Great video Sean. Couple of comments and questions- Does the group head and portafilter get hotter if you leave it on for longer? Because it’s a small boiler it might need a bit longer to heat up that substantial amount of metal so I’d be interested to know if it’s hotter after 30 minutes. Also would running hot water through the group and handle from the machine itself be a viable alternative to using your kettle to heat them? The dripping steam wand will be repairable, but you’ll need a machine tech or someone with experience to do it. It’s unlikely to be caused by spring tension if there’s a spring on the knob, it will be something else. It’s probably a needle valve and it’s not forming a proper seal. Either because there’s an o-ring in there that needs to be replaced or because it’s a metal facing seal and there’s a bit of scale in there stopping it from fully closing.

No worries Leroy. Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it does get hotter the longer you leave it for. But from testing (putting my hand on it) it doesn’t get super hot. Running water through the group head and portafilter certainly helps but doesn’t get super hot. That’s why I’ve chosen to go with hot water from the kettle. 😎 I would take it to a tech, but I don’t think it’s worth it for the price that it’ll cost me to get someone to look at it for me. 🔥

Great review! This video helped me decide to get this espresso machine. Do you have any recommendations for these two coffee grinders: the Gemilai CRM9012 or the CRM9015A? My current coffee grinder is unsatisfactory.

      Hey,
Thank you so much for commenting and letting me know that my review helped you on your journey. That is huge news for me and warms my heart to know that you'll have an awesome coffee experience.
Unfortunately, I cannot help when it comes to those two grinders you mentioned, as I have never used them.
The grinder that I own is the Eureka Perfetto, and it is the best investment I've ever made for my home coffee bar. It grinds for both espresso and filter coffee, and for the price point, it is an incredible all-rounder.
So if you have the budget and if they are available in your country, I strongly encourage you to look into the Eureka grinders. You'll have a great time.
      Cheers,
      Sean

Hi TDM, hope you are not too busy, may i ask does your steaming wand have a consistent spur of steam? Im having a hard time steaming milk because the CRM3005g is having a hard time letting out steam consistently

    • @thedrummingbarista
      @thedrummingbarista  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there,
This is a great question. Just to make it clear, I no longer own this machine. However, during the time that I did own it, I never struggled with the steam wand pressure or consistency. It might sound a little silly to ask, but are you turning the handle on the side of the machine all the way open?
I would also recommend pressing the button to turn on the steam wand and letting the pressure build up for at least a minute or so before steaming your milk.
I hope this helps. As you can imagine, it's hard to know what's happening with your machine without being there and seeing it in action. If the problem continues, it could be an issue with the pump that helps build up the pressure for the steam wand.
      Cheers,
      The Drumming Barista

So with good and structured maintenance the machine will last you well. Great to hear you are thinking about purchasing the machine. But what I can say is, during the time of owning the machine I never worried about the pressure of the machine and it never seemed to be a problem during the extraction stage.

@@haidoan89i ended up with Dedica, SOLELY DUE to the the quick heating. As soon as u turn on the machine, 40 seconds and it is ready. So including my prep (hand grinding using 1zpresso J-max), i get my espresso within 5-minutes. This is critical to me since I need myself to be quick as possible. Compared to the 8-10mins time it takes for the Gemilai. Tho i still plan to get 3005G some time in the future, which i will be using in the Province when im in Vacation and fast heating doesnt matter to me there. 😊

Hi there. I am now using the Ascaso Steel Duo PID home espresso machine. It’s leagues above the Gemilai machine that you see in this video review. But it should be for an extra $2000 NZD.
The Gemilai is a fantastic starting point for home baristas just starting out that went to dabble with espresso and also for getting used to using a 58mm portafilter. It’s a no thrills machine, that works and does a good job of producing delicious espresso shots and lovely textured milk. 🤩
