This is one of my favorite videos of this build yet, I love the little projects and most people skip over them in their builds. The little things are so important to making the big things work right. Thanks man!

“I’m going to have tools scattered everywhere.” Said the man that spends how long looking for the last tape measure,or marker he laid down. Happy anniversary ! The build is not disappointing

My boys would use my home tools all the time. Once in a while I would be missing something, and I would say to myself, "darn kids". I would not even say anything to them, and then a day or two later, I would find the tool right where I left it. Then I would feel bad for blaming the kids even though I said nothing to them. Guilt is a terrible thing!

    • @dbmail545
      @dbmail545 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

My dad had the same problem with me. I had to leave a tool out and in sight for me to find it. They were like that for days on longer projects. Drove my dad to distraction and eventually padlocking his tool box.

@RollinRat There is a story about my handle. After I retired from 45 years as a heavy equipment mechanic, I needed something to do. I have always wanted to build a street legal dune buggy. After I had the frame and running gear made I took it down to have it titled. The DMV Inspector said that he could not do that. It would have to have all of the stuff that new cars had. Crash tests, crumple zones, air bags, etc! I said "there are T Buckets running all around."
He replied, "a T bucket I can title." So I built an off road T Bucket. I met a man on the internet that lived in St George that built hot rods. He helped me sooooo much. The finished product is unlike any T Bucket I have ever seen. He looked at all of the pictures that I would send him as I built this beast, and he said that I should name it the "RAT". Radically Altered T. Since I built it, I am the Ratbuilder. A few weeks ago I trailered it down to Hurricane and drove it all around. I also drove it up to Torquerville Falls while I was down there. I made it with no problems at all.
The high point of my trip was that I met Paul, Matt, Rudy, Ed, and the guy that helped me so much during my 3 year build. (I don't know if he wants his name out on the internet) It was an awesome trip, and I want to go again.
I miss my Dad too. He was an automotive Mechanic/Service Manager for all of his life. I wish that he could see my beast.

@RollinRat That story rang so true for me as well. I started working on cars and planes with my dad holding the light then got to wrench the hard to reach places and eventually as he aged the tables turned and he would work along helping me. He did so until he was 93 and passed when he was 95. I have a picture of our plane and him out in the garage side by side. I look at it and talk to him when alone in the garage. I am 72 and still miss him.

"I never got anything new & shiny!" That is why we can all relate to Paul & love to watch him make something out of nothing. I tell the Grand children that all I had to play with was a stick with a nail in it & if I was lucky I might get a new stick or a new nail for Xmas.
I have never bought a new vehicle except for one highway truck that broke me. All my vehicles were put together from wrecks and auction "specials!" I always got a huge smile on when someone climbed into one of my 500km jalopies & thought they were riding in a brand new vehicle! Happy Thanksgiving Day from way up North!

Happy anniversary, you guys make a great team, and two areas we get to see it being showcased, through your kids, and careers. You’ve done a great job with both, and it’s no wonder why you continue to have great success. Wherever one of you falls short, you always have your other half right there to back you up. Everyone fall short sometimes, but everyone doesn’t have what the two of you share, that’s something special.
That being said, If the hair salon ever falls short on man power, Paul, DO NOT TRY TO HELP. It should be illegal throughout the entire country, for you, or Matt, to even 👀 at a pair of ✂️! LoL 🙏🏻🇺🇸

. Her laugh makes me smile even on bad days! You Two are awesome! So is Papa Dar. How I'd love to sit by the wood stove and hear his stores. Ok that was 3 things. Just saying you guys are amazing! Praying for you all to be blessed and well and safe!

Paul you have done some really nice fab work on that FJ. That raw look of the Drive lines, ORI’s and seeing the Headers through the fender wells looks great. When you was painting that rocker arena I was wondering if you ever used VHT Wrinkle Black spray paint not only does it look great it is a great protector i found out by trying to sand it off and ruined several disc’s.
Happy Anniversary to Michelle and you. You all make a great team.

Paul, it's so nice to be able to watch channels like yours, Matt's and Thercsailors and not have to listen to foul language. It's very much appreciated and you are very talented. Wish I lived a little closer to Hurricane so I could have you do some rocker repair on my 88 Pathfinder. Currently I'm letting my 81 year old mother use it but when I get it back I would love to get those done. Keep up the great episodes and love seeing you involve the family every now and then. Hope y'all had a fantastic Thanksgiving, take care and happy 19th anniversary!

You tapping out the card board took me back to middle 70s as a mechanic in the Army when. I was 20 then I'm 68 now. Lol. Rarely was the time when we had gaskets for the semi trucks when we removed the axle(s) and put them back. We mechanics would grab a vanilla yellow folder and tapped out the pattern on the differential housing
Tap one out slide the axle shaft through the middle and bolt on the axle to the differential. Always worked.

I worked with a friend in his Dad's shop. Every tool had to be put away in the right place, clean and sharp, if necessary, which meant I had to learn how to sharpen bits and things. If I broke a tool, I had to replace it. But I did get the use of a fully tooled shop. Looking back, I wish I had learned more.

At last, Paul you gave me the answer to how to install a propshaft. I have always fitted the slip joint close to the gearbox/transfer box. But, doing it with the slip joint closer to the diff makes a lot of sense. It can take much more beating in severe off road work and being beaten up in the rocks 🪨.

I have to smile every time I watch your videos. It reminds me of my father who would build what he wanted from what was around. He was farm raised in a semi-desert area of Saskatchewan Canada in the 1930's and went out and challenged/wrote his journeymans after working for a journeyman mechanic for 1.5 years. He said his father taught him as much as that journeyman did.

Congratulations on your anniversary! Y'all didn't get here by accident. Keep up the good work. TBH, the interactions between Paul and Michelle were why I subscribed. Oh, and the FJ looks amazing too.

When Pail was looking at those ories and said I"I never have anything new" it reminded me that was the story of my life when I was young. All my parts were bought from friends or swap meets.

Something i came across to stop the rust coming back in the sills is 3M cavity wax. It comes in large aerosol cans. They make an accessory kit with 3 different length nylon hoses.. The nozzle on the end of the hoses are small (3/16?) so you don't have to bore big 3/8 holes in everything. It works. then all you need are some plastic plugs to fill the holes.

Honestly, what you are doing is really great. Respect and all alone, great performance. Laugh, when I think that 35 - 40 years ago, I had no plasma torch and just thin sheet metal welded everything with gas / oxygen and thicker with electrode, so you are 300% faster than we were then. If it is of any use to you, you must know for yourself:
We cleaned everything really thoroughly with a steam jet at the time downstairs, let it dry. A little warm up with the flame and primed the substrate with silicate primer. When it was dry, then sprayed twice with bitumen paint. It lasted for years in all seasons, and in winter too.
    Greetings from Frankfurt.

Ha saw your Milwaukee Shear and just ordered new Blades for mine that I just broke so yes your videos do help !!!!
Just a hint on Fuel cells Run a lift pump I have 4 pick ups in the tank so no matter the angle you will not Starve for fuel ! Run the lift pump to a SWIRL TANK then from the swirl tank to the Pressure Pump and regulator No matter how low your fuel is you will not run out fuel till you RUN OUT OF FUEL This is how GT3 GT4 and Proto type race cars set it up so no matter the G forces you will pick up fuel!!
