willing to, but I thought I'd offer the idea suggestion since I think you would enjoy it.
don't worry we will see more of those exam character in the future, because many of them are from the north or intended to travel north. let's hope there is a next season of anime.
If yall notice, even tho Serie and Frieren are ancient they still look like children. Kraft already looks like an old man, imagine how old is he compared to them.
I think it’s interesting. Frieren isn’t a “talented” mage or even a really “good” mage. Her main advantage is her time spent training. But what she enjoys is collecting “useful” spells. The niche spells like grow flowers, clean clothes, find object, write notes, mage hand, prestidigitation, detect disease, etc. she knows combat magic but she isn’t a prodigy, or a dedicated battle mage. She is a mage for a peaceful era. Collecting spells that are useful in daily life. Her view of magic is the exact opposite of flammes mentor. She views magic as something that should be special. A powerful tool for combat. Frieren views magic as something that should be mundane. A common tool used for anything and everything. It is her passion to find these small trinket spells. She doesn’t flaunt her magic power, she doesn’t pursue the most dangerous or powerful spells, she doesn’t even have the pride or drive of a heroic figure of a mage. Instead, she is a simple elf suppressing their power and collecting her small spells over time. To make her life and the lives of others better. And a part of that is killing monsters and demons to make sure people’s lives stay better. So the difference is the entire worldview on magic.

Serie says Flamme didn't get on her level, and that *most* of her students died before reaching her level. How many students do you think reached Serie's level, and what are they doing now? Also how did she know the DK saw through Frieren's mana concealment?
Frieren defeated him using only words. This is the power of a true magician. If anyone thinks that a powerful mage is the one who knows the most spells and is the strongest, they are wrong. The most important attribute of a mage is intelligence, wisdom and experience. Here is Frieren. The greatest of mages.
You see this is where we differ greatly. You cried on episode 1, harder on 2. The second Denken talked about his wife, I was KO’d. I weeped from then until the walk away from town with Himmel. At that moment, I was royally fucked up and cried like a bitch through the credits.
In the manga he said all 3 (himself, Serie, and Frieren) are all awkward. Lernen was Series first First Class mage and as far as mages go he's incredibly skilled. The one issue is Lernen wanted to last in the years to follow in a similar sense to Flamme who is legendary. He does this because he doesn't want Flamme to be the only thing linking Serie to the world so he does this by attempting to kill Frieren for fame. Which is the whole "mages are awkward" comments because combat oriented mages are just that very awkward (even Serie is a bit awkward).
Lernen in his opinion thinks he's "nothing" to Serie, and that once he passes, Serie will get lonely for she has no one spectacular under her wing to talk about or think about. Flamme is special, and somehow the world has heard stories about her, but that's what Lernen is worried about. Serie has taken plenty of students, but only one was "great" in a sense. Great enough for Serie to talk about, and Lernen thought it's the only student Serie would only think about. Hence, Lernen made a bizarre decision to "kill" Frieren, in the hopes that such a feat would be known worldwide, in which it will all connect to Serie, since Lernen was her student. But that wasn't the case. Serie just happens to be WORSE than Frieren in understanding emotions. You can say that she's actually pretty lonely because of that, but not really, for Serie, despite being that way, has never forgotten ANY of her students. Pls correct me if im wrong somewhere.
Another season, another great series comes to an end... at least for now. I believe season 2 had already been announced so hopefully it comes around sooner rather than later. I really, REALLY enjoyed this series and I'm glad you did too.
I think you misunderstanding what serie means by a waste. She said he's strong and even can kill frieren but he's just a human that have short lifespan and already old/die by the time he reached that level. That's why she said a "waste"
Man, I love Denken. He's first introduced as this old cutthroat political mage, but then you quickly realize he's a big softie who wants to visit his wife's grave and spend all his hard earned money playing the dotting grandfather with whichever youngster he finds. It's freaking adorable. "I made it this far because of you two." I disagree, Denken. You made it this far because you consistently made good calls throught this whole arc. Also because you have a mean uppercut. Fare well, baddie grampa.

Well good news, Denken's gonna get like 2 volumes worth story arc and we're gonna see pretty much everyone from this exam again, even those who didn't pass. So the "when we meet again" is on point :)
those weren't pretzels btw. they were puff pastries called SweetHearts. puff pastry covered in large sugar in the shape of a heart usually.
NGL I can totally see a laundry spell being legendary class for pure convenience alone.
Now we all get to feel like Himmel…. Waiting years for Freiren to come back to us…….
They better not No Game, No Life us, for real.
Not even Serie wanted to be in close proximity to Ubel for too long 🤣
That's a spell I'd ask for. The water saved alone would make it worth the effort.
I think the belated formal request for a duel was because Frieren made no attempt to counter attack him.
11:50 I noticed the cut-down too
Last time we see Denkin... Yeah... 😊
Wonderful to go on this journey with you all!
It may not look strong but Tide Pod magic does x2 damage against zoomers.
For me Serie is just jealous that Flamme spent so much time with Frieren instead of with her, that's why she's so annoying with Frieren
Nooo, you're looking at it the wrong way with Lernen and Serie!!!
It's a tragic story, I'm sad that it flew over her head.
