Best thing is to keep driving without stopping. Because Srilanka has around 8000 plus elephants. If you stop and wait what will happen nother heard of elephants come from behind. Elephants are very smart animals, they can feel the smell from very far . Very intelligent.
If anyone driving along rds with wild animals they have to be fearless and self strong . If you stop and wait close to them that is asking for trouble. You got to be very silent.
If you keep making noises animals will get scared and become verry aggracive . Locals are quite use to these situations. And know how to avoid trouble.
Small vehicle always has to cover behind big vehicles if elephants are middle of the Rd.
Anyway thanks God you make it without any incident.

They’re not trying to attack. They’re there because vehicles give them food. When an elephant is looking for food, it can accidentally flip over a tuk tuk or a bike.
That’s why officials there ask people not to give food to wild elephants.

Usually if you are in ac3wheeler the buses will protect you they usually buffer you ..
Luckily those elephants were in good mood, just chilling and greeting people 😀

We really wanted to when we visited but unfortunately it was right in the middle of the crisis and fuel was very hard to come by! We still had an amazing trip though!

The reason behind elephants are on the whole day is food. People started throwing fruits to them, now they ( elephants) are got used to it. That’s become easy way of finding food rather than walking miles all over the jungle daily.
However this kills natural habitat of the elephants and led to many issues.
Even they attack when you don’t offer them food.
Never feed wild animals
Anyway it was adventurous journey and drone clips were amazing

Be safe bro. Dont slow or stop when you see that elephants. Go forward normaly and fast..if you slow or stop your vehicle, elephants got a crazy. They attack to motor bikes and tuk tuk usually

The main issue with that "Elephant road" (Buttala - Kataragama road ) was created by initially dumb locals started feeding these wild elephants and tourists joined feeding those for their social media contents.
We are trying to educate people not to feed these elephants as this road goes through a national park (Yala) and these are WILD animals, they have abundant of food in the park. Initially there was one elephant in the road which probably had figured out by being calm standing by the road, he could get more food.He was cool as a cucumber and has good temperament. Elephants are social animals so he was followed by many elephants claimed their spots along this road. The issue is, not all the Eles know how to behave ( just like humans) Some are short tempered, attack oncoming vehicles if not fed. Tuk tuks, small cars, and vans (coaches) are most vulnerable for attacks ( these are the vehicles of choice for most tourists and traveling locals.).Now the question is who dies first? Man or elephant. Only time will answer.
Please help us to share this message among tourists as well. " DO NOT FEED WILD ELEPHANTS or wild animals " It is not good for their health and safety.

It was very dangerous. People throw foods and fruits to animals on the roads so that now they are searching every vehicles. Those elephants are not thinking to harm you but due to their strength tuk tuks are very unsafe vehicles. By the way good luck for your journey and we are very interested to watch your videos. As you have visited both India & sri lanka, can you make a video about your experience of similarities and differences of India and Sri Lanka?

As a Sri Lankan even I have used that road only once, in my 4x4. And I followed a CTB bus, (red color buses) all the way as a shield. You guys really in an another level to do this in a tuk tuk. 😅

This looks nerve wracking. Just when i thought that this road looks perfect for cycling, the table turned around. I'm astonished that they have got so many elephants in Srilanka. Here in Pakistan one can only find elephants in zoo that too are very old.

Ella was a great place but has been destroyed by over development which has pushed the locals out ,now full of burgers/pizzas etc,beats me why anybody wants to eat that kind of stuff when the local food is great.
Try Haputale-on the train line,unspoilt ,not that many tourists,authentic SLanka rather than Ella which is just a tourist ghetto.
i think it's all that caffeine and sugar that got you on the B35. #Visitsrilanka
