I make a beet coconut smoothie and it is so good. I put beets, banana, pineapple, mixed berries, coconut milk and water. It's so good and gives me energy!
Here's the wife's recipe for pickled beets. Yes she cheats. LOL When boiling beets simply add the vinegar, sugar and spices directly to the water. Once boiled and soft, allow to cool, then peel and eat....it's already pickled!!!! She won't eat store bought and usually just boils in salted sugared water without the vinegar, this way she only cooks a few at a time and eats them fresh each time. Thanks for the video, it was a great learning experience even for an old timer like us!!
Had my first beet smoothie this morning loved it. I used melon, beet, pine nuts, mango and a handful of greens. Delicious BTW. Besides all health benefits also good for libido in men. Considering its march was lucky to find even 1 beet with foilage still attached but I did. Will start growing my own. Thanks for your helpful hints on beets.
Noted similar libido effects with a tiny amount of daily Pomegranate juice (Pom diffused in big batch smoothies ... prob less then 1/4 cup per smoothie --- perhaps assisted with a little zinc supplementation)
I've also heard adding the testicles of the Tasmanian Mouse (replacing the Pine Nuts) will boost the libido effect of certain smoothies by nearly 60% when used as a libido stimulant, but you need testicles from about 300 mice for that effect and they are very difficult and rare to source because these mice are very small and quick and difficult to catch... This "aphrodisiac" effect was scientifically discovered and proven while studying the reproductive nature of animals that fed on these mice.
I love fresh beets! I cook the leaves like spinach; the beets steams I cook and use like celery Bottom part I wash well put in clean water pot and cook for a while and the water becomes like beet juice
I usually roast my beets unless I'm making borsht but the storing tips were really useful. If I do roast for beet salad I fast saute the greens and incorporate; prefer lemon juice to vinegar, but … apples walnuts and beets make a wicked salad, in which case I use apple cider vinegar, what else. Great video.
Oh I know this is super late, but I AM making borscht tonight and how do you peel them for that? Or is there just now way of getting around the just peeling? Blanching? Anything😩? I hate peeling hard root vegetables🙈.
Hello, love the video. I learned to cut the greens off it. I make a salad with red and greens together definitely oil and vinegar and I add some kind of pepper to it too. Sometimes sub vinegar with fresh diced lemon. On occasion use feta cheese. I never use salt.
Great video. We use baseball size, cut in 4th's, pressure cook for 25-30 min. Run over luke warm water and rub the skins off, chop. Then vinegar/olive oil, salt and pepper. Our kids, even as adults love them!
this is great Dani, I have been roasting my beets, on parchment paper and gloves to peal, I use vinegar, water, coconut sugar and ground cloves, red onion. I love them also add the leaves to my smoothie. take care
Lately one of the local grocers has been carrying beets with the most luscious greens attached. (The talented Hutterite farmers here are able to grow and harvest quite late in the year). I lucked out a few days ago while picking my bunches of beets and someone before me had actually removed the greens from what looked like would have been 3 bunches, and set them neatly aside. Can’t imagine anyone not loving beet greens! The grocer said I could have them to add to my bag so I ended up with a whole lot of extra free greens, yum!
Thank you so much for sharing. I've always ate my beets out of the can. I know it's bad, but I never knew what to do with the raw form. Thanks for the tutorial. Love your videos :)
hi Dani I always love to roast my beets in the oven with turnips, rutabaga, carrots, and red onion all cut up the same size so they cook evenly. A little olive oil, salt and pepper. YUM!
Just learned a lot. Had to run in the kitchen when you said take the greens of. I had them on for 2 days and didn't even know they were going bad. Thanks 😘
You can also juice beets in most standard juicers (I use a K&K juicer). It mixes well with carrot juice. And the leaves can be juiced in a wheat grass juicer. But beet leaves raw in a salad are great.
Here is a tasty recipe my ex husband had me make. He was from the Ukraine. Take a few pounds of red beets, scrub clean and boil in their jackets until soft. When cool enough to handle, rub the peeling off or use a knife. They slide off easily. Grate in a bowl, season to taste with salt and pepper. Add a few, depending on how much you like, minced fresh garlic cloves, finely chopped walnuts or pecan bits. Add a cup or two of sour cream, depending on taste, and fresh or dried dillweed. Mix thoroughly and add more dill if you want. The colors of the beets and dill are beautiful in a crystal serving bowl!
Thanks for the info. We tried leaving the skins on when we ate them and they were really good. Also, we tried sauteeing the greens with spinach. So good.

Then I'm stuck buying beets during winter months, 2 lb bag for $3. ugh ! I don't bother removing the skin. Love this recipe. Take one beet for each person. Wash them then slice them into rounds as thick as you like. (The thicker they are the longer they take to cook)Put a tbspOlive or coconut oil in a pan with 1 tbsp butter. Gently cook the beets in this for 15 mins then turn. Love beats, I buy them pretty often. But instead of steaming or cooking in the water I wrap them in the foil and bake. That way my beets are more flavorful😄❤️

