TIP for Turmeric lovers: If adding turmeric to drinks specifically, remember to add a little bit of black pepper to enhance the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric. Black pepper also has antiinflammatory properties as well. I know it seems like something weird to add to a drink but you don't need much and you will truly reap the benefits.
To further expound: Black pepper positively inhibits the liver enzymes responsible for too quickly filtering out curcuminoids, thus enhancing the bioavailability. Including a little coconut oil or mct oil would also aid absorption. I plan on using a product called host defense brain & body, that includes black pepper extract, mushrooms, tumeric, cinnamon and ginger. Gonna be legit yummy town.
I have viewed several you tube clips that say that beets are the most nutritious veggie... I love the texture of the leaves, better than most lettuce, spinach or kale. And it keeps longer in the frig. I also use lime, olive oil, cracked peppercorn and half salt... so very healthy... And as far as the roots, I've tried many different approaches... I boil/fry them in olive oil and garlic in a frying pan until soft, then I bake them like roasted potatoes with Italian spice, olive oil and malt vinegar... totally yummy. I love your recipes and am anxious to try them... Thanks again for such an excellent presentation!!
You will retain more nutrients, and the lovely color by leaving on the tail and stem bits until after you cook the beets. Then peel and remove the unwanted parts. Old timey tip for you.
I like your way of cooking the beets with skin on salted water and boil till they are tender .Cool peel slice use oil balsamic Feta cheese on top .Taste for salt

Years ago my Mother introduced me to Borscht a Russian Soup made with Fresh Beets with whute boiled potatoes. My Mother's ancestry was a Polish Mother and a Russian Father. Once the Soup was finished simmering add a dallop of Sour Cream. We ate this quite frequently during the Winter months. I've subscribed to your channel as of Saturday 8/15/20
Actually borsch is a Ukrainian dish, and back in time it was cooked using juice from fermented beetroot - really healthy and tasty! There are lots of recipies of pickled beetroot on youtube... Nevertheless today we cook borsch with boiled beetroot, it has to be chopped and added in the end, along with tomato paste and garlic. Borsch is a sweet dish with slightly sour taste (someone likes to add sour cream to his plate to add creamy taste) P.S. I'm from Ukraine)
Thanks Sonia, I wasn't going to watch the whole video because I all thought I wanted to learn was the cooking process...however I'm really glad I watched it till the end and I learned a lot!
Just a heads up - Turmeric has hydrophobic properties meaning that it won't dissolve on water AND consuming it without pepper makes it way harder for our body to absorb it
Mashwe Hla I always roast mine with olive a oil and salt. If only cooking a few I individually double wrap in foil and roast in the oven. They Are so much sweeter.👍
I had some beets that i didn’t know what to do with. I tried your salad recipe and it was tremendous, I never would have thought to put gorgonzola but it was perfect. Thanks!
I've been eating beets for as long as I remember, it's all good, but I think if you peel it before you boil; eliminates the earthy smells it is mud that sticks all over it.
I definitely agree with peeling them first! Once I put them in my Nutribullet raw (after rinsing and peeling of course) with pineapple, blueberries, spinach and banana...still tasted just like mud!! 😒
I do 1, 3 and 4. I love beets! I never thought they tasted bad like they are known to. I'm such a beet freak my fiancé proposes with beet chips as one of my proposal gifts. Lol
Fun fact: beets are in the order caryophyllale, the same order as Christmas cacti. The unique red pigment in the plants are from betalaines, where as most other reds in plants are from anthocyanins and carotenoids!
Thank you! I'm in my third trimester and low iron, can't wait to try some of these recipes. I've been just eating pickled beets, this will be a good change.
for a sweet salads just add chopped apples, sliced oranges, roasted peanuts Lil bit of honey and if you like add jjicama if you never try jimama you missing out you gotta peel it though
I love beets already I eat them dried, spiraled (from green giant), even pickled I can’t wait to try them in new ways I don’t get why people hate them!! probably because their so healthy🤣🤣
Great video Sonia ! I buy the steamed and peeled beets from Trader Joe's and blend them with some spinach ,lemon juice , frozen banana and whatever frozen fruit I have.
yes sonia thank you i just got told i have anemia and the iron pills they have me take make me feel so sick. so i been eating beets the way i like to eat them is with lime salt and tapatio soo yummy.
Natali Flores I have had anemia and drink beets juice with carrot, celery, and a fruit for taste. Water or juice. In just one week I felt so much better. Good luck
I will be trying all of these ideas as I am trying to add beets into my life. By the way, my Gramma used to add the stems to vegetable soup, puree them into her spaghetti sauce, and also used them with rhubarb in a strawberry rhubarb crisp! Just some things to think about!
I have Hypertension. So thru research I have discovered Beets are very good for high Blood Pressure. I hate Beets. But your video is amazing! I will get some next time shopping.
Lovely video thanks! Just a heads up to author and those watching- EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil) and virgin olive oil are NOT meant to be used for cooking as heat will destroy the goodness in it such as antioxidants. EVOO and VOO are meant to be consumed raw. The third and the fourth distillate are what is used for cooking, frying, baking etc - sometimes these are called olive pomace oil or just olive oil.
What was the round slice she added to the detox water? She mentioned different citrus but the slice the placed in the jar looked like a guava. I wanna try this.
Borscht is fantastic. Making soup captures all the fabulous tastes that leak out while boiling. I love the greens with butter, salt, and a dash of vinegar or lemon juice. Beets are fantastic.
great suggestions, thanks..... if you will take a half a lemon and sprinkle some salt on your cutting board and scub with the cut lemon...it should remove any stain on the wood plus it cleans and is anti bacterial too....then give your board a good soaking of either mineral oil or hemp oil...let the board aborb most of oil and then wipe with a lint free cloth....not only will board be healthier but it will also hide some of those wonderful knife cuts in your board....if a board dries out too much it might crack too..... from someone who makes custom cutting boards......
In m country the only way we eat beets is to boil potatoes with some salt and boil beets apart. Dice everything and then add some mayonnaise and mix and boilá you have a very delicious dish.
What was the first way? Did she say about how long to boil for? I know all beets and cuts, therefore cooking times, will be different, but it's nice to get a ballpark estimate
I was so shocked to hear myself on the intro lmfao sis I'm a fan now. "I do everything, cook, travel, makeup just everything" XD And thank you for this recipe!!! ❤️

I like to boil them because peeling (for me) is a longer process where my nails are in danger haha. Boiling makes them soft and the skin runs right off!

You need to add a tiny bit of oil to activate Tumeric, along with the black pepper like coconut, evoo, etc

I watched the news a few days ago and they said Beets were the "Fountain of Youth"!! I juice them and add them to my juices. Thanks Sonia!
I didnt like them at first but now I cant get enough!
sccastaneda An easier way to peel them, is to boil them in the skin. When they are cool you can just rub the skin off😊

Try molasses and raw beet juice mixed with apples .

Try 20 to 40 minutes - until soft or when you can poke a fork through the beet

Mikayla C. yes super rooty & they are so sweet, when i add them to my smoothies they give them life
The more they cook, the sweeter and starchier. The way potatoes change. But they are earthy and a little bitter.
Its so nice love it.
