I made this several times now, switched to roquefort to some less expensive danish blue. It IS as good as it looks or even better, the combination is amazing. I suggest everyone watching this trying it out, its not expensive and much easier to make than it looks!
I know im 10 years too late for this video, but I have become a massive fan of beet cooking. Specifically red beets for me. I love using for more sweet products, and have actually created some of my own recipe's from them. I even came up with the idea for a sweet red beet gravy that you can use to pour over Yam's or Squash. Such a versatile ingredient that is underappreciated.
I've made this twice (one pack of beetroot over two nights) and the balsamic beetroot and sesame is absolutely fantastic. But I've come to the conclusion that I don't much like Roquefort, and that kids would hate it. I think feta would be a good substitution so I'll try that, next time.
@ofdiscordia I understand but he did say they are pre-cooked and that they BAKE them, which I doubt as I have worked with beetroot and only boiling them produces as much juice.
I cooked this dish like 3 weeks ago for the first time and trust me, since that I did it literally like 7-8 times.its just amazing and its good with almost anything.well done
what are you talking about :S the ones in the package are pre-cook. If you buy it fresh, you have to cook it, and it takes a lot of time. And there is nothing wrong with buying the package one.
@FamilyOfMan1975 This segment is usually part of either his Cook-a-long Live show or The F-Word. Obviously, during Cook-a-long Live, he's working with a lot of home chefs so he has to modify what he might do (have his staff roast the beets) for home chefs cooking with him. Alot of people don't like to cook/don't know how to cook. No need to burden them with one more thing to do (roasting/boiling beets) and better to let them know that they can buy pre-boiled beets.
You are my inspiration for becoming a chef. I would love to one day work along side you. I am in the culinary program any tips on making a salad with beets and plating it?
I would say the main reason is it does very little to affect the flavour. That's the rule to all cooking: will this give me the best flavour? Precooked beetroot still tastes a hell of a lot like fresh baked beetroot.
The dish is about supporting and complimenting the beet flavour, though, not the cheese. Of course it's going to be a less than prime presentation of the cheese. You could always just use a generic blue cheese, I would imagine. As long as it's not too dry.
if you don't find roqufort cheese goats cheese will work and I would add some mint for garnish....maybe a few slivers of sour green apple on the side! he said "spring time dish"
i have no idea what balsamic means, i sorta know that beetroot is probably the root of a beet... and i have no idea what roqufori is. but this is fucking delicious
Are you kidding me? Even the most esteemed chefs openly suggest using prepackaged items like tomatoes and pasta's. It's not a big deal. If someone else just cooks a beet, then vaccuum packages it, it is just as good as when it came out of the pan. Give your head a shake.
You're missing the [attempted] sarcasm of the original post. A few contestants on his Hell's Kitchen [US] tried to get by on Ramsey with frozen or packaged items in their dishes and were castigated for it; and now Ramsey is using a packaged food item. Like I said; it was an attempt at sarcasm and out of context for this video so the sarcasm failed. I wouldn't call the first post idiotic; just a fail.
would be nice if some greens could be thrown in, i.e. spinach. I make it with feta, walnut, sesame and no pan frying, just soak the boiled beetroots in apple caramelized balsamic, extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. In a bed of spinach leaves, the combination tastes out of this world! Must refrigerate it for at least an hour to taste perfect. Beetroot salad must be served cold.
when he's at home, and not screaming at people, he's got great ideas
Tom McRand He’s always got great ideas no matter what environment or mood he’s in, fuckhead.
after 3 years I don't think he cares
😅😂😂😂😂yelling at fool's shit I know the feeling yalling. At assholes🤘🤘😅😂.
00:24
GORDON: "Now these are prepackaged..."
ME: (O.O) Not fresh?!% *faints*
Nailah my jaw nearly hit the floor LoL.... how many times have we seen him screaming at people for "F.F.F...opening a bloody package"(?)!!
Yeah... I have fresh beetroot... how do I make this?
