    Will you follow through on these progressions?!?!?! See what we did there???🤣

    Thanks for the mention Jeremy.
    This was a fun watch. I don't comment often but when my name is used, I sometimes feel the need to offend myself. (The best defence is a good offence.)
    Technique, aim, hours on the board, and a backstop to catch flying discs, that's all it takes to get better at follow-through 20s - lots and lots of hours on the board...
    One of the toughest drills I do when practicing follow through 20s is to place the opponent disc outside the circle of pegs but close enough that your shooter disc will have a hard time squeezing through between the target disc and the pegs.
    Then shoot straight through the pegs, sending the target disc out the far side and following into the 15 / 20 area.
    Not a recommended shot during a game, due to its high risk nature, but fun in practice to see how much air time you can get.
    Happy New Year!!!!!

    I’m here because someone in our club beat me yesterday with a follow through 20. I hate to lose, but I was in awe of the amazing shot. Came here to figure out how to do it myself.

      Yup, losing sucks and is super inspiring all at the same time :-)

    Great video...I would only add that even the best players have a relatively low percentage on follow through 20s...so as you are practicing and learning don't get discouraged if you are not making them at a high rate. They are difficult to make.

    • @TraceyBoards
      @TraceyBoards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      are you sure about this? I feel like you have a very high success rate on follow through 20s... at least when you are sitting across the board from me. LOL.
      And yes, great point. I tried to say that and perhaps I should have driven it home a bit more.

      @@TraceyBoards I think you did mention it, I just think that the average person wouldn't realize how low the percentages are for the top players. I would estimate my follow through percentage as less than 10%; the best follow through shooters - Roy, Jeremy, Nathan, and perhaps a couple of others in my opinion - I would estimate a % of between 20 and 30 percent (does that sound right to you?) in tournament play. Of course the numbers skew lower some because the best players are willing to try more and more difficult follow throughs, thus lowering their percentage. Anyway, all this to say in many things in life if you are only successful between 10 and 20 percent of the time, it's not particularly great - but with follow throughs, that's pretty good!

    • @TraceyBoards
      @TraceyBoards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andrewhutchinson8960 I would guess its higher but I have been accused of being too optimistic at times and I'm ok with that 🤣
      Even though i think higher its still pretty low. All I know fore sure is thats its damned satisfying:-)

    The long-awaited video on follow-throughs was good - thanks! Those progressions make a lot of sense to practice. Can’t wait to dust off the board and get in some practice soon! I didn’t hear the secret pearl of wisdom though… “You’ve gotta want it!”

      glad you liked it. I eventually decided to take some pressure off myself and say, if folks have questions, comments, points of confusion we will do a 'follow up' on the 'follow through' :-) but wanted to give folks a starting place

    Indeed, this episode takes us a bit down the rabbit hole - which I like. Our group consider the Follow Through to be the Bugatti in Crokinole. Truly a highlight. Plus: Thx for the great Roy-Story! I think I´ve seen almost all of his matches that had been provided by Crokinole Centre. Roy´s a great player. I dig his style!

    Great drill. I sometimes am successful with certain shots, this one included. The other day I impressed myself with a ricochet peel from about the 9 and 12 o'clock positions.
    I have a question. Do you already have a video that describes your glossary of terms like "hit & stick", which is obvious, but other terms such as bump and run (and dang it, I can't think of others you've mentioned in the past).
    That might be a useful video for people to learn.
    In the meantime, have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!

      Yes, I've seen it in person and also posted many a times online. Here are my thoughts although there are no clear rules about this so it is definitely up for debate: th-cam.com/video/JwiXg0WESD8/w-d-xo.html

    Nice! Helpful drills. As I've started to hit a few more of these playing regularly over the last 18 months I've realized the same - it sort of just takes time to figure it out on your own and for things to click.
    Also - do you pay attention to your disc being flat side vs. rounded side when you're taking this shot?

    • @TraceyBoards
      @TraceyBoards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you liked it, have fun with the drills. Re: buttons... I probably should pay more attention than I do. I guess if I notice it causing me trouble I pay more attention or if it is a tough shot I stop and give myself every advantage I can. If I need extra drift or action after the hit it goes flat up. If I really want to hit and stick it is flat down. Best practice is probably flat down every shot unless the situation calls for something different.

    Jeremy-- I just want you to be aware that visualization techniques aren't 'spiritual' or 'esoteric.' They're tested and proven to be very effective for honing any skill: athletes, musicians, and craftspeople do it all the time. Don't be afraid to recommend it!

    • @TraceyBoards
      @TraceyBoards  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. 🤣 I do agree 100%. This video was less scripted than normal so that wasn't a planned line, it just came out. And I think its because I have been teased about reading and talking about things like Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr Maxwell Maltz which is a bit of a mind bend 😆 and thats just the tip of my esoteric iceberg. I enjoy my essential oils, exogenous ketone, red light therapy, ice baths, meditation, ground mats, qi gong, ion foot detox and so much more. So, self proclaimed weird :-) when I miss a shot someone will say "unlucky" and I say "I dont believe in luck, if I shot it differently it would have ended differently." I dont beleive in luck because I have no control over it, how I shot i do have control over. Luck feels very victimy to me. I know that's not how its meant but words are powerful.
      I even believe in personal responsibility 🤣🤪

    I agree that a follow though 20 is more of a push but it's tough to do it consistently so you're right about practicing drills to get more consistent. I use my middle finger to shoot and push the disk. I find for me a middle finger push is more centered and better for me at least to be more consistent. I also use the flat side of the disk down as I feel the shots are more predictable.

    • @TraceyBoards
      @TraceyBoards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      we will test this out in person soon enough :-)

  • @Zerpersande
    @Zerpersande 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The idea of visualization shouldn’t remotely be thought of as spiritual/esoteric. Almost all of the great golfers use visualization techniques. Studies have shown that visualization only can have positive results that rival actual practice. And given your own opinion of visualization techniques, and your own success as a player, it seems the techniques also work for Crokinole.

    • @TraceyBoards
      @TraceyBoards  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. That part of the video wasn't scripted, it just kinda came out. I believe that most if not all successful athletes use it in some way even if they don't call it that or realize it at the time. :-)
