So is this the perfect pocket drone or a jack of all trades and master of none? What do you think? Personally I can't wait to get my hands on this and get playing....
The avata 2 really is a jack of all trades except for .... the stupid yaw tumble (props stalling) that will show up in pretty much every single freestyle maneuver. I wish they would fix that.
Looks useful to me as an introduction to FPV and for those of us who do little time. I have a larger drone and a SLR… that stay in the cupboard as I so little time to use them that simple things work better for me.
Ian, great video about the neo, very excited to see it flying and filming. If it meets my expectations maybe I buy it. I enjoyed the Tello that I had a few years ago. There's something special about tiny drones😀 Greetings from 🇳🇱
Man, I was about to say the same thing. The old mavic pro is still going strong, built like a tank and haven't even upgraded since. I still keep watching these tho lol
Great review Ian. After all the regulations I’ve gone off the bigger drones. Also I find (after having drones since the Parrot and before) there’s only so much I can film. I now mainly use the drone for my backpacking and hiking just to give quick overview of the area. So who knows it could be the perfect drone for someone wanted to just capture those quick snippets - it gets a 👍 from me.
Not for me, but it was about time DJI had a hand take-off instant dronie type machine to rival the HoverAir X1. I expect it will outperform that, and overtake it in the market shortly afterwards !
Already having a few DJI drones I’m kind of interested in something for the “throw it up in the air and shoot” kind of drone now; something small enough to pocket and not need a transmitter. I’m curious about this; but will hold out to learn more about the new Hover and then decide which one is the better value for me.
I have an avata 2 but I was wondering if this might be a good drone to practice manual mode with (assuming it has support for all the avata 2 controllers)
It still might be a good value off the shelf cinewhoop, but specifically for indoor or backyard flight. I held off buying an Avata2 due to the evolving ban in the US, but maybe this would be a better value for short range fun flying if the price/specs are right.
Do you thinkg the NEO can be flown with RC-N3 and Goggles 3 only ? Or does one have to buy the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 or DJI RC Motion 3 to use with the Goggles3 and the NEO ? The reason I ask, is that I just bought a Goggles 3 for my O3 air unit based FPV drones (DJI firmware update on July 30th which has support for O3 now)
Hello Ian! Not too thrilled with Neo. The folding drone has more ingenuity. The Neo will just need upgrades. Maybe a forced pre-introduction and let the consumer make the design changes in real time. Cheers! Brendan
At 135g, most other specs are irrelevant, this will just be great fun. BTW the Tello drone, which is only 80g is also made by DJI, and it is also great fun, although only 100 m range.
Yeah, I meniton that briefly; thought it was actually made by Ryze and sold under the DJI umbrella... But if a timy drone like that can be good fun, we have high hopes for the Neo :)
@@IaninLondon I think the flight control is made by DJI. It has a small logo "powered by DJI" on the box. Back in the days I remember DJI offered electronics for OEMs, back then most drones were custom-made octa-copters. The Tello has very interesting education features - it can be programmed to do things using a programming language. It would be very nice if the Neo is something like its big brother.
Hi Ian. Great useful vid, thank you. Long term subscriber here, having had a Phantom 3, Mavic Air and now the Mini 3 Pro. If I’m looking to do FPV, do I just buy the V3 goggles and use it with the Mini 3 Pro. Or buy the Neo and V3 goggles? The FPV use would be in woodland and landscape terrain. My concern is with the reviews on the Neo’s performance in windy environments. Please do keep up the great work👏💪👍
My Neo arrived yesterday but I'm still in Berlin so I haven't even had a chance to test it out yet. You ask some good questions, and I would say that you do not get a very good FPV experience by switching a standard camera drone like the Mini 3 Pro into FPV mode, and you are much better off using a proper FPV model like the avata 2 or, possibly, the Neo, depending on how it performs with my testing over the next week or so.👍🏻
32g of storage can hold an hour of 4k footage, so 22g should be good for about 30-40 minutes. I'm not sure why everyone forgets that you can download footage to your phone or tablet from almost all DJI drones... I do it all the time. You can use their WiFi transfer thru the app or plug it in. No big deal, especially if they set it up to do it with the drone turned off.
It is early in the day and I may not be thinking clearly, but I am considering writing a play in which the main character’s last words are, “A Neo, a Neo, my kingdom for a Neo.” (Cheers, buddy. Thanks for the overview.)
Very interesting I will be getting one even though my Avata 2 is still in the box. I have been so busy on other things. We are excited however cos our little You Tube channel just hit 1,006 subs and we have earnt 88p so far 👍😂Can you even remember that time lol. 😀. I assume you have retired from normal work now with you big move to the south downs
Aha! Well done on your monetization step! It's nice when it's a hobby that pays you a bit of a monthly bonus too.... Yes, I quit the job in the City when I moved.... :)
I would have much preferred a little heavier and longer battery life and AN SD CARD. Sub 250 is what I was hoping for. That lack of SD card could be enough to make me pass on this one.
It's no different from the Avata's and FPV, Manual mode allows for the max top speed because you can fly at a basically unhinged angle that isn't going to be stable on a standard mode trying to keep it behaving in the air.
Highly disagree with your luke warm take on this drone. Even as a professional drone pilot, I think this drone will be revolutionary in the sense that it will combine gimbal drone features with FPV in a way that’s never been done. Also in an extremely small form factor that was previously reserved for toys. The content creation potential is off the charts
I think I'm pretty positive on it and I do say at the end I can't wait to get my hands on it. You're right; it will definitely allow more immediate and spontanious content creation;....
Not for me, I can't see it being any good in the wind, but what puts me off is internal storage it won't take long to fill, so if you got the flymore combo with the extra batteries your probably have to empty the storage before you can them and that's not anquick thing. But I will be interested to see the youtubers on this trying to sell it to us like it's the best thing since sliced cake, lol 😁👌👍 🇬🇧
16m/s is probably because of some EU regulation so it will maybe be a C0 drone? And why the hell do DJI have the 3rd series of incompabile remotes that are the same?

We've been leaking details of the DJI Neo for a couple of months now, we're excited for this one arrive 🤩
You have been a great source of info as well!!! Think I'll be plugging you a fair bit next week 😉

Yes; very fair point! I will be practising manula mode with this for sure.....
That tiny little NEO is going to be loud as heck
UK laws need revamping 🫠.
More drone spec's were released recently by Jasper Ellens over at X. Everything but the release date. Thanks for sharing Ian.
I have a 64gb card in my Mini 3 and rarely use more than 8gb in a day, looking forward to DJI's other new drones like the Mini 5 pro.
Nice blackbird tweet!

Dji Neo is a toy 😂
DJI has failed, with total overpriced. so now again they need to down size to get en "normal" people cost range.
Some people mainly in the USA are thinking 10 klm flights
Can you imagine this at 135 grammes in a 10 mph plus wind will never to be seen again
Yeah, I'm thinking 1 Km and never seen again, but let's see what it's like in action :)
So what is the intended purpose and market for this drone? Seems like they wasting their energy with these goofy little drones to me.
Seems like this drone has a very limited camera. I will pass

1/2" sensor 💩but if so cheap who knows may be fun to play with and fly over people.
