Simple

      He's playing devil's advocate, he will always nearly be wrong as Simon is almost definitely right a lot of the time, or makes an argument so compelling it is to be believed.

    Simon's right. I don't think it was an issue of how but why. Bardsley was just as able to make the contact. My phone contract expired, though rather than waiting for them to call me and tell me what a good customer I'd been, I called them. Back in the day, probably into the 70s, players didn't need to wait for the retained list, they knew their fate by the state of their boots. The club would replace (or fix) a pair for a player who wouldn't be with them for the following season. Frankly I blame Kevin Keegan. He got upset by not getting a call to say he'd not been selected for a forthcoming England match. Neither had I, and it's taken around 40 years to break my silence - here and now - on this delicate matter. Perhaps that's why I'm hardened to this kind of thing.

    Bang on Simon Jordan, Really cannot see Jim White's point. Beardsley, by all accounts had a five year contract on £50k per week. Yet for whatever reason he played about 55 games over a five year period ! Burnley, must have being pig sick at having to service that contract ?

  • @Subho1981
    @Subho1981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well this is the first time I agree with Jim and disagree with Simon.
    It's a professional relationship between both the parties and both have equal professional responsibility.
    Burnley also have the responsibility to call the agent and update the termination of contract. It's that simple!!!

    Bardsley wasnt exactly an asset to Burnley...However surely just to get a 30 second phone call or letter of notice to say they aren't renewing isnt too much to expect. The club dont have to but it shows class.

  • @damiantosd8720
    @damiantosd8720 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    All depends on what the norm is in the prem league. If it’s normal to notify then notify if it’s not normal to notify then don’t. Nothing debate.

  • @MartinParnham
    @MartinParnham 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Kind of see both sides here. Not finding out from the club is a bit off but, if it was me and I knew my contract expired on x date then I’d assume it hadn’t been renewed unless I’d heard otherwise. Also, I’d probably have phoned someone (or got my agent to do it if I were a footballer…) to check in advance.

    Jordan’s right, what did Phil do at Burnley? With any line of work, you receive a contract you know when that contract is expiring, you start to ask questions about your future months before, gets what he deserves

    • @Ldoggmillionaire
      @Ldoggmillionaire 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Majority of other employers would at least make contact in advance to tell you, your contract won’t be renewed, you aren’t needed anymore and thanks for your service while you were under contract. Quick call

      A perfect way to find out if the player actually wants to be there.
      You want a class club, the players need to show in their actions that the club is class, in their opinion.

    I think that if anyone is to blame for the perceived slight, it's both parties. The club could be professional enough to contact him or his agent but he is an adult and I assume his agent is too so either one of them could have contacted the club.

    Simon is right in saying that Phil didn't find out he was being released from the group chat, because he knew he hadn't signed a new contract, but I do think that Burnley should clarify it out of courtesy.