Great Tips using gloves or oil on my hands When handling Beets! I think I’ll go for the gloves, don’t wanna waste my good oil on the beets for preparing them until ready for including oil in or no in A recipe! Video Very information!
Sounds good! I was going to get some beets this week and I'm so thankful for this video. I would have done everything all wrong. I would have cut the root off and the top and thrown away the greens.
Beets also help to detoxify your liver so that your thyroid gland will function better! Thank you for another superb video! I'm getting into the beets and will be experimenting with new recipes!!!
I make the perfect smoothie using raw beats . I take one cup of ice cold water , one lemon , one beat , a hand full of berries and a clove of ginger .Blend it in a blender and drink it like a smoothie . This is a natural energy booster .
My trick: after finishing a jar of Bread & Butter Chips, I clean and chop my red beets into cubes and marinate them in the juice in the jar. After about a day in the frig, the cubes come out crisp and tasting like Bread & Butter Chips.
I hate beets, but LOVE the greens. But then, I like most greens, sautéed in olive oil and garlic, some chili flakes, salt/pepper, a bit of water when needed. My mother loves beets, so when she bought them, she cooked them, I had the greens with some pasta and a bit of Italian cheese, YUM!!
Last year, after juicing some beets I was given, I put the beet and carrot pulp from my juicing excursion into my asparagas soup. All that needs is some berries for dessert and it's a nice cancer repellant meal.
Hi Dani! I've subscribe to your channel just now and I'm very excited to explore what else I can learn. Today I'm cooking beets and sweet potato in the oven in order to pack up in a mason jar and make it a "to go" salad in a jar. I like that you explain and have a lot of knowledge about food. Just recently roasted some beets with Olive oil, salt & pepper. I peeled them before I cooked them with a potato peeler, wore food service gloves & used a plastic cutting mat...the mess was minimal & they peeled pretty easily.
Just wanted to let you all know about juicing raw beets, I got feeling very sick my first time I tried it. My Doctor told me because it's a detoxifier that I should have only started with a 1/4 of a beet instead of a whole one. I was getting detoxified too fast. I was fine after I laid down for a while, but it was very uncomfortable and a little scary.
Hi Dani! In Serbia we add horseradish to this type of salad that you prepared. Wow, is that delicious 😋 don’t use cream horseradish, just the straight stuff. A must try.

Great Tips using gloves or oil on my hands
When handling Beets! I think I’ll go for the gloves, don’t wanna waste my good oil on the beets for preparing them until ready for including oil in or no in A recipe! Video
Very information!
Just wash your hands!
Sounds good! I was going to get some beets this week and I'm so thankful for this video. I would have done everything all wrong. I would have cut the root off and the top and thrown away the greens.
Perfect! Excellent information and great presentation!
4:18; This is great. Thank you! I will now use them more with this method.

This is a natural energy booster .
mallen4000 ok
Sounds great Mallen4000, do you peel raw beet skin first or throw unpeel beet in blender? Thanks :-)
Are pickled beets as healthy as fresh?
A hip hop beat or country beat?
Thank you so much! I love beets. Can't wait to steam them and have them add color to my meals.
Luv the way you explain things. Easy to understand and informative
My trick: after finishing a jar of Bread & Butter Chips, I clean and chop my red beets into cubes and marinate them in the juice in the jar. After about a day in the frig, the cubes come out crisp and tasting like Bread & Butter Chips.
Dani, you have to try them with goat cheese!! are just yummy!!
4:23 minutes, she finally gets into how to cook them.
Last year, after juicing some beets I was given, I put the beet and carrot pulp from my juicing excursion into my asparagas soup. All that needs is some berries for dessert and it's a nice cancer repellant meal.
Excellent video. Best video on picking beets that we've seen.
+paperbacknovel Great - so glad it was helpful.
I like my roasted cooled off with a little miracle whip. It makes a fun pink salad.
Hi Dani!
I've subscribe to your channel just now and I'm very excited to explore what else I can learn.
Today I'm cooking beets and sweet potato in the oven in order to pack up in a mason jar and make it a "to go" salad in a jar.
I like that you explain and have a lot of knowledge about food.
Do you have a cook book maybe?
your new fan, KEREN.
Welcome Keren!! Happy to have you as a new viewer :) I don't have a cookbook out yet, but hope to soon; although I do have an ebook you can check out: amzn.to/2coNA50

+THEOUTDOORZ You're welcome! I love them, too :)
I have just started to develop my culinary skills and I want to cook beets for my family. The staining of the juice puts me off. However after listening to you, I realize the benefits....thanks, I must persevere!
Juice the Greens and stalks, Cut these off and juice with Carrots-- Magnifico!! -- you can always re-hydrate the greens and the beets by putting them in water for a few hours!

@@akrammd7705 I rijh it royor,
Just recently roasted some beets with Olive oil, salt & pepper.
Interesting. My doctor would not even know that.
Omg. I blended two yesterday for the first time and felt sick right after swallowing it
You gotta juice them
With fruit like Apples & Pineapple to neutralize the taste . Better with Apples, melons , pears or Pineapples.
Hi Dani! In Serbia we add horseradish to this type of salad that you prepared. Wow, is that delicious 😋 don’t use cream horseradish, just the straight stuff. A must try.
Damn, you sure know your beets. I definitely need to incorporate them in my diet and maybe this year I'll finally do it. Thanks, Dani, for the tips, and reminding me of this. My tip to you is to buy a few burgundy colored shirts.
Very helpful info! Thank you! I just had a smoothie with some beets and it was delicious. Thanks for the tips on storing and peeling them.
