The thing about Stevie is that he never held anything back. As soon as he touched a guitar the Blues just came cascading out of every cell in his body. He was full tilt wide open every time he played. Phenomenal.
As incredible as it was to see Stevie in his earlier days...raw, hungry, consumed.....after he cleaned up there was such a clarity and control to his music and playing. It didn't lose its edge at all or become more academic, etc, it was just better, tighter, clearer. Makes it that much more painful that we lost him so early. He was truly at his best here. If there's anyone in rock to take inspiration from, it's him. The last true guitar hero. The best there was.
Eric Clapton Rolling Stone Interview speaking on the night of SRV's helicopter crash. "The worst thing for me was that Stevie Ray had been sober for three years and was at his peak. When he played that night, he had all of us standing mere with our jaws dropped. I mean, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan and Buddy Guy were just watching in awe. There was no one better than him on this planet. Really unbelievable"
I saw him early in a small venue called JBs theater and I also saw him at larger events and finally when I saw he cleaned up his act and got sober, I was thinking there's a little less fear of him dying on us, and less fear of the tragic alcohol or drug induced death, and now he's going to live a very long life, sort of like a BB King or Les Paul type of legend. I was so wrong, and very sad that I'd never get to buy a ticket and see him again. One of my favorites is Riviera Paradise.
Had the opportunity to meet the man, having scored backstage passes for myself and my then very pregnant wife. The line backstage was huge, and she couldn't stand any longer, so she went to sit down on a table in the corner. I stuck it out and he came out to meet the fans, a bloody towel wrapped around his fingers. Some guy yelled out, "So, whaddya gonna do now, man?" referencing his bloody, lotion-slick fingers. Stevie Ray just smiled, "Well, now I just get out the slide!" He had to play extra hard that night because Jeff Beck, had the flu and had to leave early. They were swapping top billing, one night Stevie, the next night, Jeff, but you could see how sick Jeff was, and after a few songs Steve Ray came out to spell him. So I waited in line till it was my turn to meet the man, after at least 50 people, each receiving a genuine smile, firm handshake and a look straight in the eye. I stepped up and he shook my hand, good firm grip, looked me straight in the eye. I told him I first saw him in Mannheim, Germany in '85 at the Festhalle, which is where they held town meetings, and of course fests. We grabbed a piece of floor five feet from the stage, which was only about four feet higher than the audience, so I was about 15 feet away from him as he just tore the house down! Anyway, after he signed my backstage pass, I asked him if, after he was done with all the folks behind me in line, he might come over and sign my pregnant wife's leg, since that's where she pasted her backstage pass, and said he would. I went over to stand with her, and sure enough, he came over, sat on the edge of the table and signed her pass, and we had a nice chat. He said his next stop was home and back to his baby. I think he and Lenny were getting back together. I commented that he did a little Hendrix medley, Voodoo Chile, Little Wing, The Wind Cries Mary, ending up with Mary had a Little Lamb. "You liked that? Well, I'm glad. We weren't sure how it would go over. I'm glad you dug it." Then it was time to go, and he shook my hand one more time, squeezed my wife's shoulder, and said, "Take care, and good luck with that baby," and you could feel he really meant it. Such a class act!
That story actually just choked me up. What a loss, he'll never be replaced. There was/is nobody who sounded like Stevie - a true original. Thanks for sharing.
Good God, we were robbed. This man has been gone 30 years, and I'm still blown away by his performances. And most everyone recognizes that he was an awesome guitarist, but his singing may be the most underrated in blues-rock. His voice haunts me, and I miss him so much.

@@chrisg.209 I'd say going to see Dweezil Zappa and the Muthas play a local show about 4 years ago is the most musically entertained I've ever been for under $50. Some in the Chicago blues scene I'd say were definitively better or equal with SRV in intuitive handling of the guitar and songwriting but the style he cut in for himself and the ease with which he did it for a wider audience is top shelf. You instantly know it's a SRV joint in the first 5 bars.
If there was a God, he would still be with us, he's jammin in the cosmos with all the musicians that have moved on to the next realm with Bach Beethoven Little Richard Chuck Berry Robert Johnson BB King ...and James Brown Heh !

