All the superpower stuff he learned from Lilith, the First Woman who taught him to harness the curse's power and create the vampire disciplines. Even stuff like being burned by sunlight and being only sustained by blood came later when God's angels offered Caine the chance to repent, which he denied.
Yup, both the Lilith and Caine vampire origin myths tell the story this way. Jehova and his Archangels are responsible for all the vampire's weaknesses. While Lilith is responsible for all their strengths, except agelessness. Caine is the only true immortal of the bunch since he allegedly can't die.
And if I recall correctly, while other Kindred weaknesses are curses placed upon Caine, the last who visited him, Archangel Gabriel, took mercy upon Caine and gave him a promise of a way to free himself from his Beast - and that chance at freedom is Golconda

For Bloodlines 2 - Development hell. Things went terribly wrong due to the original devs making it made a lot of stupid decisions and mistakes, including, er, firing the creative director and lead writer (P.S.: The lead writer was the same as the original.) So the game is now being salvaged by a currently unknown team, after the original dev studio was fired for their incompetence. Knowing that original team, it is very unsurprising that things went so wrong. Their management notoriously killed off Blacklight Retribution via their mistakes.

I heard rumors that it was some mobile dev team who was thrust into doing something larger for the first time. Things like this have gone well in the past, like with Little Orbit going from shovelware to game preservation work and then picking up Unsung Story to finish it and release it.
Nobody knows what mistakes were made that has resulted in the game being postponed. Only thing that's known is that Paradox gave the game to a new developer. Anything else is basically tabloid journalism.

You can find plenty of information from former employees of the studio as well as, y'know, the giant debacle involving the studio firing the creative director, lead writer, and then the game's co-writer leaving as well? You can also track down some former employees from Hardsuit Labs yourself to talk to, some of them are open to talk, particularly the ones who were also present during the late development of Blacklight Retribution. Again, the studio was known for mismanagement even before Bloodlines 2.

If I recall correctly, Troika wanted to confirm that the cab driver is Caine but it was vetoed by White Wolf. I think files associated with him like dialogue and the model / textures still have the prefix "caine" in the game files. There are other theories where the cab driver is possessed/dominated by Caine.
For a long while I thought Jack was Caine, with him seemingly having his fingers in some of the things that happened in the game and how knowledgeable he was. The moment I had my conversation with the cab driver though, I realized he was Caine instead.