Another thing you should try is beetroot and cumin. One of the best combination ever
I made this several times now, switched to roquefort to some less expensive danish blue. It IS as good as it looks or even better, the combination is amazing.
I suggest everyone watching this trying it out, its not expensive and much easier to make than it looks!
Good idea but the best blue (bleu) is in France, and Roquefort is unique
I was intent on doing just that, but thanks for the advance vindication.👍

Hey, have you tried roasting the beets the day before? I wanna know if you're supposed to heat them back up before serving or serve at room temp
Nigga I'm 13 year late so stfu
The way he flips the pan 😮 I fell in love
i better start practicing pan flipping. ;)

@Rakloro That's what I thought. Many tnx. I tried it with gorgonzola and it worked really well.
@ofdiscordia I understand but he did say they are pre-cooked and that they BAKE them, which I doubt as I have worked with beetroot and only boiling them produces as much juice.
Never seen someone season their toasted sesame seeds lol
I cooked this dish like 3 weeks ago for the first time and trust me, since that I did it literally like 7-8 times.its just amazing and its good with almost anything.well done
I love all the ingredients in this, so must try!
I make this exact dish with goat cheese and it's super good!
what are you talking about :S the ones in the package are pre-cook. If you buy it fresh, you have to cook it, and it takes a lot of time. And there is nothing wrong with buying the package one.
@reginaDeviant because the oil that comes out of the seeds while toasting them is too strong to then cooks the beets in.
I respect Gordon for respecting the ingredients.. Salute
Why not toast the sesame seeds first, put them aside, then do the beetroot? Why used two pans?
You'll just piss him off.
To remind everyone you're rich and don't have to wash your own dishes
Absolutely and Chef Ramsey could make shoe leather taste phenomenal!
Wow... super.. i like it joined u stay connected
Roquefort... with a lasagna.. is amazingly amazing. Just make a cream sauce and use roquefort in it. DAYUM GOOD SON.
@abbasammar1 He said they were pre-cooked, and that you could buy them fresh, and then bake them. He didn't say they were baked :)

Fascinating. This is a really good video, it never occurred to me to sauté the beetroots with olive oil and balsamic.
Ive been looking for a way to incorporate beets into my diet for years but i never liked the flavor until i discovered this recipe!! Game changer
Hey, have you tried roasting the beets the day before? I wanna know if you're supposed to heat them back up before serving or serve at room temp
I love his smile at the end :)
went thru all of it. now i need newer vids.
Guys, the beetoot he's using are boiled not baked! baking them doesnt produce as much juice!
Thank you! Finally someone said how they were prepared lol
You are my inspiration for becoming a chef. I would love to one day work along side you. I am in the culinary program any tips on making a salad with beets and plating it?
@link40k Aha, he said "toasted" but since he is Scottish with a british accent, it came out like "tested".
Gordon, master of the "I so need to pee dance".
@holdthelight11 OK, thanks, I would not have thought of seed oil being too strong.
Man he never gives him mom a break lol every chance he gets
very nice! i'll try it with an italian cheese named "gorgonzola", that is very similar to the roquefort. hope it's good!
@Rakloro How did you prepare the beetroot? Did you boil or bake? Cheers.
@moonsafari200
when you buy a fresh beetroot, better to boil.than just follow the recipe.cheers
I would say the main reason is it does very little to affect the flavour. That's the rule to all cooking: will this give me the best flavour? Precooked beetroot still tastes a hell of a lot like fresh baked beetroot.
you can't ballance the sweetness of the beets - that are glazed by the way - with a less stronger cheese and carrots - pine nuts i don't know... maybe
He smells amazing @ 2:34
Haha it definitely does sound like he's saying, "I smelt amazing".
Hahaha!!
- ooooohhh! he took a shot a mom's "over-cooked" mash potato. lol. she gon' get him.
Looks delicious
dwight would be proud.
The dish is about supporting and complimenting the beet flavour, though, not the cheese. Of course it's going to be a less than prime presentation of the cheese. You could always just use a generic blue cheese, I would imagine. As long as it's not too dry.
