I believe Rush is my favorite band not only because of the awesome music but because of the awesome friendships they have for each other. It resonates through their music. Anyone who can relate becomes a fan ❤️😎
Rush was my first concert, kinsman field house in Edmonton. In 77 I think. Thanks rush for giving me great music most of my life. Interesting how a man of 58 can cry over the loss of Neil. Thumbs up to Neil.
Listening to any of Rushs' early works was like going on a journey through space and time, exploring new worlds.!! They were so far ahead of their time.! R.I.P Neil and my condolences to the Peart family and to both Geddy and Alex.
'Lakeside Park'; I heard it's about the lakefront park and pier at Port Dalhousie, Canada. I've been there it's one of my favorite places every time I hear that song reminds me of it. RIP Neil Peart.
55 times here my man.....I notched My Soul Every Time and Had the moments Tattooed on my Heart ....and wherever I am in 2112...i'll have RUSH Along For The Ride! Cheers
The Song is called "Before & After" it's off the first Rush Album. Yes it is Rush playing it. The music was inserted by the people who made the Rockumentary. Between commercials they would play full songs, but I was running out of cassette tapes that day, and I figure I would just tape the talking parts. : ) Anyway thanks for watching, Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112
Growing up in Toronto friends of mine always said Rush is garbage. I went crazy for Rush these so called friends were into Duran Duran so that explains it all. To all of them up yours Rush is the best and always will be.
Rush and Duran Duran are both incredible bands, Rush definitely have something else for sure! Duran Duran are for parties but Rush is for dreaming and I’ve always preferred Rush
I remember this on the radio around 1981, never got to hear the whole thing. So glad it's here on youtube to finally hear the whole thing, thanks for posting.
I heard this show on 102.5 WDVE out of pittsburgh and recorded it from the radio in 1983.wow that was awhile ago. i think i listened to it a thousand times what a great show .There was a lot of music in it and the show lasted two hours including commercial breaks.
Thanks for the post Joe. I wasn't quite old enough to see them at the high schools nearby when they were playing there, but I did finally see them in 1982 with the Payolas opening for them, and then again in 1990. Both concerts were at the old Maple Leaf Gardens, and both shows were great.
I remember when I was in Jr High School 77 and heard of Rush and my Drummer was talking about Neil I thought no other Drummer could touch John Bonham But Neil Blew me Away R.I.P.
WMMS in Cleveland started playing them in 1973 or so when I was a highschool freshman. Saw them in 1975. At least a dozen concerts later I am still in awe of these guys. Performed EVERYTHING live that came out of the studio. The cities around Lakes Erie and Ontario, Toronto, Hamilton, Rochester, Buffalo, Erie, Pittsburgh, Youngstown, Cleveland, Toledo, Detroit and London kept these guys going when the rest of the world was wankin' off to disco and technobop. THE greatest three member band ever! Not bad when you consider their contemporaries were ZZTOP and The Police. RIP Neil. Long live the Spirit of Radio as embodied by RUSH!
Mind blowing that one of the greatest rock lyricist of all time got the job by default after Alex and Geddy weren’t into it at that time. 😳🤔😀🔥❤️. To think of all the amazing catalog of song lyrics that may never have been if that it never occurred.
I probably listened to this (and taped it,too ) back then, since I grew up in the Detroit area (on other side of the border) and always made a point to listen to anything Rush related. Thanks for posting. I might have this on cassette somewhere ,but I'd have to find it and it would probably sound like crap. :P Thanks.
@spyderwebz2112 I cut the music out originally from the old cassette tape because I didn't have extra tapes to record the whole thing at that time. So I already had the RUSH songs on vinyl, so I cut out the songs out to give room on the tapes just the interviews and the narrator. So that's why you hear bits and pieces cut out. Thanks for watching, Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112
John Rutsey did NOT "leave the band". The band let him go, due to concerns about him being a diabetic, and his ability to go on grueling tours due to his condition.
What is that music in the background starting at 00:46 in? It sounds like outakes from Caress Of Steel, but I'm not familliar with the music. Is it someone doing a very good early RUSH impression???
Hey Man! Thanks for putting this RUSH here! I grew up listening to and later singing RUSH in a band with my brother and cousin. Where can I buy this movie? And the other one "Beyond a Lighted Stage"? Thanks
I want to thank Canada for the entertainers, beer, and women with large breast they have given the world. There were a few misses, but most were wonderful.
i feel kinda sorry for the drummer who auditioned after Neil, jeez, it's like "alright, well thanks for showing up at least buddy, see ya, eh!" no fuckin way anybody gonna be able to top that
John Rutsey was let go because he had health issues (diabetes) that he wasn't taking care of (drinking heavily, etc) and the manager felt he wouldn't survive a tour. Neil came along after that, as the result of an audition.