There is a reason the Camarilla uses Kindred over Cainite. Just for the record, in VtM it was not God who gave Cain his diciplines, God just made him imortal, the angels made him drink blood and burn in the sun, and Lilith gave him his diciplines, I recomend people to read the book of Nod, it's a really interesting window in the World of Darkness
A fun little fact - while the 'basic' version of that myth says Cain was cursed by God ,with further weaknesses placed upon him by angels, the some of the more mysticism-oriented Kindred hold a different belief. In their interpretation, God demanded of Cain and Abel a offering of what was precious to them. And while Abel offered the blood of the lamb, Cain gave onto God what was most important to him - his own beloved brother. In that version, vampirism was no curse but a blessing, a reward from God bestowed upon Cain for his act of devotion. Then the other weaknesses - the doom by sun, the fear of fire - were still placed onto him by angels, but here those were acts of spite, made by the angelic host jealous that God elevated mere mortal instead of them.
Fun fact: if you use console commands to get exp points as a Malkavian right at the start of the game your character actualy confesses that he cheated to Jack
My favorite theory about the cab driver: Due to his somewhat older European accent, his ability to befriend one of the oldest vampires in the game and lastly his immense aura at the end means that he might be the protagonist of the previous Vampire The Masquerade video-game. It was a Diablo-esque game and *********MAJOR SPOILERS********** at the end of that game he beats and diablirizes an Antedeluvian. In truth though the general consensus is that it is Caine himself and that the whole sarcophagus questline was just a mcguffin quest laid by Caine and Jack to take down the current corrupt Camarilla and hit the Quei-Jin in the stomach and regain some balance.
I used go play this game once per year. And since my first time through I always figured Cain to be the Cab driver, just getting used to the new world, gathering information and watching, guiding. The Malkavian playthrough later down the line cemented this thought.
I respect your stance on religion, I used to be that annoying atheist kid at some point, though it didn't last long. I'm not really religious, but I've learned a different perspective on the matter that's more helpful to me and certainly less aggravating to those who is. There's a lot for people to learn.
Those powers (disciplines) were actually taught by Lilith (first woman) and not god according to the TTRPG lore. The vampirism side effects were given by each curse that the Creator gave him. Lilith is the woman in that painting that you need to slash during one of those early missions.
My first play through of this game was Malkavians. And this was also my first introduction to the vampire world and lore. And I LOVED it. And I LOVE Malkavians. xD
Since I enjoyed this game alot I've dived deeper into the whole biblical backstory. As it turns out Cain didn't have any powers at first but after he met up with Lilith who had mastered the art of witchcraft, Cain got her to give him abilities that we can see in the game. After getting what he wanted, Cain left Lilith behind. That was the thing with the gallery painting slashing as well.
Yahweh was angry with Cain for the murder, but murder had not yet been forbidden, so Yahweh punished Cain to the fullest extent that He could without being a hypocrite. Reading the bible chronologically as a story makes it clear that Yahweh has certain expectations for behavior, and the law primarily exists because people keep doing things they should know better than to do, requiring it to then be forbidden. Yahweh's attitude towards the law is also different from our modern legal system: in modern law, ignorance is no excuse, but under the moral law, God does excuse ignorance. God never explicitly forbade murder until after Cain murdered. Cain is the reason that law was put in place. You cannot be repudiated out of ignorance of the law. You cannot be retroactively guilty. This is proven by the fact that Yahweh did not just kill Cain, since the penalty for murder under the law is death. If Cain was subject to the law, he should have been killed. But he wasn't, because that law did not exist yet at that time. Yahweh hated Cain for what he did, but Yahweh would not be unfair and retroactively punish Cain, even if Cain arguably deserved it. Paul in the New Testament confirms this in his own writings, as he was a highly educated man; being what amounts to a lawyer, a priest, and a historian who was also fluent in several languages. Paul said that the whole of the law can be summarized as loving your own people and loving God, and putting them first in everything you do. Any man who does this CANNOT sin, he CANNOT be found in violation of the law. In summary, God expected us to love our own people and to love Him, and we kept disappointing Him. All the laws put in place are best understood from viewing Yahweh as an exasperated parent who has to keep forbidding more elaborate and specific things because His kids are acting out and doing shit they know they shouldn't. A parent doesn't want to have to set a specific rule saying you can't be out past 11 on a school night and you can't steal cigarettes and smoke them behind the garage. One would hope that's just implied. It's the same idea here. It wasn't against the law to murder anybody until Cain murdered Abel. And if the law was retroactive, Yahweh would have just killed Cain instead of cursing him and sending him into exile. If we were better children, forbidding things like murder or adultery wouldn't be in the law because they wouldn't have to be. We wouldn't be doing those things. The only reason the law exists at all is because we stole cigarettes and smoked them behind the garage. So now the law has to exist. We proved we can't be trusted to just do whatever we want, which is what Yahweh ORIGINALLY told Adam.