Also old guy Lernen doesn't deserve that much disrespect 😢😢😢
@@blessyou7143 Most reactors kinda do that because of their love to the main cast especially Frieren and Fern
It's a bit of a shame, but still tho. Surprise attack into requesting a duel is definitely weird haha
IDK that she did. Lernen's actions were pretty stupid, even if he had an understandable motive.
I HAVE DUNKAROOS fucking jumpscared me
This show was amazing! I can't wait to see season two.
No season 2 announcement yet. There is enough content for a second 28 episode season tho.
If yall notice, even tho Serie and Frieren are ancient they still look like children. Kraft already looks like an old man, imagine how old is he compared to them.
oh yea true
ALICIA!
Petition to ask for Alicia to react to all Fairy Tail openings! I need her to get hyped to it!!
"You're a pervy elf fancier Methode, you pass now get away from me."
11:40 “Himmel’s party members would be what?”
"tearful goodbyes arent our style" then why tf am i crying biach Q_Q
Wonderful last episode of season1 & I am looking forward to watch the season2🌸
Compilation of Frieren will be broadcasted next week (March, 29, 23:15-23:45) in Japan📺
Alright, show of hands. Who wants a laundry spell? 🖐️
I'm still curious what anime that astronaut/cosmonaut one is as the outro. at around 28:53
I believe it's from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
11:36 Don't worry, Alicia, ya didn't miss anything 😁 Here's my "barely knows japanese" nerd assist 🤓
So he said "Yuusha Himmel no nakama nara..." and Frieren just replied "Himmel no nakama nara... nani?"
The literal translation would just be repeating what he said like "Himmel's party members would be... what?" 😉👍
Sad that it ended but it looks like we get more Season 2 was annunced...there's also 11 Mini-episodes you could watch if you like...some funny shorts :)
The "the journey to Ende continues" isn't really a confirmation for season 2, it's just them going "and their journey continues" AKA the manga.
other protagonists: "i want to learn this technique/spell/skill that makes me godlike so i can protect my friends"
fern: "one laundry spell please" 🤣
based character from a based show i'm slightly upset it over for now :3
Serie says Flamme didn't get on her level, and that *most* of her students died before reaching her level. How many students do you think reached Serie's level, and what are they doing now? Also how did she know the DK saw through Frieren's mana concealment?
"what are they doing now?"
They're probably resting in the dirt my dude
Dude they’re humans, they probably died a century ago.
So is Land basically like Twice? Except zero Trauma
More like Naruto, making shadow clones.
Shadow clones, because he has full control over them. They fully realize they're clones, because the Land is literally controlling them. It's 1 mind.
they cut down the subtitles because USayans cant read!
I mean we still have an elf mage. Marcille from delicious in dungeon.
Another season, another great series comes to an end... at least for now. I believe season 2 had already been announced so hopefully it comes around sooner rather than later. I really, REALLY enjoyed this series and I'm glad you did too.
The best arc is incoming
Your reaction is very gooooooood! from Japan!
Here's hopng we get a S2!
24:32 Serie’s face is meme material
eyy lots of yappin lots of "i just told you!", lots of *O*, lots of Happy beeean! love it
All the other 1st class mages getting super powerful spells to make themselves even more dangerous. Fern, I want clean clothes magic.
Girl took Prestidigitation
I think you misunderstanding what serie means by a waste.
She said he's strong and even can kill frieren but he's just a human that have short lifespan and already old/die by the time he reached that level.
That's why she said a "waste"
Man, I love Denken. He's first introduced as this old cutthroat political mage, but then you quickly realize he's a big softie who wants to visit his wife's grave and spend all his hard earned money playing the dotting grandfather with whichever youngster he finds. It's freaking adorable.
"I made it this far because of you two."
I disagree, Denken. You made it this far because you consistently made good calls throught this whole arc. Also because you have a mean uppercut. Fare well, baddie grampa.
I want to belive that ubell tried to follow land he finally got tired of her shit and land was just like my real body isnt any were near hear and just pops away her clone. Also i dont get how you people ship those 2 as soon as ubell learns shadow clone from him his life is probably in danger
You should totally add a =w= toggle to your model.
the manga still continue hope ya try it :)
I would love a prequel of Deken
Let us see his hardships
hate to rain on the parade, but "the journey to Ende continues" isn't really a confirmation for a second season, in my eyes. it's more like "see you, space cowboy" at the end of cowboy bebop. at least at the time of writing this, there is no actual official confirmation to be found ANYWHERE
Unfortunaly the next meet will be embarassing. Perfect ending for a perfect anime. I'm obessed.
If you really liked Frieren, you should check out Spice in Wolf, which is airing in 9 days.
Hey Alicia while the Freiren s1 end i wanna give a suggestion for you ! , start to Watch Mashle : Magic and Muscle the Anime is inceedibly hilarious and epic at the same time ! , It's like harry potter and One punch man combined! You should watch it tho it's fun !.
Denken is the next arc and so far the best arc
You should rewatch the series with the English dub. Like everything else in this anime, it was done really well.
What an amazing anime.
FWIW several of these characters DO appear further in the manga. Won't say which.
who else likes it raw, uncensored and uncut?
Some of the messages just flew over your head huh
