I fell in love with the ocean when I served in the USN, 1971-75, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, from Key West to Sardinia Italy... Mid-Atlantic, watching the sunrise.. enough to make you cry, the beauty...
Thank you for your service! God Bless you and your family! Damn ,can't get enough of Jimmy! Been in love since my first look!1885! My dream ,to live on a boathouse, in the keys!
Always been one of my favorites too, Cap'n. In my mind I can still see the evening view from the bridge, watching the last limb of the sun disappear beyond the Caribbean horizon, and feeling her pure peace. Thanks for sharing.
I just heard this for the 1st time. Love it. Reminds me of my youth standing of the Pascagoula or Gulf Shores pier or the Biloxi jetty and watching "the sun go down off toward New Orleans".
I remember buying a Jimmy Buffett "Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes" cassette when I was stationed in Mayport Florida on USS Saratoga,, back when you could drive on the beach, I had a 67 Econoline Van, I was livin the beach bum life, thanks Jimmy :)
i have a lot of photos of the Sara along the way from RI to TX, the pilot of the tug was communicating to the Sara FB page,, even had a drone do a take off and landing from the flight deck,, miss that old boat
Did a couple of Med cruises between 72 and 75. Sara always relieved us in the Straits of G. Once we were in dry dock next to the Sara in Portsmouth. I came back from liberty really drunk and went onboard the Sara by mistake. Didn't realize I was on the wrong boat until I got to my rack, forward on the 02 level.
I used to listen to JB while a Sailor serving on the Deyo and Elrod, it used to drive the others nuts! It did inspire me go out and sail on my own boats and cross oceans on my own. Listening to the same ol' music, too.
@wildebeest3 I was lucky enough to have a captain that was a parrothead and would play Jimmy over the 1MC while pulling into port and Cheeseburger In Paradise for the chow whistle every slider Friday. Great Times! Thanks for the comment and sail on sailor!
USS Chandler DDG 996, a great little modified spru-can. (Kidd class) Spent a few years in San Diego and then shifted home ports up to Everett, Wa where we decommissioned her in 1999. Great boat with a great crew. Thanks for the view and comments shipmate!
That ship sounds familiar..if you where here in SD in the 90' i probably saw the ship moored at 32nd st..I was stationed on the USS Cowpens CG 63 the "mighty moo" as they call it that's the ship i retired from. Best wishes shipmate
J Holstr: We may have been in Mayport at the same time. I served on your sister ship, USS Forestall. Separated in 75 ended up living in the Keys for the next 17 years. I ran into Buffett at Alabama Jacks once. He wasn't performing, just fishing, and a tad drunk. Then again, so was I
This is a powerful coincidence: I was a plankowner in USS Chandler (DDG 996) and a huge Buffett fan at the time, and this song meant a lot to me during the precommissioning period and the year following. I painted the compass rose from Changes in Latitudes on our stateroom door about the time of commissioning. Do you have a connection with Chandler?
No footage of the aircraft carrier Cvn uss enterprise. She was decommissioned and is now being disassembled. I hope someone told her "Thank you for your service. "if you ask a designer it's just a mass of metal and circuits a gathering of electrons. But ask someone who sails with her... And she's much more".
The pic of the carrier-battleship group is of CV-61 Ranger and BB-63 Missouri was taken in the Indian Ocean late 1987. When the pic was taken I was 2 decks below the flight deck of Ranger, immediately aft of the island! VMA(AW)-121 Green Knights OORAH!

@@jona.874 - you might have been in st.4, they shot scenes up on deck with some of the ships crew. The scenes up on deck when Pavel chekov is trying to escape.
@@danielmarinucci9342 No, I wasn't aboard when she was in at North Island... my squadron was based at El Toro, about an hour's drive up the coast in Orange County, so we always went back then.
You may try putting on a plastic pig nose and dancing in the street for the coins that people will throw at the sewer and watch you try to catch them while they laugh at you. Stay gold, Pony
Saw a vid in Florida where Buffett is trying to record Cheeseburger. He having trouble getting the hand claps right, funny as shit. He's really drunk and keeps saying, "Can't we do the hand claps later?" It's the one where they drive from Largo to Key West stopping at every bar for a drink. Can't find it anywhere on the web. Anyone know the name of this vid?
Jimmy is one of the richest rock stars? how is this ROCK? This ELEVATOR BACKGROUND noise we heard when going to a Rock concert. This is for people that wish they could get into rock music.
This is the song I can easily imagine the restless sailor loved by Brandy sings to explain himself to her.
A little-known Jimmy Buffett song and a beautiful tribute to the mighty ocean...One of my favorites!
Jimmy Buffett, Sarah Collins (UK) Four Tops, The king Elvis!. Memories of music that touched our lives! So many more! Keep sharing the music!

Jimmy Buffett made the endless days of steaming on Gonzo Station tolerable. Indian Ocean '79-'83, CGN-35.

Only reason id give up the infantry blue and be a sailor is listening to Jimmy's real love affair with the ocean! Sail on sailor(s)