I actually started playing this recently and I had a really funny interaction as a Brujah; I went to the church club in downtown and the bartender acts as a surrogate confessional booth to get drinks, so when she’s asking me about my life and what sins I’ve commited, I held off on saying anything (since it was vampire related) and then I got the option “I voted Republican once.” I said that and she goes “damn…there’s no drink here that’s gonna wash away a sin that bad.”
The identity of the cab driver depends on if you care about the source material or not. In the pen and paper roleplaying books, Caine actively hates all of his children due to the millennia of drama and betrayal and would NEVER help Jack. He would slaughter him for merely trying to talk to him for Caine has long stopped caring about vampire politics. Canonically the cab driver is a Malkavian who thinks he’s Caine. However if you just want to go with the video game, then yeah it’s Caine. I think it was correct of White Wolf to veto Troika on this one as Caine isn’t meant to be your friend or someone you can even interact with. He’s supposed to be closer to a force of nature that causes the story to move forward.
He doesn't even cause the story to move forward though. Also in one of the Gehenna books he is literally traveling around with Beckket watching the end of the world. His only other appearance at all in any version of the game is a single module, again for Gehenna. Considering Bloodlines is all about concern around Gehenna and White Wolf's own inconsistency...I think they should have just let it be a fun easter egg.
Even for the father of all Vampires, having to kill all your children by your own hand would be extremely fucking tedious and likely not work anyway; Supposedly "dead" clans and bloodlines like the Cappadocians or the Salubri pop up again all the time. It's like trying to mow a lawn by plucking individual blades of grass with your fingertips. More likely he's trying to act in counter to his more immediate children, the 3rd generation, who are acting through their own children.
@@Michael-bn1oi I agree that Caine hasn't really done much of anything in the AD period, but I was just using the book's guidelines in how to run a story in where the players don't interact directly with the main characters of the setting or deal with antediluvian level of power. Similar to how disciplines can have more than 5 dots, or how PC in D&D can technically go above level 20. Caine doesn't have a stat sheet afterall, it just says "You fucking lose". And to be fair, I wouldn't count Beckket as some nobody. He's basically the setting's historian. Anyway back to my point. Caine being in the game is similar to the "Antediluvian" being in the game... In that it's fake. There isn't really an antediluvian in that sarcophagus. But all the characters in the game are led to believe so, which then forces LaCroix to make an overt power play and be too aggressive, etc. The mere possibility of an antediluvian moves the story forward, but at no point do you actually interact with it by diablerizing it or being possessed by it, etc. Like you mentioned, Caine is essentially just an overpowered hobo that doesn't do anything relevant anymore. He doesn't give a fuck who controls L.A.
God didn't give Caine powers but he learned them from Lilith, Then Caine abandoned Lilith and went to Ubar. Where he ruled for some time and renamed it the City of Enoch. Later on Caine embraced three childer, (2nd generation) who then created the 13 antediluvians, (3rd generation). After Caine left just before the flood and left the 2nd and 3rd generations untended the antideluvians rose up and slew their sires in rebellion. And then the 3rd generation sired the 4th generation before the great flood came.
My first playthrough was Nosferatu, and as I always say, If given choice, I would do that way again, but I still don't recommend it for first time players.
Still gotta love the fact that based on the TTRPG, when they say Cain is immortal, they MEAN it. Since he has access to basically every vampire discipline, even the ones that no longer exist, at a level you can't match, AND has the biblical Mark of Cain to return any damage dealt to him sevenfold on his attacker...The rules for fighting him if you're stupid/crazy enough to try are literally "You Lose".
I loved playing a Malkavian on my first playthrough. The dialogue choices and unique interactions where so great. And the whispers in my ear where fun to try and interpret, as if I was really a brand new Malkavian vampire learning the ropes of my gift/curse.
cabbie is implied to be caine. But in cannon , caine was sealed in a cave during the events of bloodlines , so a lot of people speculate that he is a malkavian that believes he's caine
first time playing this game , and one thing i really really like is the facial expressions when you talk to someone , the way the move and talk or how their hair moves around (long hair ofc)
Being a Nosferatu would suck, not just because of your appearance but also because the Niktuku are coming for your blood and there's nothing you can do about it.
They later get around to addressing where god got his powers from, namely he studied under lilith and consumed her blood, and when he set out to use those powers a triad of angels tried to persuade him against using those powers and cursed him with the main weaknesses (sunlight, thirst for blood, and a inability to die)
The driver is speculated to be Cain as his aura is different than any other creature in the game. And the problem with bloodlines 2's wait time is they decided to cash in on bloodhunt AND "supposed" script rewrites.

