    I really appreciate on how you are doing these videos on your hobbie or maybe even a job. You have really helped me out with starting out metal detecting. I am 12 years old and because of you I have some good stuff that I have found and I have also stayed safe . I found a 1821 U.S quarter and I sold it for 700$. Really appreciated this video. Thank you for the help😆😆😆

      Could you do a video on you metal detecting in a neighborhood... I really would like to see what you could find in them. Or maybe like a video on all the most valuable things you have found metal detecting and where you think you found them... if not, the videos you are doing are just fine and they still are fun to watch

    For your pin-pointer leash: make sure the clip is plastic, so you don’t false signal. I hooked two together to get a longer reach under water. I also carry a tube with a few WysiWipes....compressed, biodegradable towels for hygiene, to wipe the brow, or to clean a find.A palm full of water from your drinking bottle is enough to reflate them.

    Thats the bag I used when I worked. HA! Great bag, but I never thought of using for detecting. I use the Lesche digger and just purchased a grave digger nemesis, that I haven't tried yet. I need a dump pouch like that, I like to river detect and find a lot of junk. I will look for one on eBay. I started on an old White's Coinmaster 6000D back in the day, then a Whites XLT which I loved, but finally had to go with the Equinox I have both 600 and 800, I keep the 6" coil on the 800. The 600 is for friends or if I need a back up. Best hobby if you can just keep the newbies following the ethics. Too many cities shutting down parks to detecting. Thanks for the vid, gives me some new ideas.

    Nice equipment! Over the years I have used a lot of the diggers that you have go with the predator raptor. Excellent gear walkthrough. I might add a caution to carrying the medication in your car. Some medications cannot tolerate the extreme heat or cold and can change when cooked or frozen. Don't forget to swap it out frequently so that it doesn't expire. Maybe keep it in a tube on your keys instead. By the way, my keys, where do you carry or put keys so that they don't end up covered in dirt or lost? Any suggestions?

    • @DiggingCanuck

      Digging Canuck Metal Detecting Liz I’m laughing, I know the site, I went to it but there are a lot of bags, what is the make or model of the one you have? It’s tough to because he doesn’t sell them, you have to find a retailer that not only carries his stuff but also has that specific bag. I’m sorry if I’m bugging you it’s just his site is not very user friendly.

    Question I live in New Jersey and I'm about to purchase a ctx 3030 by minelab. Do you ever worry metal detecting alone about your safety? Living here in NJ I've been robbed at gunpoint before and I'm always worry when I'm alone. I was thinking of getting a good can of pepper spray to carry with me just incase. Any recommendations? Thanks!

    • @DiggingCanuck
      @DiggingCanuck  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Richie. I stay away from sketchy and questionable areas when I am alone. It's not worth getting robbed. If I lived in the states I would most definitely carry a weapon. Always be aware of your surroundings when alone. A digging buddy is always the best. When you venture out alone can always use your shovel in defense. Pepper spray is great - I was pepper sprayed in Police College and it will disable most anyone. Great choice on the CTX 3030 !!!

    Nice set up, like your choice for the carrying bag. Would not use Deet, powerful toxin. May be the cause of migraines and other more significant issues. Try natural repellents. Need better/long scoop for beach if you are going to spend significant time there. They are pricey. Happy hunting.

    • @DiggingCanuck
      @DiggingCanuck  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks 925inder :-) I try to use natural when possible, but when the bugs keep biting I whip out the deet. Would love a recommendation as to a good natural repellant. I use OFF botanicals for everyday bugs. Been looking for long handled scoops but like you said...pricey. Will be checking the used offerings. Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

    • @925inder2
      @925inder2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Digging Canuck Metal Detecting I found that natural repellent works just as good as chemical which is for both not 100%. I cannot think of the top of my head which one we are using, I think it has lemongrass in it. Research online for best solution. The scoop I use is about 14 inches - wire mesh and it cost me 50 at Radio world, they do have a longer version expandable I think. While I find it to be a good deal, I would prefer to avoid bending 400 times a day at the beach. I am leaning towards either Ontario scoop or Stealth 720 modified both larger size and similar with octagonal holes which are better for faster sifting. I will get it when I find my first gold as they cost 200 us $ + shipping/ better of to ship to the states and pick up when down there.

    Hi, I've just started metal detecting, brought a Garrett ace 250 series my question is are you ok to detect in most public places obviously with descretion. Regards, Stephen UK

    • @DiggingCanuck
      @DiggingCanuck  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stephen. Great detector to start out with !!! I am not certain as to detecting in the UK. However I do believe a permit is required. You may want to check with your local council. A great way to circumvent this is to obtain permission to detect someone's private property.

      Hello DC, thanks for the advice. With me coming from Staffordshire England, it reminds me of the 'Staffordshire Hoard' which was discovered, gee it must be several years ago now. A metal detectorist got permission from a farmer to search his field in south Staffordshire and 'bingo' the unearthing of gold and gemstones that were plundered from a loosing army in battle probably in the dark ages, where the gold was stripped from their swords and buried in this farmers field. The two of them got £3 million British pounds for their discovery which they split 50-50, 1.5 million each. The last I heard the two of them were arguing, the farmer wanted a bigger split!!! oh well! The gold is on display at Hanley Museum Stoke-on-Trent. Fascinating hobby, thank you for your inspiration!

I just purchased a new Garrett AT Max, and am getting all set for some digging when the ground thaws.I have a small farm in the Missouri Ozarks and have been having a great time finding old tools and implements while digging to install water and electrical lines. Thought it was about time to take my interest to the next level.

    Hi i am new at metal detecting and am wondering how you get permissions in the GTA area?

    • @DiggingCanuck
      @DiggingCanuck  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brian. Depending on where you live, parks and school yards are okay for digging. Same for sports fields (I do not detect the actual field - just the perimeter). Research the oldest parts of your cities, then use google maps to locate the parks and schools in that area. Lots of areas to detect.

    A police officer? I'd send you in first. You'd make a hard target. You lot are sure serious when you go out. I shove my pin pointer in a pocket., no bag no gloves plenty of water. some food and perhaps a thermos of tea. NO knife no nothing. No shovel just a good special flat pick. (our soil is far to hard and dry for a shovel.) I have a hori hori but have never used it. We get away very cheap.
