    It's hard to beat Mayweather coz it's not just about philly shell defense ... He has this X factor that you just can't teach ... His defense mix with offense is beautiful to watch.

      His story?? He was coddled like a baby his whole life.His family of professional boxers trained him to do what they always failed to do but with a spin.They got him to the top so he could run his whole career and make money. They saw Ali making money his whole career off of playing the villain and did their own bootleg version of it with sorry azz Floyd.

      He doesn’t have an unbeatable defense. The fighters he fought didn’t do a great job of turning him and mostly went straight forward. And if he had to fight in the past before they allowed these mid/groin guards to be pulled so high to limit the mid-section target zone he’d be in even more trouble. Without question an all-time great but far from unbeatable.

      Their is a counter move to everything. Holding the head down only works if your opponent stands still. Also, if you’re not careful reaching for head control you can easily be countered by that back hand.

    Extreme, deep, offensive foot movement has always been the best tool against the shell. Many of its best practitioners happened to also have excellent defensive footwork, but extended patches of planted feet under fire is inherent to the style, which can be a major problem against someone with fast feet committed to taking extreme angles. Jones vs Toney and Loma vs Rigo, spring to mind. Sheer disruptive mauling physicality and colossal, almost mindless, volume can also muddy the waters quite well -- its tough to win rounds decisively if you are cocooned on the ropes for 2 minutes of every round.

    If possible can you do a breakdown on James Toney.

  • @aggnal2892

    They both used Philly Shell, but Gatti was getting got because:
    1) PBF way faster?
    2) AG can't read PBF?
    3) 1&2 combined?
    This breakdown is priceless btw

      Gatti just didn’t know how to attack the shell/shoulder roll just like 95% of the other Floyd opponents even tho Floyd showed us all. Some just didn’t have the footwork to do it. Much appreciated and thanks for watching fam!

    The pivots open up the outside of the lead hmmm, Floyd had great footwork with it if he was in the middle of the ring, where as if he was against the ropes he usually had them where he wanted them near the corner where they couldn't pivot or find an angle so therefore easier to defend, well played Floyd I've learned something today💯

    Samuel Peters vs James Toney. That's how. Many modern trainers don't know how, which is why Peters had to switch trainers to be taught how (Manny Mason).

    Nice job from Philly 💯

  • @headbone7293
    @headbone7293 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Maybe a overwhelming non stop offense could dismantle the Philly shell. Constantly attacking the left arm then moving in close and smothering any counter attacks (or smothering the, to a point where they do little damage). Also perhaps a unconventional style of fighting could work against the Philly shell? Constantly feinting to bait a counter punch and then countering that counter. But u dunno, not many fighters have the power aswell as the speed, patience or stamina to pull that off. But a power puncher with good stamina and a decent Chin could just keep pounding on that left arm

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That’s asking a lot! Maidana did have success going wild and wide with his punches over the top but against Floyd you’re going to get countered and you have to have the grit to take those counters and the stamina to keep going. Maidana had no answers when Floyd went conventional and used lateral movement with his jab. We know how to beat the shell, beating Floyd is another thing.