If you like the video game, maybe one day you can try the TTRPG. I suggest "Vampire: The Masquerade V5" but you can also start with V20 (V20 is an older version, it's a 20th year anniversary edition. V5 came out after) But anyways, this is a good way to get yourself more into the World of Darkness (WoD for short) setting. One more thing, the game is loosely based of lore/mechanics of the 3th version "V3 Revised edition" of Vampire. V1 / V2 / V3 Revised edition / V20 Anniversary edition / V5
Please, don't doom the guy. V5 (with the exception of some of the lore) is a horrible game. V20 is fun, interesting and closer to what he should expect coming from Bloodlines.
Personally, would rather mix the 2 up when playing V5. I like some of the changes...but others...I get it was done for the sake of 'simplicity' but the result is the extreme nerfing of some of the best, and most unique, Clans in the game! Main personal issue is what they did with the disciplines - forcing Clans or Bloodlines who hated one another together in ways that directly contradict the lore of the game! Like how the Tereme and Assamite's (Banu Haquim), now have to share "Blood Magic"...even though the two have so much distrust and hatred between them that there's absolutely no way they'd ever share their secrets! Not if Vienna fell, not if the Assamite's rebranded and joined the Camarilla, just NO! Quietus and Thaumaturgy each had a lot of time and energy put into developing them, no way the paths and rituals would just be abandoned or shared at the drop of a hat! 🙄 Same with Necromancy and Obtenebration being turned into the shared discipline of Oblivion! The Lasombra wouldn't suddenly abandon, or share, their unique secrets with the Giovanni (Clan Hecata) or visa versa! The Tremere already spent centuries trying to crack Necromancy, just giving a version of it to the Lasombra? Out of the question! Besides, Obtenebration was a very unique ability, it was NOT Necromancy. It was something else entirely...part of why the Lasombra were so feared to begin with! Combining the two, for simplicities sake, is absurd! Speaking of groups with a history of hating one another...Clan Hecata! No way the Harbringers of Skulls and Samedi would give up on their age-old grudge over the Giovanni's betrayal and join them! Adding any Nagaraja to said Clan - who had 0 ties to any of them beyond their Necromancy discipline - is just plain Lazy! If anything, the Nagaraja's origins were more closely tied to the Tremere than they were the Giovanni / Cappadocians! And even that is solely through the similarity of: Mortal Mages tried to create their own Vampires, succeed, but at what cost? 🙄 That doesn't even cover all the disciplines that now only exist if you master and combine other disciplines... meaning essentially Anyone can learn what used to be unique skills, like Serpentis and Vicissitude, should they get the formula just right! While the Setites and Tzimisce have to work overtime to master abilities that they've already spent several lifetimes mastering...it's just a HUGE mess! Not to mention all the restructuring that had to take place in order to justify the changes! V20 Tzimisce: Animalism, Vicissitude, + Auspex to V5: Animalism, Dominate, + Protean. V20 Setites: Obfuscate, Prescence, + Serpentis to V5: Obfuscate, Prescence, Protean...and better somehow grab 2 in Fortitude too if you want access to the former level 5 skill 'Heart of Darkness'...🙄 Not the only Clans to be restructured of course, just some of the most notable! In order to get through a game of V5, I either have to restructure it, so the clans have Full Access to their Original V20 Disciplines, or...just play V20 and not worry about it! I don't see the justification behind letting Brujah, Gangrel, Nosferatu, Toreador, and Ventrue keep all their abilities across generations while all the other Clans / Bloodlines aren't allowed do the same!
Yeah it's Cain, but in the table top rpg there was a multiple ending where each of our grand daddy vampires awaken with a different kind of end of the world.

So a lot of comments here are saying the cab driver is Cain. That might not be the case. While I forget his name, in the white wolf lore there is a Malkavian vampire who thinks he is Cain, and tries to be where he thinks he is needed. So it is possible the cab driver is them.

The history of Cain and Abel is more about who tell the history then everything else. The conclusion is "if you follow your superior orders and do what is told, you ll go to heaven, otherwise god ll be very unhapy and you ll go to hell." In the perspective of the revolution and down of the dominat class, cain is more like a symbol of rebellion, and this is a unfolding of the dissatisfaction, present nowsday for most people who feel injuscticed for the system. In the end, Cain is more like a hero, hwo had the courage to face the "god".

If I recall correctly, Troika wanted to confirm that the cab driver is Caine but it was vetoed by White Wolf. I think files associated with him like dialogue and the model / textures still have the prefix "caine" in the game files. There are other theories where the cab driver is possessed/dominated by Caine.

For a long while I thought Jack was Caine, with him seemingly having his fingers in some of the things that happened in the game and how knowledgeable he was. The moment I had my conversation with the cab driver though, I realized he was Caine instead.

