  • I decided to vlog the week where I was preparing for and running a multiple-day arbitration.
I'm one of those people that are always trying to strike a balance between my dedication and focus on my job and achieving excellence in all I do there, and trying to also live and enjoy my life by taking care of myself, doing the things that I love outside of my job, with people I love.
Arbitrations are different to going to Court in that there is no Judge, but a Commissioner who runs the arbitration much like a Judge. Nowadays most arbitrations are conducted virtually.
Personally, I find arbitrations as rewarding as they are demanding due to all the evidence that you have to go through and lead, as well as all the preparation and consultations with witnesses etc. It takes over your entire life (in a good way..) and if you have one that runs into days and weeks and months, you must take care to maintain balance with all other aspects of your practice and life.
I love dinners with friends and colleagues, dining at Signature restaurant on the Friday evening with colleagues, getting to attend the most incredible live concert with a fun group of my friends, dancing the night away at Untitled Basement in Braam and then enjoying meaningful conversations over a delicious Sunday brunch were just the sorts of wholesome activities that I needed after a most grueling and demanding week.
And so I hope that in watching this vlog you walk away with a feeling that everyone's idea of what a reasonable work/life balance looks like is different, but it remains crucial that you find it, and that you try to achieve it at every turn.
I think you'll find that once you put certain systems in place to remain consistent in constantly aiming at this balance, you will be a more effective and happier young professional adding value to your workplace and a happier and more present person for your friends and loved ones.
I'd be happy to hear in the comments what your favourite part of this vlog was!

New subscriber this side… and you don’t know how much I needed to hear those wise words you shared about feeling resistance… currently studying for my notary and conveyancing exam and contemplating on opening a law firm and I’m just feeling so much resistance as if I’ll fail.
Your vlogs give us so much motivation ❤