Dwight K. Schrute would approve of how you cooked them beats..
looks soo good :)
@flameout12345 Of course he's not standing still he's cooking...
Anyone know the opening tune to this video?
@zzIrHainezz no he bounces even when he talks! haha not like it matters ;)
Which pixel is Gordon Ramsay?
Several.
He happy very happy
Beats are one of the few foods I hate with a passion. But this looks pretty good.
Just made this as a small lunch out of curiosity. surprisingly delicious!
@barkleysound
Yes, me too.
isn't gorgonzola a lighter cheese? if so, then I'd try to use carrots with that cheese and some roasted pine nuts :D
"PACKAGED?!?! CLOSE IT DOWN!!!!"
wait. how do you overcook MASHED potatoes?
if you don't find roqufort cheese goats cheese will work and I would add some mint for garnish....maybe a few slivers of sour green apple on the side! he said "spring time dish"
I love balsamic vinegar..And blue cheese...Am sure this dish will taste awesome..
what's this segment or series called? I only see clips of it on youtube
The F Word
what season? I've seen the entire f word series and I don't recall him cutting to these short teaching clips..
I love this. 🙏💜
well i'm not asking you, i'm french and i'm telling you he pronouces it well.
Guys can you tell me what is roqufori?
"amazing smell comes off balsamic" yeah, a toxic smell until it cooks off
What temp
You can also cook them in the microwave, if you don't mind the plate you use to cover them looking like some manner of murder occurred on it.
@Hayacafrita you do realize that most of those famous tv chef that own there restaurants ..dont really cook food for you cuz there so busy right?
Yeah, OK, he says "Roffoll" at 3:07. But he mostly pronounces it correctly: rock-forr.
What did that have to do with anything
@SotamFireX me too : )
i have no idea what balsamic means, i sorta know that beetroot is probably the root of a beet... and i have no idea what roqufori is. but this is fucking delicious
what sauce did you use? I cant seem to get the name correctly
Balsamic vinegar
Dwight would've loved this
dissing his own mums cooking...dangerous!
Holy shit, pause at 4:31 right before the video ends, his face :O
Did he just diss his moms' mashed potatoes?!
who else now knows exactly where gordan keeps his spoons
Got you, but you have to understand, that hells kitchen is high end restaurant, and that this videos are for the general folks coocking at home.
Thenk you for this salad aj am from athina
can you boil instead of bake?
Dr. Swiffel swaffel
yeah sure of course you can, they taste terrible when boiled though
I never liked beetroot but maybe i'll try this :D
Now seriously? I'm a 14 year old Dutch kid, and I can perfectly understand every word he says. Why all the trouble about"toasted sesame seeds"?
I dont know much about cocaine but I do know something about overactive bladder
Are you kidding me? Even the most esteemed chefs openly suggest using prepackaged items like tomatoes and pasta's. It's not a big deal. If someone else just cooks a beet, then vaccuum packages it, it is just as good as when it came out of the pan.
Give your head a shake.
beet ROOTS not beets. need to be packaged and marinated in a package. no matter how rich you are you need to follow rules if you want good food.
You're missing the [attempted] sarcasm of the original post. Love beets ❤

That sounds fantastic
nice, but not really the same recipe XD
S Senjuti Then you make it wrong.
Roquefort?
C'est quoi ces petites graines ?
sesame seeds
Elisabeth G Thanks
i think he actually said "toasted sesame seeds"
would fresh beets be better?
Come on man. You're a well renowned chef. Don't use those pre cooked beets.
here in italy we can find them fresh!lol
He says toasted sesame seeds.
I know what Roquefort is, but... Roqufori? :S
And what is "Roffoll"? That's the way Ramsay pronounces it.
I think he says : Toasted sesame seeds
always fucking hated beetroot, but that actually looks pretty damn good
+Raphael Abramov Avoid the jarred pickled shit. Fresh beetroot are so fucking good.
Best to grow your own x
so easy and taste amazing.
he says "toasted sesame seed" listen again. :)
Nice recipe. Maybe with more zoom you could screw the video even more.