A fun little fact - while the 'basic' version of that myth says Cain was cursed by God ,with further weaknesses placed upon him by angels, the some of the more mysticism-oriented Kindred hold a different belief. In their interpretation, God demanded of Cain and Abel a offering of what was precious to them. And while Abel offered the blood of the lamb, Cain gave onto God what was most important to him - his own beloved brother. In that version, vampirism was no curse but a blessing, a reward from God bestowed upon Cain for his act of devotion. Then the other weaknesses - the doom by sun, the fear of fire - were still placed onto him by angels, but here those were acts of spite, made by the angelic host jealous that God elevated mere mortal instead of them.
Fun fact: if you use console commands to get exp points as a Malkavian right at the start of the game your character actualy confesses that he cheated to Jack

My favorite theory about the cab driver: Due to his somewhat older European accent, his ability to befriend one of the oldest vampires in the game and lastly his immense aura at the end means that he might be the protagonist of the previous Vampire The Masquerade video-game. It was a Diablo-esque game and *********MAJOR SPOILERS********** at the end of that game he beats and diablirizes an Antedeluvian. In truth though the general consensus is that it is Caine himself and that the whole sarcophagus questline was just a mcguffin quest laid by Caine and Jack to take down the current corrupt Camarilla and hit the Quei-Jin in the stomach and regain some balance.
I used go play this game once per year. And since my first time through I always figured Cain to be the Cab driver, just getting used to the new world, gathering information and watching, guiding. The Malkavian playthrough later down the line cemented this thought.
I respect your stance on religion, I used to be that annoying atheist kid at some point, though it didn't last long. I'm not really religious, but I've learned a different perspective on the matter that's more helpful to me and certainly less aggravating to those who is.

The Taxi Driver is Caine. There's a lot of evidence, especially if you play a Malkavian.
Those powers (disciplines) were actually taught by Lilith (first woman) and not god according to the TTRPG lore. The vampirism side effects were given by each curse that the Creator gave him. Lilith is the woman in that painting that you need to slash during one of those early missions.
My first play through of this game was Malkavians. And this was also my first introduction to the vampire world and lore. And I LOVED it. And I LOVE Malkavians. xD

Since I enjoyed this game alot I've dived deeper into the whole biblical backstory. As it turns out Cain didn't have any powers at first but after he met up with Lilith who had mastered the art of witchcraft, Cain got her to give him abilities that we can see in the game. After getting what he wanted, Cain left Lilith behind. That was the thing with the gallery painting slashing as well.
Yahweh was angry with Cain for the murder, but murder had not yet been forbidden, so Yahweh punished Cain to the fullest extent that He could without being a hypocrite. Reading the bible chronologically as a story makes it clear that Yahweh has certain expectations for behavior, and the law primarily exists because people keep doing things they should know better than to do, requiring it to then be forbidden. Yahweh's attitude towards the law is also different from our modern legal system: in modern law, ignorance is no excuse, but under the moral law, God does excuse ignorance. God never explicitly forbade murder until after Cain murdered. Cain is the reason that law was put in place. You cannot be repudiated out of ignorance of the law. You cannot be retroactively guilty. This is proven by the fact that Yahweh did not just kill Cain, since the penalty for murder under the law is death. If Cain was subject to the law, he should have been killed. But he wasn't, because that law did not exist yet at that time. Yahweh hated Cain for what he did, but Yahweh would not be unfair and retroactively punish Cain, even if Cain arguably deserved it.
Paul in the New Testament confirms this in his own writings, as he was a highly educated man; being what amounts to a lawyer, a priest, and a historian who was also fluent in several languages. Paul said that the whole of the law can be summarized as loving your own people and loving God, and putting them first in everything you do. Any man who does this CANNOT sin, he CANNOT be found in violation of the law. In summary, God expected us to love our own people and to love Him, and we kept disappointing Him. All the laws put in place are best understood from viewing Yahweh as an exasperated parent who has to keep forbidding more elaborate and specific things because His kids are acting out and doing shit they know they shouldn't. A parent doesn't want to have to set a specific rule saying you can't be out past 11 on a school night and you can't steal cigarettes and smoke them behind the garage. One would hope that's just implied.
It's the same idea here. It wasn't against the law to murder anybody until Cain murdered Abel. And if the law was retroactive, Yahweh would have just killed Cain instead of cursing him and sending him into exile. If we were better children, forbidding things like murder or adultery wouldn't be in the law because they wouldn't have to be. We wouldn't be doing those things. The only reason the law exists at all is because we stole cigarettes and smoked them behind the garage. So now the law has to exist. We proved we can't be trusted to just do whatever we want, which is what Yahweh ORIGINALLY told Adam.

