Thank you so much for your informative video!! I just got my first leather jacket and I’m a little terrified that the rain or snow will ruin it! But this has me feeling better! Could you share the links for conditioner? I’m specifically interested in one that won’t change the color of my jacket very much. Thank you!!
Bick 4 Leather Conditioner is great if you don't want to darken leather. amzn.to/3wOXIwV (Make sure you're applying to a clean jacket that's been wiped down with a damp rag before application and allowed to dry completely)
Nice job.. I have 8 leather motorcycle jackets, six pairs of leather Streetbike boots, around 30 pairs of leather gloves, One pair of leather jeans.. One pair of one piece, beige motorcycle Road, racing leathers that fit me 30 pounds ago.. I sold off about six or eight of my jackets over the decades as I expanded , I like to think that they shrunk.. all my gear has a combined almost 800,000 miles on them, mostly commuting here in Pennsylvania, eight months, a year, light, rain, or shine. Even got caught in the snow several times at work, one day, 6 inches of snow… i used saddle soap only on my boots- i even have a video on my youtube channel showing how i clean my boots with saddle soap.. I never heard of using Vaseline on leather before. I never worried about where showing or patina on my boots or leather Jackets. I considered them earned battle scars. i’m gonna try your system.. I will share this video with my friends. The biggest surprise of your video was the fact that you claim you only get to ride about three or four months a year living in Utah .. is that due to? It’s starting to snow in September? And snowing until May? Or is it due to the cold?.. I’ve always wanted to go through Colorado and supposedly the most scenic state Utah especially on route 128. But I haven’t made it yet. Thanks for the video
Utah has harsher winters than many might realize. Love the battle scars in your leather. Conditioning extends the life of the leather but sometimes it looks better when you don’t repair every little something that happens
Hi, did you apply the saddle soap on the whole jacket then wait for it to dry? Or did you do it in small sections then wipe it? Also how long did wait for the saddle soap to dry then wipe? If so, how long did you let the soap dry? Thank you! This is gonna be my first time cleaning my leather jacket
Love leather honey 🍯 just be aware that you have to use a LOT of it. Bick 4 is a great equivalent that doesn’t use so much to condition larger surface areas
I did the whole jacket, pay special attention to areas where it creases. I wipe off excess saddle soap with a fresh damp rag and allow to dry overnight, 24 hours ideally or until it is no longer damp to the touch
I thrifted 6 leather jackets and I want to clean them all. So it’s better to use the fiebing saddle soap right? Just to double check, Ill use the saddle soap for the whole jacket then wait for like 10-15mins then wipe it off with damp rag? For the bic 4, can I use a rag or its better to use hands? Sorry for many questions and thank you for your help!
@@edcvibes how do you clean the lining inside? And is it okay to steam it to get rid of bacteria? Last question, is it okay to iron the leather if it has crease? Thank you!
Dilute 1 tbsp of laundry detergent in 4c of water Wet a soft sponge in the soapy water then squeeze out all excess moisture Hang your jacket inside out, then gently scrub the liner material with your dampened sponge (NOTE: Always test this first in an inconspicuous location and allow to fully dry before applying to the rest of your jacket liner) Rinse your sponge in clean water to remove any detergent residue, then squeeze out all excess moisture Gently scrub the jacket liner with the clean, lightly damp sponge to remove detergent residue Allow the jacket to hang inside out until completely dry
Great video. I'm writing from Croatia, Europe and can't get products that have been mentioned. Just bought old, used bomber brown jacket. I clean it and put leather liquid conditioner on, (not much), and let it dry. Jacket was very dry when I bought it. Since zipper has been brooken, I gave it to a tailor to replace it with new one. Tailor gave advice (he is biker, by the way) to "use ordinary hand cream". Please what is your opinion, regular hand cream, or cream for leather with bee wax, that I planned to use ? Thank you.
@@Aleksandar-io1epIt would be better to use proper leather conditioner. Leather needs to breath, and if you use wrong products it can get dry rot, or your stitches will deteriorate. Maybe Kiwi makes leather conditioners or balms in Europe.
Saddle butter is great for water-proofing since it contains a combination of ingredients including beeswax and Brazilian carnauba wax tallow. If you know you'll be getting consistent rain exposure though I would recommend sealing the leather with a proofing spray every now and again.
Mix a few drops of dish soap into a bowl and mix. Dunk a towel into the liquid and wring dry. I’m talking no more water coming out. You want your rag/towel damp not wet. Turn your jacket inside out and Wipe down the interior of your jacket and then get a fresh towel and dip that in water and wring out until damp then wipe down your lining to remove any leftover soap. Leave it turned inside out and hang it to dry overnight. Any stains can be treated with a bit of baking soda
"STOP Ruining Your Jacket With Saddle Soap" ....... then he uses Saddle Soap to clean it? I am so confused. So do we use Saddle Soap on leather or not?
@@edcvibessaddle soap removes body body oils, lifts off grit, grim, food stains, and caked in dust. For filthy jackets that need aggressive cleaning, a liberal amount of saddle soap is required, and followed up with 2 coats of conditioner because the more saddle soap you use the more oil it will remove from the leather.

Thank you! I bought an old Marlboro Red and White jacket that I cannot wait to restore!

Saddle soap dries out leather, sometimes to the point of cracking. It is better to use Dawn dish soap or Lexol 1 for leather.

Thanks for the video. What kind of leather is your jacket in the video? Is it cow or sheep or horse leather?
Thanks! It’s cow leather
Great video. End results look fantastic.
Thank you!
I used to clean the tac room every year we had very old saddles there were in good shape and only used real saddle scope .
Great video, thank you! Also nice jacket. What maker and model is it?
How do you wash the inside?
Dilute 1 tbsp of laundry detergent in 4c of water
Wet a soft sponge in the soapy water then squeeze out all excess moisture
Hang your jacket inside out, then gently scrub the liner material with your dampened sponge (NOTE: Always test this first in an inconspicuous location and allow to fully dry before applying to the rest of your jacket liner)
Rinse your sponge in clean water to remove any detergent residue, then squeeze out all excess moisture
Gently scrub the jacket liner with the clean, lightly damp sponge to remove detergent residue
Allow the jacket to hang inside out until completely dry

Hand cream is great but doesn’t protect as well as cream with bees wax.

How does this saddle butter do with rain?

Why does everybody clean only the outside and not the inside???
Usually the lining is fabric and can be dry cleaned or wiped down with a damp rag
Will this cleaning method work for a jacket that has a lot of mildew on it?
Wash it with a mild soap like dish soap 🧼 then allow it to completely dry overnight before following these steps
Good advices
How do you clean the interior? Especially with it being a mesh lining. I currently have this exact model

so i don't need to use mink or neatsfoot oils? i can use a veggie option?
Yeah, I would seal it as well
Vaseline is great for softening leather
How's the result? Is there any colour change? TY
"STOP Ruining Your Jacket With Saddle Soap" ....... then he uses Saddle Soap to clean it? I am so confused. So do we use Saddle Soap on leather or not?
I’m using saddle soap to clean the oily residue and build up from previous conditioning. You don’t want to use saddle soap on a dry jacket

Or you could use leather wipes and save a ton of time and money
For me leather wipes are an inbetween. I like to do a complete condition every few months :)
@ good to know i feel the same
Everybody knows to use splooge over saddle soap...
I have a original "CORDON 1986" XL size, leather bomber jacket for sale....
