@JamesSmith-qs4hx Yes, I'm friends with the Promoter Karsten & have even had the pleasure of helping to unload gear for SRB before with the crew, Met them all several times BUT still never heard a full playthrogh of Grendel, this was bucket list stuff
@mpspuij Hopefully it will happen for you one day bud, I'd just about given up myself, seen Fish, SRB & Marillion live multiple times & still this was the first time, SRB are amazing at playing Incubus also
Tell your uncle that he sounds better than the old tapes with Fish. If that causes backlash, oh well. He has a very nice voice, I like the way he sang Pseudo Silk Kimono!
@cmgwstudios4113i will! him and Steve were in the Malta 🇲🇹 Sunday Post...I'm gonna get Steve to sign a black squier for me ....Martin sings in 3 bands ..".still marillion "...maiden scotland ....and Steve rothery band ! ¹
One of the songs that was the foundation for Marillions success. I watched tribute band Mr Punch playing it in London last year, and they nailed it. It got the biggest cheer of the night.
Martin Jakubski's vocals are a treasure, as Steve Rothery knows all too well. It's sad he's started to lose some of his powerful range. But he still does sound fantastic.
Same. Im in that Edinburgh crowd for Margaret, hogmanay. Great memories. But Straws era Marillion still the absolute tops for me. Those gigs in 87 were off the charts. Fish at his absolute pinnacle. In my opinion of course.
They performed it in a 1985 tour- I saw them at Newcastle City Hall. Someone else commenting here also saw them perform it at Hammersmith Apollo the same year.
Saw Marillion the first time they played Hammersmith Odeon (April '83?) and they did this as the first encore, even then it was unusual to play it. The emotion of finally selling out and playing Hammersmith got them going I think and I'm fairly sure it was the only time they played it on that tour? We were right at the front. It was a fantastic gig and the crowd was insane. I used to go to Hammersmith almost every week for a few years and it was one of the greatest crowd responses I ever saw there. Also remember Fish's rambling and funny stories between songs. Market Square Heroes, Garden Party and Forgotten Sons and Margaret also highlights but the whole show was amazing.
@progman78 I see it as the END of Prog-Rock era..i mean i love very much "Grendel" best song Marillion ever produced! early 80's ....Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, were playing another kind of music..VDGG, Gentle Giant, ELP...dead!!
My guess would also be that they simply forgot to, since they hadn’t played this for several years. They spent the entire soundcheck playing through each bit of the song section by section.
@@cpteurope That does not indicate anything. I’ve been in bands for over 30 years and a song like this needs rehearsing, even for “professional” musicians. An afternoon rehearsal is no preparation for a concert.
Неплохо, но недостаточно эмоционально, голос и манера исполнения Дерека, пронизывали до костей! Стив, как всегда, сосредоточен и внимателен к деталям. Лучшая песня Мариллион эры Фиша.
The entire MISPLACED CHILDHOOD played at the same concert: th-cam.com/video/rT0Tb38SaOk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yW1xF045UUkQnRpi
Jumped here from there ❤ Appreciate the upload 👍
You’re very welcome my friend ☀️
Grendel was and still is a fantastic tune
And a very good singer!
Great song!
41 years I've waited to hear this live..I'm right at the front of Steve, It was a banging show ✊️
What were you doing in Copenhagen? Did you go there specially for this?
I am jealous 😉 Never saw it played live.
41 years..jesus

That takes me back! I remember Marillion playing this live at the UEA Norwich around 83' I guess. Magical times! Oh to go back ....

I saw mr in germany too, very umpressend by guitarplayer Marcella arganese
I saw Mr Punch last night at The Underworld.. yes, they nailed it

Brilliant awsome epic !!!!
The singer sounds A LOT like Fish! I’m digging that!
Amazing song. Amazing talent. Amazing performance. Amazing.
Couldn't say it any better, maybe an Awesome in there. Just wish someone in Marillion knew US exists except to get on cruise ship.
Love Grendel...........
That ending solo.. my god, the childhood memories. The chills up my spine.
...🦉...
Juste ⚖️ fantastique 👍 BRAVO 👏 et MERCI 🎩 from 📡

Last saw this live in 1983 - 40 years ago!

Great Cinema!🤗
Lucky bastards, he teased this in Zoetermeer last week. Said he'd have to do it there next year. I'll be waiting.
didn't even know they were there. I live 20 km from there. Very disapointing, I have to keep an eye on this. Love Grendel.
Fucking brilliant!!!
Great filming & performance, thanks for sharing

La mejor Lado B, de todos los tiempos
Steve Rothery, unfassbar zeitlos gut 🤘
Fantastic job. Only seen the Rothery band once, in Glasgow. They did 3 boats....., was awesome. This gig must've been an absolute treat.
grandios...danke
first saw Marillion in early 84 when they'd stopped playing Grendel, would have loved to have seen this live, thanks for posting 👍

Una canción realmente hermosa.
Yeah, but listen to the lyrics😅
Riccardo romano vu à nice venait de finir ce tour avec srb que de souvenirs avec grendel
❤amazing
Saw them do this at Hammersmith Odeon in 1985
🖤
It's 'hooked me'.
The grand master of neo prog!!!!!

:D Krisse&Markku 😎🌹
Grendel This actually became a drink Marrillion got pissed on.
Does anyone know why they missed out a part of the song?
Perhaps forget to play it 😅😅
My guess would also be that they simply forgot to, since they hadn’t played this for several years. They spent the entire soundcheck playing through each bit of the song section by section.
It was an artistic choice by Steve to slightly abridge the track. We didn't "forget" to play a section as has been suggested.
@@martinjakubski7570 Are you the singer? Congratulations! You are really good !!!
@gonzchi Yes I'm the singer. Thank you for your kind comments.
Why skip the first solo ?! Aw man.
marillion ne l a plus jamais rejoué !!
Wow!!! Do i feel cheated!!! Saw them the 8th and 9th in Zoetermeer NL and they didn’t play this one: “we don’t know how to play it, next year!” 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
They rehearsed it all way through during the afternoons soundcheck in Copenhagen. Indicating they hadn’t yet learned it on beforehand.

Drummer needs to do his homework
Actually from what I hear he is playing it close to Mick Pointer's style so more towards the original I think.
Blatant Genesis rip off
Brilliant Genesis rip off!
FTFY
Grande Riccardo 💪
Well done. But the vocals could be more emotional. You could feel emotions when Fish was singing .....