I actually started playing this recently and I had a really funny interaction as a Brujah; I went to the church club in downtown and the bartender acts as a surrogate confessional booth to get drinks, so when she’s asking me about my life and what sins I’ve commited, I held off on saying anything (since it was vampire related) and then I got the option “I voted Republican once.” I said that and she goes “damn…there’s no drink here that’s gonna wash away a sin that bad.”
The identity of the cab driver depends on if you care about the source material or not. In the pen and paper roleplaying books, Caine actively hates all of his children due to the millennia of drama and betrayal and would NEVER help Jack. He would slaughter him for merely trying to talk to him for Caine has long stopped caring about vampire politics. Canonically the cab driver is a Malkavian who thinks he’s Caine.
However if you just want to go with the video game, then yeah it’s Caine. I think it was correct of White Wolf to veto Troika on this one as Caine isn’t meant to be your friend or someone you can even interact with. He’s supposed to be closer to a force of nature that causes the story to move forward.
He doesn't even cause the story to move forward though. Also in one of the Gehenna books he is literally traveling around with Beckket watching the end of the world.
His only other appearance at all in any version of the game is a single module, again for Gehenna.
Considering Bloodlines is all about concern around Gehenna and White Wolf's own inconsistency...I think they should have just let it be a fun easter egg.
Even for the father of all Vampires, having to kill all your children by your own hand would be extremely fucking tedious and likely not work anyway; Supposedly "dead" clans and bloodlines like the Cappadocians or the Salubri pop up again all the time. It's like trying to mow a lawn by plucking individual blades of grass with your fingertips. More likely he's trying to act in counter to his more immediate children, the 3rd generation, who are acting through their own children.
@@Michael-bn1oi I agree that Caine hasn't really done much of anything in the AD period, but I was just using the book's guidelines in how to run a story in where the players don't interact directly with the main characters of the setting or deal with antediluvian level of power. Similar to how disciplines can have more than 5 dots, or how PC in D&D can technically go above level 20. Caine doesn't have a stat sheet afterall, it just says "You fucking lose". And to be fair, I wouldn't count Beckket as some nobody. He's basically the setting's historian.
Anyway back to my point. Caine being in the game is similar to the "Antediluvian" being in the game... In that it's fake. There isn't really an antediluvian in that sarcophagus. But all the characters in the game are led to believe so, which then forces LaCroix to make an overt power play and be too aggressive, etc. The mere possibility of an antediluvian moves the story forward, but at no point do you actually interact with it by diablerizing it or being possessed by it, etc. Like you mentioned, Caine is essentially just an overpowered hobo that doesn't do anything relevant anymore. He doesn't give a fuck who controls L.A.

God didn't give Caine powers but he learned them from Lilith, Then Caine abandoned Lilith and went to Ubar. Where he ruled for some time and renamed it the City of Enoch.
Later on Caine embraced three childer, (2nd generation) who then created the 13 antediluvians, (3rd generation). After Caine left just before the flood and left the 2nd and 3rd generations untended the antideluvians rose up and slew their sires in rebellion.

Still gotta love the fact that based on the TTRPG, when they say Cain is immortal, they MEAN it. Since he has access to basically every vampire discipline, even the ones that no longer exist, at a level you can't match, AND has the biblical Mark of Cain to return any damage dealt to him sevenfold on his attacker...The rules for fighting him if you're stupid/crazy enough to try are literally "You Lose".
I loved playing a Malkavian on my first playthrough. The dialogue choices and unique interactions where so great. And the whispers in my ear where fun to try and interpret, as if I was really a brand new Malkavian vampire learning the ropes of my gift/curse.
cabbie is implied to be caine. But in cannon , caine was sealed in a cave during the events of bloodlines , so a lot of people speculate that he is a malkavian that believes he's caine

Being a Nosferatu would suck, not just because of your appearance but also because the Niktuku are coming for your blood and there's nothing you can do about it.
They later get around to addressing where god got his powers from, namely he studied under lilith and consumed her blood, and when he set out to use those powers a triad of angels tried to persuade him against using those powers and cursed him with the main weaknesses (sunlight, thirst for blood, and a inability to die)
The driver is speculated to be Cain as his aura is different than any other creature in the game. And the problem with bloodlines 2's wait time is they decided to cash in on bloodhunt AND "supposed" script rewrites.

