Super good subject and demonstration
Absolutely excellent, this solves lots of headaches. Cheers.
Glad it helped!
really good video , thank you, I need to fit 4 to my 2.5.
Glad it helped
Interesting stuff. Looking forward to seeing you test, strip and service 200tdi injectors 😬👍. All the best Mike
Awesome job Sir 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Superb. The idea of actually testing something scientifically and finding a measurable (and important) difference is so good, yet so rarely done! Now we know!
Thank you!
Great video. Buying a pop tester for CAV injectors was the best thing I did. You learn so much about the quality of your injectors. I found that the needles in mine were sticking due to be laid up and the water in the diesel slightly corroding the nozzle. Ended up buying new nozzles and setting the pressures myself. Never trust any 'refurbed' injectors, many tend to be old ones just spray painted black.
Sadly, not many engines use these now
Really good
Glad you think so!
the old CAV stuff is the best...full stop Just ask anyone with an old Perkins diesel. They get the job done!
knew it .. that military 2.5 NA traumatised Mike so much he's having flashbacks .. lol
I wouldn't let it lie!
Love the video. I did my apprenticeship 2008. We learned all that fun stuff .common rail injector you need your scanner to code the injectors, common rail 😭injectors you need to send out anyway . 🍺🍺
Thanks for the info!
To reduce the diesel fumes when testing, I use a glass pickled egg jar over the ends of the injectors. You can still see the spray pattern through the glass and collect the diesel to reuse in the tester.
Will try to find one - I hate pickles..
I bet the eggs taste like crap afterwards though...
Super
Thanks
This was a great video. You are an ace problem solver.
Mike you can replace the nozzle and needle quite cheep.
Very good experiment. I'm always learning about things from your videos. You missed the Kylie reference at the beginning though 😉
Great point!
I can feel your excitement.
If they were the injectors in the short video, then the pump can deliver 195 bar of pressure.
Why the miss fire? Possibly less volume of fuel from the 195 bar injectors, compared to CAV, and the pump takes more time to reach the higher pressure so the timing is slightly off for cylinders with the non-CAV.
An interesting set up, driven injector pump with 4 injectors and measure the volume over a given time.
Cool
Amazing video as always, to anyone doing this themselves, I think it's worth pointing out the care needed with where you hold the injectors when undoing the pressure lines on the test rig, as its very easy to inject diesel at hundreds of psi into your body, which can lead to an afternoon out at the undertakers.......but hopefully not , best to learn from others mistakes........
It is the tip of the nozzle that will inject, not the pipe connector - the pressure will be dissipated quickly as it is low volume once disconnected
@@BritannicaRestorations. Hi , my transit 2.5 tdi…….I’ve managed to damage the leak off sleeves so I’m looking for a supplier. Can you advise ? Thanks.
Please do more 2.5 na videos!! 👌🏻
I do not see that many here
I have got engines hot then ajusted injectors running engine when thay are poor and cleaned needles with brasso
Trouble is with the Chinesium injectors Mike, depending on how well the needles, springs and caps are made and also from what they're made, they may go "off song" very quickly. From my experience the CAV stuff was made of good gear.
Hi a think you have solved my issue with a Chinese scooter injector baskets wondered why my injector was not fireing fuel
Wot can I do to lessen the pressure on a Chinese injector
Crack off the big nut and take off the spill return pipe fitting - inside is a screwdriver slot to adjust pressure - highly recommended you have them set at a shop or on a pop tester to make sure they are all even
I've got to have the four injectors from my newly purchased 2010 BMW 320 diesel as one or more of them sound like something clockwork between 1000 and 1500rpm. I'm gonna guess the fix won't be as simple as those CAV injectors.
And not as cheap!
I remember that video 👍
Brilliant 👍what is the thread/nut size of nut going onto the injector please.👍
Not sure
How'ya Chris
Me tiny t'is 1/2 BSP (?)
Bring on to a good local Agricultural Spares Supply Shop
They should have pidgin hole boxes of all kinds and shapes of bolts nuts etc
How could I test 300tdi nosles at home no special tools. 😉
Cheers King Mike. 🥃
Good question!
How are they performing when heated 100C or back pressure from the compression? Production tolerance? Is the adjustment tight, or will it wobble off with vibrations?
Sorry Mike, I am not having this.
What you are trying to suggest is that China with all it's famous quality control, is sending out products that aren't calibrated correctly. No, no, no.
Lol! I was wondering why the Britpart ones were defective from 4 years ago - I mean, how much simpler can you get than a CAV injector!?
Would be really interested in your opinions of putting 2.8 injectors into 300tdis which seems to have become "a thing". Will your Patreon money stretch that far?! Fourby sell them.
I no longer offer any 'tuning' information (other than adjusting the pump timing a few mm) due to liability, so I cannot say
Just a question on reinstalling the injectors, I can’t seem to refit mine even if I hit them with a soft hammer, or if I try to press them in by tightening the two retaining bolts. Any suggestions?
You have the correct sealing washers?
@@BritannicaRestorations think so, they fit well on the end of the injector and in the head. Could it be the engine on a compression stroke?
Doubt it...
@@BritannicaRestorations all right, I’ll try cleaning the head out more in case there’s something obstructing it. Thanks for the response
Not even relevant for my Puma, but still interesting 🤔
So, when you buy Chinese injectors they should come with a test rig.
Can you imagine the wayward calibration of that rig.
@@michaelnaughton1393 Can I ever!
A-UP,fella you really should have an apprentice,to pass on this knowledge onto
Yeap, but too late now
