Thank you Pearljameric. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope some of these tips will help you moving forward. Welcome to the hobby and best of luck on your hunts!
I appreciate videos like this. I decided to start detecting and bought an equinox 600 - I figured if I kept it up, I can move up to a more expensive detector. I started pulling multiple cans from the ground, these tips will help a lot. Thanks again!
Thank you for watching and commenting, GuNN! Those cans can sound amazing at first...after digging a few, it gets frustrating. There's nothing wrong with a Nox 600. I've got the 800 and 900 and the 800 is still my favorite machine! Good luck on your hunts!
I have been metal detecting for about 2 mos and have been watching many videos. This video has the best tips I have seen! My house was built on 1928 and my town was discovered in the 1700s. Even after adjusting all my settings to my Minelab X-Terra Pro most that I have been finding is crushed aluminum. Your video helped explained and was an eye opening to what I have been doing wrong. Thanks this will help me a lot!
Hello, Ladyart! Thank you for watching and commenting! I am glad you enjoyed the tips video. I just wanted to help others know what tips I've learned over the years. Aluminum is frustrating to dig. It zaps our energy and disappoints. Best of luck on your hunts!
Thank you, Joan. I think you're talking about using the pinpoint button on the Nox. I never use it actually, so I wouldn't know. I'll have to investigate that one. Not sure how to answer. I'll play with that one next hunt and see. I'll get back to you on that and good luck on your hunts!
In all my years detecting, I've seen so many people that have no clue how to swing a coil. Some hold it way too high or raise it up at the sides of each sweep. I have followed some of them beach detecting and picked up all the coins they missed. a couple years ago I picked up a silver St.Christopher and chain that one had clearly missed. They'd dug a massive hole that they hadn't even backfilled, and it was right outside the hole close to the surface.
Yes, sir CCT! It's easy to get into bad habits on the swing portion. I never mind detecting places that have been "detected before". Thanks for watching and commenting!
I knew how to swing properly before I even had a detector, and I didnt even watch any TH-cam videos, just from I guess what ever media I did see that had detecorist in them over the years I seen the youtuber paystreak hand a detector to people in various videos, and it seems like people either dont swing at all, think it works standing still, or the swing like a pendulum
@@Treasure-Charger thank you I've been rock hounding and tumbling for a full year now so I figured why not try to incorporate the two hobbies together still have a lot to learn currently using a Tesoro DeLeon a friend loaned me
When I started it was very frowned upon scraping the ground but I always did good but years ago no coil covers lol I go slow over places that been hit very hard for several decades and always find deep coins and valuable jewelry but I also got virgin sites old farm fields with civl war stuff and very old silver cap bust seated but I only get a month s because of the farmers
The coil cover plates do help. I just wanted to share some things that help me. Oh yes, I can't wait to get into the fields again. Good luck on your hunts!
@@Treasure-Charger absolutely get every inch you can get especially back, then 6 inches tops, but I guess was always from the pond that you were the fall signal. I never listen.
I have watched MD videos for many years on YT, your content is excellent because it’s to the point, practical, And your tips are real tips about the work. Please continue with this knowledge sharing.
Thank you very much. I like to explain things the way I would best understand them. Seeing demonstrations is important for my learning process. Hope the tips help and good luck on your hunts!
Outstanding terminology and I agree! It is nice when I return to spots hunted when I 1st started detecting. Now I find the good stuff there! Thank you for watching and commenting. Good luck on your hunts!
Hello, SnapCircuits. Well, I can advise not to get one of the less than $200 models as they disappoint. I do recommend any multi-frequency machine which I believe Nokta has some at reasonably affordable prices. My friend Chris @wicked_digger is a representative and could better help with your question. His channel name is Wicked Digger. He's a great guy too. Thank you for watching and good luck with your hunts!
great video!! 1 question,, is there any detector that will know the difference between a beer cap and a quarter? my ace 400 shows a coin everytime over these pesky bottle caps
Hello and thank you! I don't have any experince with the Ace. Bottle caps ring 20-21 on my Nox and quarters are 30 so it's easy for me to tell with that machine. However, there still are some cool targets that ring up the same as bottle caps too. I usually leave those for times when I return to sites 2nd or 3rd times just to make sure. Good luck on your hunts!
Thanks, Shed Man! Someday you will run across a machine at a good price and maybe give her a shot. Those woods sites you went to have treasure I'd say.
Thank you very much! I appreciate that. These tips are the ones I thought of that helped me the most. Still much to learn though. God bless you as well!
Hello Kenny and thank you! VDI is the number that displays on the machine for a given target. For example: a nickel is 13, but a silver dime is 28. Different machines have different scales and numbers. This video uses a Minelab Equinox 800. However, the principles are the same for all machines. Hope this answers your question and have a great week!
Glad I watched this. Coming up on 3 years, but still a lot to learn. Thank you for these tips. I’ve seen them before but not explained as clearly. I’m swinging a Nokta Simplex + and have my first farm field permit. My very first target was a soda can. Also lots of bottle caps too. Any tips on distinguishing them from possible gold jewelry or nickels that I want to dig? Also I’ve seen plenty of phantom signal. These are ones where I get a solid hi tone both ways. Then dig the hole only to find absolutely nothing, no matter how deep I dig. Thanks, Dave. Reading, PA
Thanks Dave! I haven't had success in distinguishing the lower tones, so I still dig many pull tabs and bottle caps. I also have got some phantom signals. If nothing good shows, I move on pretty quickly. One thing I have learned is to dig signals that are loud, repeatable both ways, and not large. Hope this helps and good luck on your hunts! PA is a good state to detect in!
As someone who got into hobby back in February of this year, I wish I had found this video sooner. Thank you for posting this! I'm currently swinging a simplex that has loss depth over time. It's junk and I'm torn between a Nox900 or the Mantcore.
I'm glad you liked the video. That means a lot to me! I have the Nox 800 & 900 both. I still like the 800 best, probably since I'm so used to it. Good luck on your hunts!
I use the Garrett Carrot & how I narrow my target down is by detuning it. Let’s say it’s going off soon as you stick your pinpointer in the hole. I simply press the button once & it will detune it to that distance then every time it goes off I press the button again & so on until I’m right on the target. It’s super fast & you’ll narrow it down within 5 sec. Your way is also good, but you won’t have to turn pinpointer on & off.
Thanks for the tip, Kody! There's always something new to learn. I get this gear and rush right out to use it sometimes without doing a full deep-dive to know all the options. Good luck on your hunts!
@@Treasure-Charger after I sent that message I seen someone else had already mentioned it. I’ve got the TekPoint, Nokta Pulsedive & Garrett Carrot plus I’ve had the Minelab ProFind 35 & I’ll reach for the Garrett Carrot. It’s just tried & true. Simple to use & never false’s. The main thing I look for in a PP is the ease of use & I don’t want to have to look down at PP every time I want to turn on/off. I want to be able to feel button without looking. My 2nd fav is the TekPoint. It’s actually a little deeper than the Garrett Carrot & is also easy to find button without looking at it. Thanks for video.
Great tips as always, I call it a coil sweep instead of swing. I knew that I could tap the button once on the carrot, but am excited to try the excellent tip of gbing in the hole with it. 👍👍👍
Cool! Yes, that pinpointer rings so loud in a deep hole it's difficult to tell where the target is. It sure helps and I'm glad to share that. Good luck on your hunts!
