      There's a difference with amateur boxing coaches and professional boxing coaches.
      Amateur boxing coaches teach you by the book. They're the old school types who drill the foundations of boxing into ya. They're good , but not all of them are qualified to coach a person in professional boxing.
      A professional boxing coach is more than just a coach who teaches you boxing. He studies the art of boxing , he's there to make you a better fighter by realizing your true potential. He teaches what suits you the most.

    Recently switched to boxing from karate, I am used to fight more sideways and this philly shell type of stance is working wonders for me in defense. I never would have thought that I could parry a boxers jab(always knew it was hard) when I was actively fighting in Karate type of tournements. Amazing stuff. Always thought this style of fighters were being just cocky not knowing anything about it. Now I know why they do bc this shit is working.

    Excellent. Been training for years and this stance has always come natural to me BUT I've just learned I haven't been doing it fully effectively (relying on head movement instead of bringing the right up to block). Got something new to practice in the gym now.
    Also respect to Fast Eddie Chambers. You were one of my motivations and probably the best shot of dethroning Klitcho during his domination

    • @fastlifebmx9292
      @fastlifebmx9292 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3 years late lmao , but instead of blocking or head movement, try using your hand to paw his hand/punch down and maybe some counterclockwise rotation; your shoulder will internally rotate if that helps the movement explanation. There is a name for this style of blocking but I forget. Its very natural for me and works very well for philly shell. Instead of just rolling the shoulder and taking the blow (specifically for non glove fighting) and cramping your delt up, You can even put your arm up bringing your elbow to eye level or whats comfortable as a block as you roll the shoulder.

    I mostly enjoyed using footwork and head movement as defense. Of course that uses more energy. Once I got comfortable with Philly Shell my confidence went through the roof. Countering from it was even better! It should go without saying to keep your eyes glued to your opponent and you get used to the additiinal contact right away. In fact I felt I could read my opponents movement better. Good stuff.
