When I go to buy pellets I get 2 ton at a time and the loader always thinks I’m getting 1 and coming back, I say no load them both, they are always surprised when this truck barely squats, it’s a good old truck. 😀
4x4 would help, especially 4lo when maneuvering into place. That certainly took some life out of that tranny's clutch packs. I could smell them burning. Also. Block your frame/axle when doing this....keep it from sagging so much. Btw, there is nowhere near 3-4k in tongue weight. The position of the axles controls the tongue weight, not the size of the load. Unless there was stuff inside the trailer, that tongue is probably around 500-1000lbs.
@@AdventureAwaits1111 Yeah low range would help, I couldn’t smell any transmission burning and I was there, yeah I haul 2 tons of pellets at a time and it doesn’t sag that much, although the weight isn’t right on the back of the truck, tongue weight was much more than 1000 pound though, the home was loaded with furniture and tools and 1000 sq foot of tile but I moved it all back by the axles.
@@davidbaumgardner8374 obs chevy's is all I have owned for 20 years. 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and one ton. 4k lbs of tongue weight would have made it impossible to steer, and likely broken the hitch. That truck is rated 3/4 ton based on weight IN the bed, not behind the rear axle. Those hitches have a max weight of 1k lbs WITH weight distribution. You can move a trailer with a half ton, but you need to block the axle to protect the springs. I could be wrong, it wasnt weighed....but 4k in tongue weight is like putting another truck, on your hitch. I have squatted a 3/4 ton with 1200lbs. Of tongue weight. (Too much loaded in front of trailer) it squats 10ply tires too. I think based on the capabilities of the truck, this was nowhere near 4k lbs. tongue weight. We need a scale to know for sure 👍
@@AdventureAwaits1111it was all of 2000 or 2500 at least probably close to three of a tongue load in my opinion of course low range four wheel drive would have been the ticket but also remember the transfer case only has a chain in it that takes the load so there's that part yes it's seriously geared down but I don't think it's geared down before the chain ..
@@smsjr36 Yeah stopping distance is greatly increased and most likely non existent if you are going down any hill, these axles do have brakes on them but for flat ground and short distances I did not bother making them work.
@frugallandlord6974 normally most trucks will pull amazing loads if you just stomp on the gas, but its the stopping part that is usually the first to fall short. Im not saying its good for the truck but that it will pull the load. Short periods on an occasion like in the video wont hurt anything
wouldnt be as easy with a newer model seeing the new stuff is heavier. each half of my double wide had anywhere from 4 to 6 axles i would guess. i didnt get to see it at that point.

@ i would agree with you if I had to pull a longer hill, you could probably go 45 or 50 mph on flat land all day long this truck has 2 transmission coolers from the factory.
25 years ago I drove tow truck for about 10 years. My truck was a 2 wheel drive chevy 1 ton short wheel base with a 4 speed transmission and it ran on propane. I got a call to tow a fully loaded semi off the highway because he ran out of diesel. I pull up in front of him and he started to laugh. I get out of my truck and he said that POS is not going to be able tow this truck. I told him not to be so sure of himself. He was expecting a heavy to pull up and tow him across the highway. He said I will bet you $1000.00 you will not even be able to move my truck. I said deal, not really sure if my truck could move his but I was really stubborn and ignorant back then. So I hook my tow rope up to the front of his truck. The police had already shut down the cross lane of the highway so I can cross over. I shift my truck into low gear and make my attempt. I release the clutch and before you know it I was moving his truck. He crapped his pants when I pulled his fully loaded truck up to the fuel pumps so he could fuel up. I collected my $100.00 tow fee and my $1000.00 bonus and went on my way. I never ever did try that again because I let my ignorance and stubbornness get in the way of my job and that is never a good thing.
I would think so but I watched a video with a uhaul truck towing a mobile home and the front tires were completely off the ground a few times, it’s a lot of tongue weight.

Yeah it’s definitely expensive to get them moved professionally, I only move them short distance on my own, longer trips I hire a guy who moves homes on the side for a little extra cash.
I once moved a mobile home with a 1970 Ford f100 and if you move the front axle to the front as close to the trailer tongue as you can get you won't squat the truck as much.
@@danieljonhson6367 Yeah but you would have to weld brackets to mount the leaf springs to, that wouldn’t be very hard but I would only do that if I didn’t think my truck could handle it. Those old Fords are awesome 😀

I've had 3 of these trucks over the yrs and I would agree with the 4000 lbs of tongue weight based on the squat
@@davidbaumgardner8374 Yeah I was just judging by the squat also, but I believe it’s a close guess.

@frugallandlord6974 normally most trucks will pull amazing loads if you just stomp on the gas, but its the stopping part that is usually the first to fall short. Im not saying its good for the truck but that it will pull the load. Short periods on an occasion like in the video wont hurt anything
