Leather honey is excellent. Picked up a 30 year old knee length coat on eBay after searching for a new one of good quality with no luck. considered a custom made one which would've been upwards of £600. £59 , some recolouring balm, some Leather honey and the coat looks like I picked it up brand new of the shelf today.
It's a beeswax solution so it will only be temporary. The method I use is dark (blackwood or ebony) wood stain, topped by beeswax afterwards. The wood stain is a natural product and will permanently darken leather fibres. Have done this to my black jacket and on my brown jacket where I used oak colored stain. Cheers.
I found a nice tan leather jacket at a thrift store that is bone dry. It is so dry, it looks off white. I put some Bick 4 leather conditioner on it and the surface swelled up, revealing minor cracks in the leather. After several light coats, the color is coming back a bit (enough that I know it's tan). I was hoping you might have some tips for restoring a jacket that is as dry as the one I have. I will give the Obenauf's a try for the jackets I find that are in the condition your jacket is in. I usually use the Kiwi conditioning oil but your method will allow me to skip using a rag to apply the oil.
I would recommend 100%-neatsfoot oil, it will soften and deep condition your jacket. Works best on black leather because it will darken the leather somewhat. Just ask me here if anybody wants instructions. ✌🏻
Honestly, just use black shoe polish. I’ve been using it for years on my leather bike jacket. Does exactly the same job and doesn’t come off if you leave overnight to dry like you would shoes. No need to buff if you want that flat natural look.
hi! i hope you'll see this! but... did it work? my leather jackett was washed and looks horrible... could you fix it? if so, what did you do? thank u!!
I purchased this product. I just applied a pretty hefty amount to a Bolongaro Trevor Sheep Skin leather biker style jacket. The texture was pretty rough and dried up. I will update on this comment after a day or two. UPDATE: This indeed restored smoothness on sheep skin leather jacket and it absorbed a lot of the obenaufs in the super dry areas. I might apply another coating of obenafs some time soon to really get more smoothness from the sheep skin leather.
Peter Silecchio, once the Obenauf’s dries, it’s not sticky at all and won’t attract any dust. It’s great stuff, I’ve used it on all my leather for a long time. I’ve never had a negative experience with it. It will dry overnight.
I did not no you liked leather jackets I've got 10 and love them but I always feel that I need just 1 more 😂😆 just cleaned my brook leather up looks like new now
I use Neatsfoot Oil 100% pure on my rifle slings and other leather. It works well, but darkens the leather a great deal and sometimes will "grow" what looks like a white "mold" that just wipes off, but the leather feels wonderful. Also, I use it on my Buck Knife's leather sheath. What do you think of Neatsfoot oil?
Great video. Thanks for the Obenauf's recommendation. I was looking it up online and found the Obenauf's leather cleaner spray. Do you have any experience with that product and would you recommend it? Thanks...
I dyed my $1200 leather jacket in jet black Angelus dye and applied LP on it, problem is lot of dye is bleeding making everything like hands black, any help? Thanks
How might one go about removing wrinkles in leather without ruining the leather with heat? I got a second hand, Savile Row brand, genuine leather jacket and it doesn't have absolutely terrible wrinkles, but I would like to restore it to its orginal look to the best of my ability.
Yea i agree the wearing and distressed look is awesome and i like the look and ratber it look like that but you still have to take care of it cant have your jacket cracking, chapped and chaffed now thats to much and that sucks. Good stuff im do the same to mines thanks!!!
I know the Obenaufs helped with my jacket and it’s always been great on my leather boots and knife and axe sheaths. There should be a link in the description for Amazon.
Got an old ugly burgundy banana republic jacket. Hand washed it with soap in tub. Lost ugly burgundy color. Dried it. Took fine steel wool to it. Now always get compliments. So, don’t be afraid folks!
Jack, I enjoyed the video. I have a deerskin jacket I inherited from my father. It hung in the closet for 30 years. It is dried and cracking especially on the shoulders where the wooden coat hanger stretched it out a little. Could I do with this jacket, what you did with yours, using some Kiwi neutral shoe polish, or would recommend Obenaufs?
Synthetic meaning the type of oil used is not natural which could rot .The deerskin is probably vegetable tanned because of the age and type of leather .First gently clean it with saddle soap then put multiple thin coats on the Jacki until it won't absorb it anymore. Then gently buff it .
@** the white stuff could be the fat liquor from the tanning process . Sometimes the Fat liquor can leach out and leave white spots . Nothing to worry about wipe it / rub it in
Don't use obenauf on your jacket mate, unless you don't mind getting it on your clothes and seats etc. Some oils with a beeswax base is a better choice. Especially with black dye, to recolour often.
lol I ran a screenshot thru aws rekognition because there is a celebrity that this guy is like an exact doppelganger for but I cant think of his name and I can't think of anything in and it's sorta driving me nuts. So far I've tried it four tiems and gotten Heine Totland, Billy Morrison (never heard of either), Sean Astin (lol no idea how it could get sean astin but it did) and then Heine Totland again. Damn it.. now this is going to drive me crazy. The guy I'm thinking of always plays like a little nervous assistant type character. Like he is definitely typecast
tried a few more times and got billy morrison like five more times and then the last time it said Joshua Malina who I've never heard of and how this guy looks nothing like. I give up lol. This is just gonna bug me.
It looks like you're simply using mink oil. . Why don't you say the name of the formula rather than the brand name? I like the idea of shoe polish. . The Minke whale works well to condition the leather, but I find it doesn't last. To keep the scratches and scuffs from showing.
Would I like to use is not mink oil paste I don't like it. What are the news and now is a mink oil liquid. Applied with a horsehair brush. And then on the back of the jacket I like just using black leather dye and that will fix it up especially their on like the cuffs and the where the stamps and zippers come together or even at the caller those are like three or four main areas especially also they're in the pockets it's just the way of getting it there without having to kill yourself with something else.
Thank you for this video. Worked like a charm.
I like that it's literally done by hand. Really underlines putting some love into it.
Great video! I applied the scream to my very expensive five year old jacket, and it looks brand new.
You yelled at it? 😳
I normally use Leather Honey conditioner and a dust free cloth on my vintage leather.
It works well.

