mechanical injectors .. such simple , yet beautiful engineering , and when stripped down you can understand why clean diesel is so important .. thanks for the lesson Mike
The answer to why they no longer use such nozzles is very simple. That's why we don't use pure french fry oil. 😉
Cheers King Mike. 🥃
Great point!
Hi Mike 👋 just saying thanks again for sharing this video update and information oh yes playing catch again.👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🚌🚌🚌
No problem 👍
Rudolph Diesel invented one of the greatest engines of all time.
Thanks Mike - excellent tutorial.
I too have always wanted to know the nitty gritty of how diesel injections work.
Cheers
It was Herbert Akroyd Stuart that fired up the first compression ignition engine In Bletchley in England, 1886/7, before Diesel, but for some twist Diesel gained the credit

Interesting story - there used to be a marker on the wall of the original site - it was the old Co-op building when I saw it 30+ years ago
@@BritannicaRestorations Hmm..quite interesting. Seems often the case with the big discoveries - 2 or more people working on a similar concept at the same time.
Like Edison and Tesla.
Thank you so much for this explainative video! It's so good! I have these in my good old, but dying, GM Bedford Diesel 330M. Unfortunately, these injectors will no longer come out.
Brilliant explanation. I never knew they were that simple. That is the thing with good engeering design, solving a complicated problem with a simple design that can be mass produced.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce these videos. Looking forward to the TDi injectors.
Graham
Glad you liked it

Good video it's all about seeing the big picture thanks Danny
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent tutorial! Thanks Mike.
Glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial Mike
A bit difficult to explain!
Mick if my tutor was half as good as you on explaining things I would not be scratching my head bald,
Hi Mike, great explanation mate, shame they don't still make tolerance injectors. Brilliant. Regards Banjo.
Thanks 👍
Genius - thank you.
Glad it helped!
for those interested, section 19.60.08 of the series 3 workshop manual has some partial crossectional drawings of the nozzles
Super interesting and clear as a glass of Jameson on a Sunday afternoon! Thanks Mike!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I learned a lot today :) Thank you
Great!
Once again Mike, very well explained operation and assembly of the CAV injector.
I was taught to resurface the caps only on a small surface plate using the finest diamond lapping compound. Needles to nozzle with Jeweller's Rouge'.
"Oh my aching fingers"
That was easy - trying to explain clearly how the Bosch 2 stage pencil injectors (2/300Tdi) is another story - done it twice now!
Excellent tutorial on the mechanical injector!
Thank you very much!
Outstanding! I super appreciate all of the time you put in to these videos…exactly why I’m subscribed! Cheers Mike!
I appreciate that!
If you change just the nozzle without disturbing the spring setting, which I have done in the past. Make sure the pintles are located properly before tightened it down because you'll damage the nozzle, which is also what I have done in the past..
Thanks Mike I am putting together a series 2a diesel at the moment. Very informative your videos on the injection system, now I can crack on with confidence 👏 👌
Good luck!
the nozzle tip are meant to be flat that needle has hammered it
Very good sir
Thanks and welcome
Just in the process of testing and sorting my VW LT35 SDI injectors...was suffering from fairly violent end shake and 'knock' so it seemed. Anyhoo, bought one of those testing things and two out of the five weren't right...the fourth cylinder(out of five) was very bad indeed....so have had them both in the oven cleaner and some carb cleaner for the ultrasonic cleaner...can't use that..its fallen apart inside..cheap shi7..all this becasue I watch and folow someone who knows stuff and things...Cheers Mike hopefully I won't have to send one away to be fixed...might get a couple of nozzles anyway..
This is beyond helpful (and timely, as I'm about to pull my injectors tomorrow). Would my 2 1/4L run at 137bar, too?
I would think so
Great video Mike - can you clean that one up as a project and see if you can get a great spray pattern ?
I have done it on a previous video
Enjoyed that Mike. Edge of my seat for the Bosch 200 tdi/300tdi version…. are those two different or interchangeable?
Four thousand RPM? The old girl would probable get there but I would be deaf very quickly.
Lovely explanation, especially the self lubrication, is that why injectors fail when people put petrol in, instead of diesel?
Yes, and they may burn the nozzles out with the higher temperature
How good pressure this injector?
137 bar
sure wish I knew where to get original CAV nozzles for 10-12 quid. Everything I can find has them running about $70 us each. Plus shipping. BDLL150S6600. Chinese running $50 for 4.
Well that was 9 months ago - things are going crazy now
