Hi folks I feel I should pin a comment. I’m in no way reviewing this card as a recommendation to go out and buy. It’s more of a what can it do if you just happened to stumble across one in the wild. Yes 3GB isn’t recommended in 2024 I know that but will it get you by? Answer yes in my opinion! It’s a better card than the 1650, 1050ti etc and will play lighter/esports titles completely fine. If you’ve got £200 please go and buy an RTX3060 and not 4 of these as door stops 😁
I retired my 8 year old R9 Fury (4GB HBM for 1440p...) 3 weeks ago for a 7800XT whilst keeping my i6700K. Yes, games were still running, it just was not pretty with an increasing problem frequency lately (e.g. fps break downs in Palia, a game not exactly known as a graphical firework).
That’s exactly the point I was trying to put across! I think most people have taken the review as a recommendation. 3GB clearly isn’t enough but perfectly good for the above 😎
If you are playing point and click games yeah sure. Have fun. Seriously anything 5 years old or older would likely play fine on it. Game developers are more interested in making a pretty picture than making a fun game anymore.
Have a look at how much it would cost to change to an i7. Haswell i7s are now pretty cheap and from experience the hyperthreading and extra cache make a big difference.
@@andystech101 It would indeed. The 970 I have is the 'Inno3D iChill GTX 970 HerculeZ X4 Air Boss Ultra'...hell of a name. The 1060 3GB I had got put in a flip because not only was it a newer card but also because the 970 just looked so cool.
@@andystech101 not everywhere bro! in greece they ask for this piece of turd almost 100euros. I bought a p106-100 and a p104-100(gtx1060 and 1070 mining equivilents with 6 and 8gb) for 20euros each. just to play alan wake 2 the p106(1060) is far better than p104(1070) because sadly p104 is limited to pciex4 within the chip while p106 isnt.
I'll give my 570 4gb to my brother. I could give him my spare 3050 8gb instead , but he only plays Valorant , and GtaV. 570 should be more than enough.
I ended up getting two gtx 970s for 40 bucks for my family members r7 1700 PC and found that even though it was slightly slower than the 1060 3gb I had, the 1 extra gigabyte made things like low end vr (roblox, HHHvr on potato, beat saber) and helldivers playable as there was simply more headroom. I legit dont miss that card
I had this exact same card but in the 6GB flavor. I generally recommend the RX 580 at this price point as it tends to perform a bit better. Either way, excellent video mate!
Cheers mate! It’s not I card id want again, sold 2 of the 4 on eBay and 1 has already failed, another died on me before shipping and got a part refund from eBay. The other 2 🤞🏼 I’ve had a dead 1070 and 1080 mini Zotac card before so maybe it’s a manufacturer fault where there cards just die after 4 years…. Gigabyte/Msi just seem to go on….
I honestly do wish i went for the 6gb version only problem is i live in canada so if i bought one it would atleast more than 140 which is bs i already had to pay atleast 120 for the 3gb one
Would probably have been a better bet. I really wasn’t recommending this card in the video it was a kind of if you have to can you make do. Thanks for the comment really appreciate it 🙏🏼
@CH1LL-BL1TZ unreal engine 5 kind of killed most of these older titles and Starfield is a good example… I still can’t see how those textures are so demanding but I guess it’s just shit development as you said.

I think it’s still a great eSports card, I mean you can still buy new a GTX1630 🤦🏽 why you would as this will out perform it. It’s def getting long in the tooth now though.
Can you retest Fortnite and find a DMR with the 3X(?) scope? I just built a gaming PC to give a neighbor's kid with some spare parts I had lying around and an old Lenovo tower (would rather all the stuff gets used versus just turning to e-waste in my closets)- i72600 (max for this system- 4C/8T at 3.4 min seems to be ok still), 3GB 1060, 12 GB ram. The 12 GB is very close to being not enough today fyi. But what surprised me is that Fortnite played very well- except when going to and from the DMR X Scope. It causes a huge stutter! My stats showed both the GPU and CPU had some headroom (both at like 65% max with my settings on performance mode 900p). So I am curious if it's the GPU or the CPU causing those MASSIVE GAME BREAKING stutters when hard scoping. Heck, maybe it's the 12 GB of system ram? Came in #2 due to that stutter- hard to have a sniper showdown with such stutters. I did put Windows 11 on it... but that should not cause an issue afaict.
Have you download the pre streaming assets package when installing the game? It’s about 30GB and fixes most stuttering on the game. Also DX12 is better over DX11 I feel.
@@xzm996 But how? And all Windows 10 support goes away next year.. so Windows 11 will be the only option for online use soon. I use Rufus to install 11 on old hardware.
@@andystech101 Right now you can find these for 50 dollars, but by spending 20-30 bucks more, you could get a 5500 XT with 8GB of VRAM and up to 40% more performance. It's simply e-Waste.
I had this for several years and just upgraded to a 4060 a few months ago! Very good bang for your buck imo, it'll struggle a bit but you can easily play new games on low graphics 1080p. dlss 3 is great and will hopefully let my 4060 last many years

Have you repasted the card? The only other reason would be that it’s being choked in a case. You can also undervolt the card which will help.

Paired with a 4th gen i5 it works ok. Hell from my test there's many games where the i5 still bottleneck the 1060 anyways.