I remember I was watching Stevie’s last concert that was aired on Austin City Limits. He was awesome. The very next morning I heard on the news over the radio about his death in a helicopter crash leaving Alpine Valley. I was shocked and looked at the radio and said in my mind, “ I just watched him in a live concert just a few hours ago and now he is dead.” I do believe that was not only the fact that he really gave that concert is very best but more his willingness to even help strangers get off drugs and alcohol. The man lived by what he preached. He was truly a great man.
I put this comment under "Without You"-- Nashville, but wanted you to also see reply personally because your comment touched me so much, so... here goes... Not to be preachy, but I believe God left him here long enough to get salvation, then took him home to paradise to be with him. We got to keep him a few more years clean, sober for him to be a witness, then time to go to his Heavenly Abode to be with Jesus. I know I'll see Stevie in the Heavenly choir. Hallelujah !!! I guess I ended up being " preachy " anyway. but I think Stevie would have liked it and said "Show some love". Adding to this, was a hospice patient ( medical care with less than 6 months to live), 18years ago. Back on it and won't be long before going to join SRV. Delivering my "witness" almost completed. I hope this helps someone to find the WAY !!! God Bless

When I was jounger, I used to spend my lonely nights in blues bars. That's where I heard Stevie play for the first time on a tape between two sets of a random live band. It was an instant strike. He got me into LOVING the Stratocaster and wanting to play the guitar which I began to do a few weeks later on a shitty strat copy I bought to a schoolmate and that I had to hide from my parents who just hated electric guitars not to mention their players. And today, 35yrs later, he is still my absolute guitar hero. He learnt me about everything about guitars and how to play the blues the way I really like it... What a beast! I consider him like a soulbrother. Never felt such a loss than the day he left us. I cried like I lost my own brother. I loved him, his sound, his feely musicality...everything about his playing resonated in me. And still does. There are a few people I really hope to meet one day up there. My longgone beloved grandfather and Stevie are definitely two of them. I could never thank him enough for all he brought into my life.
So Reno, you better be good if you want to end up with these very special souls, should you be so fortunate!!! Even if your parents didn't understand about the guitar & guitarists, we KNOW G-D DOES!!!
Me too girl . Nothing like a man that has something he’s really really REALLY good and talented at to also be super humble at the same time . Very VERY attractive. It’s the confidence and pure raw talent
never got to meet SRV i saw him 3 times my family and i was out boating on 8/27/1990 listening to his music we turned on the radio to change CD and we heard the news we all began to cry just like i did reading every ones beautiful comments here tonight. He touched a lot of souls and still is.Thanks SRV for giving me the opportunity to meet Tommy and Chris in 2003 at a KWS Double Trouble concert YOU ARE THE GREATEST EVER RIP BROTHER
Same here.....SRV was playing in Houston(I was living in Galveston) I guess it was around 89-90 and a buddy of mine called me and said let's go check him out....I told him i was too busy with a girl....girl is gone and so is Stevie...I miss Stevie more.
I saw SRV the night before he passed. Clapton was amazing and Robert Cray killed, but SRV stole the stage. SRV will always be the GOAT in my opinion. Legendary!
When I woke up to learn that he died I’m not ashamed to say I cried like a baby. I went downstairs, strapped on my guitar and played his music all damn day.
I 👍 agree. His band was perfect for him, and I enjoyed seeing all of them together, every single one one of them, but he's the one that's gone way too soon. I've seen them close up in a small venue in Albany NY, called JB's theater, and that was the most memorable of the five times I was given to see them.
I saw SRV with Double Trouble and The Fabulous Thunderbirds when he came to Australia 🇦🇺, Like the crowd we marvelled at his talent & passion too. RIP STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN 😢 🙏
The fact that Stevie Ray's hands moved so fluidly along his guitar merely cements the astounding excellence that was his... I miss him so VERY MUCH!!! Always felt like he inherited the Spirit of his idol Jimi Hendrix - another lost FAR TOO SOON....