John didn't quit the band. He had sugar diabetes and wasn't able to handle the upcoming tours due to drinking. The record company basically fired him and hired Neil perret. Get your facts straight. But all worked out great.
I must say as more or less a Canadian musician that people are very relucatant to back you or belive in you UNTIL you do someting elsewhere and their fanbase firstly was Cleveland! Only THEN did Canada start to notice their own band!
I think Rush made a big mistake by replacing Terry Brown as their producer. They should have brought him back after Grace Under Pressure. I've realized that in recent years but back in 80s I felt like something was wrong . G under P didn't even sound so good! The sound of Geddy's Bass wasn't even there! even in a great bsss songs like Distant Early Warning. Going to England to bring a Madonna producer who'd never heard of Rush was simple Stupid. All Rush albums suffered after Signals. They tried to sound like something which they were not. If it wasn't for this Trio's great musicianship I wouldn't haven't stayed for those 36 years.

You didn't cry alone my friend such a loss
Eddie Ray
Damn right
My first introduction to Rush in 78 and a love affair began
Man of 55 had tears when I got the news about Neil
RIP Professor
51 here. Broke me up bad. We lived in the time of giants.
Same here, first band ever seen live, at first high school dance. Wasn't hooked though, 'till I got their first album..
Listening to any of Rushs' early works was like going on a journey through space and time, exploring new worlds.!! They were so far ahead of their time.! R.I.P Neil and my condolences to the Peart family and to both Geddy and Alex.

I Saw Rush 32 Times!
Thank You
Wow you are lucky.

well-put, sir.
I remember when I was playing Rush in the car and my mom said "let's put on some real music" and it triggered me so hard.
I briefly lived in Toronto from the Bronx. It was my breath of fresh air. I recall Max Webster being Toronto’s band second to Rush.
Rush and Duran Duran are both incredible bands, Rush definitely have something else for sure! Duran Duran are for parties but Rush is for dreaming and I’ve always preferred Rush
My mom hated rush at first but now a days she likes them
I still can't believe Neil is gone.
Thanks for taking this out of the vault and sharing it with the world!
Thank you Joe Drums for uploading this documentary. My bong and I enjoyed it very much.
I remember this on the radio around 1981, never got to hear the whole thing. So glad it's here on youtube to finally hear the whole thing, thanks for posting.
Never saw this until now. Thanks for posting this when you did. Priceless
Thank you so much for uploading this. Timeless stuff.

excellent!

Dang, I remember this interview from the 80's. I was glued to my radio. I taped it - I probably still have the tape.
Me too! Still have it somewhere.
1987
I’m glad Geddy and Alex made the right decision! R.I.P Neil Peart

Caress of Steel = Too advanced for humans at that time.
Caress of Steel / Rush = Rock n roll for smart people.
Indeed.
Caress of Steel was always, and remains, my favorite work of theirs. Amazing stuff.
Rush's most underrated album!
I like three songs on it and the rest is too dark for my taste .My fave is Snakes and Arrows , overall.
Awesome!!! I've never heard this. Thanks for the upload.
Mind blowing that one of the greatest rock lyricist of all time got the job by default after Alex and Geddy weren’t into it at that time. 😳🤔😀🔥❤️. To think of all the amazing catalog of song lyrics that may never have been if that it never occurred.
Each choice we make decides our path!
Great rare clips.
I probably listened to this (and taped it,too ) back then, since I grew up in the Detroit area (on other side of the border) and always made a point to listen to anything Rush related. Thanks for posting. I might have this on cassette somewhere ,but I'd have to find it and it would probably sound like crap. :P Thanks.
I have this on cassette too!! There's a cut of By Tor and the Snowdog I beleive from St' Louis that Geddy goes off on and it's wild!
Lucky for me that Rush's first two albums didn't catch on right away. I got the cassettes for a buck each in a dollar store. And I was hooked.
One of the baddest rock bands in history these guys earned every single thing they have they are truly the Musicians musician
I throughly enjoyed this. Thank you so much
The first album was fun and hard rocking. After Neil joined it was like full afterburner.
@spyderwebz2112 I cut the music out originally from the old cassette tape because I didn't have extra tapes to record the whole thing at that time. Amazing guys.

Thanks for the upload !!
their accents were really heavy back then, and also Neil's voice sounds so much younger
That's because he WAS younger, you dumbass!
Ged looks a little toasted in the pic with the Runaways.
2112 love
just dealing with what has happened.............
RIP NEIL.
I wish someone would post this beaut from about three years later:

40 years plus, I think they overcame that.
The past is the past long live future bands
I want to thank Canada for the entertainers, beer, and women with large breast they have given the world. There were a few misses, but most were wonderful.
I lived in detreoit metro area for most of my adult life (Clinton Twp) What stationg what this? WRIF or WLLZ?
I guess they forgot about Neil Young when referring to the 1960's.
i feel kinda sorry for the drummer who auditioned after Neil, jeez, it's like "alright, well thanks for showing up at least buddy, see ya, eh!" no fuckin way anybody gonna be able to top that

where did you get this from?
Neil would have been a good bee keeper . Ya just get used to the buzz .
John didn't quit the band. He had sugar diabetes and wasn't able to handle the upcoming tours due to drinking. The record company basically fired him and hired Neil perret. Get your facts straight. But all worked out great.

Great bio eh