It's crazy what a bit of conditioner and wax can do to a good leather item

Great suggestion, never thought of wood stain to bring back the color. I’ve used shoe polish and it’s only temporary.
What color did you use for your black jacket?
@@Travislitxxz use ebony wood stain
Try Tandy Leather for real leather dye. Better than wood stain.
@@Travislitxxz Ebony stain.
the design of this jacket is beautiful
It’s taken me 5 years to get one of my leathers to look like that, I’d leave it alone, it looks great.
Interesting! Nice thrift store find and great solution for the wear of the leather, brother.

Thanks for this! Thought I had ruined my Dad's leather jacket!
Hi. Pecards has a conditioner with a little black or brown die in the conditioner. I used it and great results.
I would recommend 100%-neatsfoot oil, it will soften and deep condition your jacket. Works best on black leather because it will darken the leather somewhat. Just ask me here if anybody wants instructions. ✌🏻
I want to know
How about those leather jacket with mixed fabric inside and on the ends of the sleeve and lower back?
I don’t want my jacket soft it’s a biker jacket it’s supposed to be rough
Honestly, just use black shoe polish. I’ve been using it for years on my leather bike jacket. Does exactly the same job and doesn’t come off if you leave overnight to dry like you would shoes. No need to buff if you want that flat natural look.
It rubs off on your clothes.
Hope this works! For some reason my dads leather coat was washed and now looks ruined. Not completely but hope I can fix for him.

Hi. After it dries is it stickie ? Attract Dust?

How to know if my leather jacket lost the paint in some areas (as shown in 1:20) or it has fungus ?
Great THX for this tutorial, could I use a true natural tung oil. It's a dark tung oil a. I want to condition my dr. Martens and leather trench coat
Hi Try next time Pecards Black Leather Conditioner. It has a small amount of Black Leather Die. Comes in Brown also.
Hi if I have random spots on my coat do I need to do the whole process on each spot of can I just use the obenoffs on those spots?
If I don't have a horsehair brush, can I use something else to get it ready for cleaner/conditioner?
Wow fantastic!
I did not no you liked leather jackets I've got 10 and love them but I always feel that I need just 1 more 😂😆 just cleaned my brook leather up looks like new now
Did you cleaned the jacket with water before applying obenauf???
What did you wipe the jacket with first a wet rag or something else I'm really curious on what that was???
oldshovel, what did you use to clean the jacket prior to installing the Obenaufs?

