In golf, we say drive for show, putt for dough. What is the equivalent saying in crokinole?

Prediction from a Yank across the pond who has never played a single match: if Santa paid attention to my wishlist, there's about to be a whole lot of Crokinole happening at our house. Furthermore, I fully expect our average daily Moxy Früvous intake to skyrocket as well 🤞

I was at Worlds in 2023. In singles, I was doing quite well, having scored at least 2 points in all my matches and most at least 4 points. Then, in the last round, I came up against Arpad. He put every single disk exactly where he wanted it, and I couldn't do a damn thing! He gave me my only skunking of the tournament.

2025 will be the year of the Spider! ;)

If your playing in a Senior Citizen's Center with 9 spectators can you really say its a World Champuonship?

Our crokinole league in Nova Scotia offers a cash prize for a perfect round. We call it "8x $20s for 8x 20s". No one has claimed the $160 payout yet, but we did have a couple of "7x 20s" so far!

The thing is that the wax powder isn't wax at all. It's a mix of tiny silicone beads and corn meal. So unlike rubbing the puck in actual wax, which would indeed transfer some wax to the puck, what exactly is being transferred when rubbing into the silicone bead/corn meal mix?

Wow! The sport is booming! I took my board to a pub in cork city Ireland the other night.. it was a big hit! A passing french director and actor came and played (film Festival in town), and loved it! Next step, THE WORLD!

That was fun to watch! its great to see competition at a bunch of different tiers. Watching Hutch and friends sink 20s all day gives you a false sense of how difficult this game really is. Well done and congrats to both teams! And congrats to Elena and Ethan. (edit)

Great game full of all types of shots and scenarios. Here are some I thought were worth calling out. 3:07 - Langill's decision to not go for the 20 surprised me too but there's a great shot of the board at 3:30 that shows the gap is larger. Still possible, but more variables, which you (probably?) want to minimize when you're in good position. 8:00 - "Unfortunately near-misses are a great opportunity for your opponent." Truth. I've been phrasing it as "the difference between an amazing shot and a terrible one is a millimeter." This round had a number of these, and highlights how difficult it can be to do the shots these guys make look easy. 12:08 - there should be a "whatcha gonna do, hammer?" series, and this should be there. It seems straightforward but it's a great example of how important hammer is. 16:09 - It's a simple shot but I'm impressed how smooth that half-hole takeout is, especially at that speed. I always thought you had to zip it across, that is amazing control. And Langill does it three times! 22:50 - I want to discuss this so bad. I believe Carrafiello meant to hit-and-stick, despite needing to bring play back to the center. I believe he intended to leave it in hopes of a decent angle-in, which allows the attempt without giving Hutch the open 20. Which is equal parts brilliant and gutsy if it's true. Mild Spoiler, they manage to bring it back, but in the wildest sequence of shots. 26:22 - WWJD? (the J stands for Jeremy) Up a 20, no hammer. Either shot - takeout and roll or touch 20 - seem reasonable here. The result wasn't great but that doesn't mean it was the wrong shot. My hindsight-armchair-amateur analysis? Touch 20. If he gets the touch right, Hutchinson can use it for his own 20. But I'm left-handed and have no cameras on me. 27:10 - Oh hey Garrett!
