This keeps coming up on my TH-cam feed and I love it. I saw SRV live a few times. One solid memory was him opening for Dire Straights. I needn't tell you that the warm-up band was the real show that night. No one better.
I saw him do this in person a couple of times. I'd been playing for a while. I thought that he couldn't be THAT good. So, I saw him for the first time. 20 seconds in, I thought, "I suck!" lol. Pretty defining moment in my teens.
BB King said if he missed a note he knew how to cover it up, but Stevie never learned that because he never once missed a single note. Wow to have BB say that about you would be awesome.
I read an interview a while back where the drummer said that SRV would start playing the song at whatever tempo he felt like playing and they just had to go with it. Sometimes it was double the track tempo.
Stevie needed chris and Tommy, he'd blow doors off by himself, but with double trouble he'd burn everything to the ground. They were perfect for him, as he was perfect for them. Tommy played for Johnny winter, he definitely knew how to keep up, and back up the thunder
I once hat a guitar teacher who told me to remember that what you can hear on records is just a good take of many ones. That may be true, but, you know, this is Stevie Ray. Perfectly fine performance. Thanks for sharing.
His playing seemed flawless, never sloppy or not bending to the right pitch. In fact his live performances are better than the studio versions. The only studio version I prefer over live is Lenny, but the Carnegie hall performance is excellent.
He takes time out to make sure the people working behind the scenes as well as his bandmates get the credit for producing the show…after delivering a blistering performance himself… a truly humble gentleman besides being a legendary performer! Rest In Power, Mr.Vaughan, you are truly unforgettable!
I saw Stevie close the Capitol Theater in Passaic New Jersey many big band played there. Also saw him in New York City at the pier. Every show is amazing
+paddie3535-You are so lucky - twice! I’ve heard him say in interviews that he preferred smaller venues because they were more intimate. I can just imagine the electrical energy in the audience. Wish I could have been there.
@@kerouacrivero6914 Tomorrow I'll be at home. I'll gladly send you a wetranfer link with the entire bootleg if you subscribe to my channel. I play a lot of SRV oriented blues rock with my band and I'm trying to get more subscribers to my channel. Cheers!
There are nights…. when I have nothing to do with it. There have been nights when I start playing chord solos, and I don’t know any of the chords. There have been nights when I completely lost it, and by the time it struck me, I wouldn’t even know what song I was playing anymore. Sometimes it’s effortless… but the chill bumps are worth it when you get em’ SRV
I’ve played the guitar for 20 years now and I’ve put in many hours of practice BUT I gave up on this one a long time ago!! This guy was ASTOUNDING!!! The same goes for other songs such as Scuttle Buttin,’ Stang’s Swang etc........the best I can do is approximate them!!
Stevie, sober, I saw them on this tour in Sydney Nova Scotia, yes, Sydney! Phenomenal show!, couple of thousand fans, not sure why he came all the way up there but we were so very blessed to see him. Only a few thousand but he played as though he was playing for sold out arena! I still have the t-shirt-the girl in the front row with the guitars.
I just watched 3 or 4 covers of this song and I thought to myself..."Hey, not too bad". Now watching the real thing I realize those other guys were only playing at half speed.
Imagine some of the Texas Bar ,night clubs ...SRV on stage , putting everyone in awe ...like like page ...Vaugh has his own style ..very important if your a guitar player ...
I love to play my drums along with him he is one of if not the best blues rock and country guitar player that my ears have ever witnessed this man had no in and when they made him they broke the mole, this man is unbelievable when I hear him play he brings out a lot out of me things that I thought I could never play and that speaks volumes damn it I wish I could have seen him live I bet anyone who's seen him louder with energetic through the whole concert if it does that to me I can just imagine how the people work when they were listening from live
One of my favorite vids of Stevie. This guy is a machine!!! Hey if you like this vid, go find Texas Flood track - Live at ElMcambo. It’s just sick!! Oh my.....the fan picking..
I think this is his first concert after getting clean, his next one was Boston Mass.which I missed cause I went to an NA meeting thinking I catch him next time he came through. Never happened.
I worked at Fitzgerald's when Stevie played he was so much better when he wasn't famous,he was never a rocker, he was a blues man.i waited on billy gibbons Aaron Neville, every time he played David Bowie fucked him by we were all so sad for be behind that at Fitz,. I'm so glad I got to see him before Fame poisoned him, unbelievable guitarist, you had to be there
he is the best guitar player in history.
There is an argument for it cant see Hendrix playing this that fast with that much precision.
@@ryanwilliams4223 Yeah but Hendrix invented this style of playing in the first place and influenced SRV.
This keeps coming up on my TH-cam feed and I love it. I saw SRV live a few times. One solid memory was him opening for Dire Straights. I needn't tell you that the warm-up band was the real show that night. No one better.
I didn't know it was humanly possible to play that fast... Then again Stevie wasn't human...
I saw him do this in person a couple of times. I'd been playing for a while. I thought that he couldn't be THAT good. So, I saw him for the first time. 20 seconds in, I thought, "I suck!" lol. Pretty defining moment in my teens.
SRV wasn't human he was Texan
Find this one played by Tommy Katona (srv incarnation) , he can do even faster!
@@AdamVrbasCZ no, not really. But he's a darn good player!