your video don't have clear description what what you are doing. what do you apply before the cream?
Please mention cream name my name is nadir I want my jacket restore.thanks
@Mufti Nadir Khan you can use oil to restore colour and condition
I’ve had a leather jacket for 4 years now, which sits in the closet most of the time. Should I still condition it although it’s still fairly new?
That's gotta be the fastest hands I've ever seen
Lol 😂
Fastest hands in the west
Great video. Thanks for the Obenauf's recommendation. I was looking it up online and found the Obenauf's leather cleaner spray. Do you have any experience with that product and would you recommend it? Thanks...
Isn't the "rubbing" with the brush a little bit to harsh? You are extra sweaty at 9:00 from rubbing :D
what are you applying with the rug?
is that the timex field watch?
Ive got mink oil i use for my Austrian jump boots. Would it be suitable for jackets as well
Yes Mink oil works on all types of leather.
Very thorough!👍🏻
I dyed my $1200 leather jacket in jet black Angelus dye and applied LP on it, problem is lot of dye is bleeding making everything like hands black, any help? Thanks
Looks great
Hy! Would Dr Martens wonderbalsam do the trick? It seems to be similar in composition.
10x for your reply! Cheers!
When you rubbed the jacket down originally after brushing. What did you use on the cloth to clean the leather?
Water

Steam iron, and a towel in between.

Its a good job .
Great video!
What was the name of the product used and can you buy it in the US .
Buy mink oil rain just beads off like a new car.
Do I wipe it with water before using the product ? Let me know please.
I used dry shoe polish, that helps.
How to restore a pair of ww2 Navy flying trousers what are only started to dry out .What can i buy to halt leather drying out and stop cracking thanks

Lexol replentishes the moisture in the leather...then Obenoffs
@@tikkidaddy Are you saying to use the Lexol first and then apply Obenaufs?
Will this product soften the leather and make it more pliable? I have a similar jacket (same brand) that is a little stiff and a bit noisy 😄thanks
Sounds like it needs to be broken in a bit.
Got an old ugly burgundy banana republic jacket. Hand washed it with soap in tub. Lost ugly burgundy color. Dried it. Took fine steel wool to it. Now always get compliments. So, don’t be afraid folks!
I can almost smell it from here. 😁👍
I heard the voice of Bea Arthur singing Welcome To The Jungle in the sounds of the fast motion brushing and scrubing...

Get a synthetic leather conditioner for vintage leather that has a neutral pH .Neutral shoe Polish won't do it any good .
Synthetic meaning the type of oil used is not natural which could rot .The deerskin is probably vegetable tanned because of the age and type of leather .First gently clean it with saddle soap then put multiple thin coats on the Jacki until it won't absorb it anymore. Then gently buff it .

Was the rag u used after the brush damp with water or something ????...great video !!
Always use black shoe polish and soft brush. And little bit of vaseline
good job!
That's how I bring back World War II leather flight jackets
Hey Jack, what about using a deglazer followed by a black dye?
Put more on man I apply 10 coats over 6 weeks.
just dunk it into a tub of that shit
Is the 4oz enough for how many jackets?
Great video, was that just a normal damp wet cloth you used to wipe it down?
Yes. Just to clean it up a bit before applying the Obenaufs. Thanks for watching!
Good video! Btw can i use this same method to faux leather jacket?
I don’t think this would work on faux leather. It would need pores to absorb the oils into.
oldshovel okay, do you know any methods or stuff what helps put crackened faux jacket looks better?
Great video! Does Obenauf help restore color as well? What do you advise for coloring the scuff marks on a black leather jacket?
It darkens the leather but does not really add any color. If you want to color it you would need some leather dye. Thanks for watching.
will this restore the shine to the leather? Noticing that leather milk leaves it my jackets a little duller.
nice video
Thanks
How do you clean the fabic parts????
Holly Chopp I use waterless fabric cleaning foam and brush. I don’t know about regular store but Amazon sells it.
@@bigsquare88 thank you! 🙂
what would you suggest for faux leather coats?
What would you suggest for darkening an all saints lamb skin leather jacket?
From before they became Wilson's Pleather
What Brand is the jacket?
Wilsons 3:01
Change colour white to black dear brother
Don't use obenauf on your jacket mate, unless you don't mind getting it on your clothes and seats etc.
Some oils with a beeswax base is a better choice. Especially with black dye, to recolour often.
II can't see the name of oil please take a clear photo oil can?
Obenauf’s heavy duty LP
Good job. Black oil based dye (no acrylic dye) on the worn areas and cuff edges first.
I use coconut oil on my jacket, works great for me
You remind me a lot of the actor Michael J. Fox.
Now, I suppose, you've taken that jacket Back to the Future.