If you like the video game, maybe one day you can try the TTRPG. I suggest "Vampire: The Masquerade V5" but you can also start with V20 (V20 is an older version, it's a 20th year anniversary edition. V5 came out after) But anyways, this is a good way to get yourself more into the World of Darkness (WoD for short) setting. One more thing, the game is loosely based of lore/mechanics of the 3th version "V3 Revised edition" of Vampire.

Personally, would rather mix the 2 up when playing V5. I like some of the changes...but others...I get it was done for the sake of 'simplicity' but the result is the extreme nerfing of some of the best, and most unique, Clans in the game!
Main personal issue is what they did with the disciplines - forcing Clans or Bloodlines who hated one another together in ways that directly contradict the lore of the game! Like how the Tereme and Assamite's (Banu Haquim), now have to share "Blood Magic"...even though the two have so much distrust and hatred between them that there's absolutely no way they'd ever share their secrets! Not if Vienna fell, not if the Assamite's rebranded and joined the Camarilla, just NO! Quietus and Thaumaturgy each had a lot of time and energy put into developing them, no way the paths and rituals would just be abandoned or shared at the drop of a hat! 🙄
Same with Necromancy and Obtenebration being turned into the shared discipline of Oblivion! The Lasombra wouldn't suddenly abandon, or share, their unique secrets with the Giovanni (Clan Hecata) or visa versa! The Tremere already spent centuries trying to crack Necromancy, just giving a version of it to the Lasombra? Out of the question! Besides, Obtenebration was a very unique ability, it was NOT Necromancy. It was something else entirely...part of why the Lasombra were so feared to begin with! Combining the two, for simplicities sake, is absurd!
Speaking of groups with a history of hating one another...Clan Hecata! No way the Harbringers of Skulls and Samedi would give up on their age-old grudge over the Giovanni's betrayal and join them! Adding any Nagaraja to said Clan - who had 0 ties to any of them beyond their Necromancy discipline - is just plain Lazy! If anything, the Nagaraja's origins were more closely tied to the Tremere than they were the Giovanni / Cappadocians! And even that is solely through the similarity of: Mortal Mages tried to create their own Vampires, succeed, but at what cost? 🙄
That doesn't even cover all the disciplines that now only exist if you master and combine other disciplines... meaning essentially Anyone can learn what used to be unique skills, like Serpentis and Vicissitude, should they get the formula just right! While the Setites and Tzimisce have to work overtime to master abilities that they've already spent several lifetimes mastering...it's just a HUGE mess! Not to mention all the restructuring that had to take place in order to justify the changes! V20 Tzimisce: Animalism, Vicissitude, + Auspex to V5: Animalism, Dominate, + Protean. V20 Setites: Obfuscate, Prescence, + Serpentis to V5: Obfuscate, Prescence, Protean...and better somehow grab 2 in Fortitude too if you want access to the former level 5 skill 'Heart of Darkness'...🙄 Not the only Clans to be restructured of course, just some of the most notable!
In order to get through a game of V5, I either have to restructure it, so the clans have Full Access to their Original V20 Disciplines, or...just play V20 and not worry about it! I don't see the justification behind letting Brujah, Gangrel, Nosferatu, Toreador, and Ventrue keep all their abilities across generations while all the other Clans / Bloodlines aren't allowed do the same!
Yeah it's Cain, but in the table top rpg there was a multiple ending where each of our grand daddy vampires awaken with a different kind of end of the world.

So a lot of comments here are saying the cab driver is Cain. That might not be the case. While I forget his name, in the white wolf lore there is a Malkavian vampire who thinks he is Cain, and tries to be where he thinks he is needed. So it is possible the cab driver is them.

It is not a 100% confirmed or better said, White wolf the owners of World of darkness never confirmed if it really is, but the bigger part of the fandom belives that the cab driver is Cain, even if it is not my group of friends that I play TTRPG´s with, we all have the headcannon that he is, Cain is just a cab driver, because he got bored of being hidden in a cave in middel of buttfucking nowhere.

The history of Cain and Abel is more about who tell the history then everything else. The conclusion is "if you follow your superior orders and do what is told, you ll go to heaven, otherwise god ll be very unhapy and you ll go to hell." In the perspective of the revolution and down of the dominat class, cain is more like a symbol of rebellion, and this is a unfolding of the dissatisfaction, present nowsday for most people who feel injuscticed for the system. In the end, Cain is more like a hero, hwo had the courage to face the "god".