I've never heard this guy miss a note the 40 years I've been listening to him!!!
BB King said if he missed a note he knew how to cover it up, but Stevie never learned that because he never once missed a single note. Wow to have BB say that about you would be awesome.
Saw him when I was 16 in 1984… Mesmerizing…. And playing alot with his eyes closed
I'll bet when he started that fast........Chris and Tommy was thinking..... omg really.... we got to keep up with THAT? lol
I read an interview a while back where the drummer said that SRV would start playing the song at whatever tempo he felt like playing and they just had to go with it. Sometimes it was double the track tempo.
BluesHawk4b
I saw that as well....... those guys deserve more credit just for being able to keep up during the live shows.
Well Stevie was clearly "Hard as a rock" so its only natural to start so fast. Trust me Tommy & Chris where riding the SRV wave into madness.....
STEVIE AND HIS BAND WERE VERY UNDERRATED
Stevie needed chris and Tommy, he'd blow doors off by himself, but with double trouble he'd burn everything to the ground. They were perfect for him, as he was perfect for them. Tommy played for Johnny winter, he definitely knew how to keep up, and back up the thunder
Holy fuck that was furiously fast, well executed and just handled like a complete boss all around. Seriously missed talented guitar player.
Guys an absolute beast on that axe..... WOW DUDE!!!!!

Rest In Power, Mr.Vaughan, you are truly unforgettable!
That's exactly why people love him so....a great compassionate man.. (Not to mention his mind blowing talent)!
There will never be another SRV..
Played that song different everytime. A TRUE LEGEND AND ICON .SRV.
I saw Stevie close the Capitol Theater in Passaic New Jersey many big band played there. Also saw him in New York City at the pier. Every show is amazing
Never heard that ending b4.....wow, talent!!
I thought I had seen every SRV video out there, but I hadn't seen this one. Even for Stevie this is amazing!
+Alberto Chandia- I agree!
Pat, Did you ever get to see Stevie?
No, never live. I wish I had, but I listen to his music every single day.
Pat Allen I saw him a couple of times in small venues but he still played like he was on fire.

Stevie was The Greatest .. always will be !!!!
That had to be the fastest version I ever heard of that song....WOW!
I'm pretty sure the fastest one is the one he plays at Montezuma Hall in dec/1983, ridiculously fast
Idc how much of a shredder any guitarist claims to be, they’ll all crumble trying this one the first few times.
first thousand times you mean
I TLD my friend I met SRV...he was like amazed someone that talented....he said SRV was his favorite!
He was just ABSOLUT MINDBLOWING Genius ....
He played it really fast and effortless...SRV was the MAN!!! Period!!! Untouchable!!
God Bless Stevie Ray!!!
Back in the day....you never loan a Stevie Ray Vaughn tape out, it was never returned.
I'm a guitarist and I keep finding clips of SRV smoking the guitar like this and it blows me away. Thanks for sharing this.
this is the fastest version of this song
It's sped up. Drop your settings to .75

I was lucky enough to see him live three times...SRV and Frank Marino were the best I've ever seen!!!
I haven't seen anyone else mention Frank Marino in a very long time. Talk about one of the greatest least known guitarists!