Feeling like crap this week, been sick with bronchitis since Xmass eve. Feel a whole lot better now. Nothing like SRV therapy, medicine for mind, body and soul. Thank U Stevie Ray, you are the gift that keeps on giving. ☮️to all.
Stevie live at the el mocambo in Toronto on dvd is a great testament. Also he was booed at the 1st concert at Montreux and on the second dvd for Montreux he was exalted because they understood where he was coming from. GBG NO EDITS.
I am not a god person but there is no way in hell this comes from somewhere else. I had the fortune to see SRV one time live. It was nothing but completely awe inspiring but this video is off the charts. Watch it over and over and look at him and his body language and look at his eyes. He's just doing something because there's no way he can't do it.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was an amazing guitarist, and vocalist as well. He was a loving, and humble man. That comes through when watching, and listening to him play. I will certainly alway's miss him. He was a gift from God. I have never come across this performance. I'm so glad to get to see it. Losing Stevie was devastating, but I am so thankful that we can watch him on u-tube! So thank you for sharing this performance, of Stevie, Chris, Tommy and Reese.
Why want Stevie ray Vaughan listed as one of the greatest guitarists of life on this planet like Eddie van Halen ?Stevie gave his best for us just like Eddie. But Stevie played outstanding guitar on every one of his songs . Yes , I started with jimi Hendricks but in my opinion; Stevie ray Vaughan blew jimi away.!!!!thanks Stevie , you and your guitar playing and your songs change my life forever !!!!!!!!🤘🎸🤠
SRV. What amazing talent can only imagine he would have accomplished. Breaks my ♥ he left us so very soon. Here he was putting it all out for a good cause Jerry Lewis telethon. Tells you alot the kind of person he was. Down to earth compassionate man with a heart of gold. Anyone who appreciates music can clearly see a true genius. RIP and always a pleasure to watch his concerts. ♥
My god what a phenomenal talent, I am so grateful to have seen him live in concert just as his career was ascending. A devastating loss to the music world he will never be duplicated, imitated or replaced. Bless you SRV and thank you for the music, it will live on forever.
Linda Ward nah, an entire childhood trying to keep up with his big brother, guitar in hand early on. Only to zoom past him as soon as he had some talent to play with and a stage to do it on.
@@davidc1961utube I still like to think it came with him as a gift when he was born because watching him play was an experience not just a performance...
@@peterdanngren9575 that's it in a nutshell my friend...although some can do it better but I don't get into the "who's the best" shredder because that's ridiculous to me. SRV is definitely a favorite and I wish we could hear him playing with Clapton today. Sigh.
One of the greatest honours of my life was watching the Fabulous Thunderbirds open up for Stevie in Indianapolis. The Blues was so thick you could feel it running down your leg that night, and for the encore, Stevie and Jimmie brought out an old Mossrite Double-neck and did a duet. And this was BEFORE family style and such. Watching the Vaughan brothers play together was a religious experience.
We are so lucky that this was recorded so beautifully bc if the JL telethon. It showcases not only the amazing SRV and his ultra tight band Double Trouble but it was right after SRV got off the blow and in this moment ,he was in a state of gracee and he is so generous that he shared that with us to. When he told his personal story and shared His message about how distracting drugs can be we see a true hero. IIt ook guts to make the little spontaneous public service and gratitude message. We see so much of his personality they this whole concert, adjusting his amp, talking about this going out live to a huge audience and being so touched, not a too cool entitled rock star, just a good man, a real man When he spoke of personal lost and found he was humble, not preachy and so sincere especially when he said it's is our job to spread that love around... it gives me chicken skin even if I watched it a hundred times. Thanks for the reminder my brother. The crowd is digging him and radiating love to him and to this day that love remains unchanged or diminished in any way. Love is love and it didn't die when that crash of his helicopter took him away from us. We are still loving him . Brute force colliding with perscission that's his signature. Love and light to you Stevie you are our hero.
@@ZiddersRooFurry how do you know he had to practice? Some genius's are given a talent that others must spend a lifetime to achieve. SRV was a genius. He never struggled when he played. It was like breathing to him. Now tell me I'm reading too far into it.

Lucky me, old enough here in the UK to have seen Jimi Hendrix twice and SRV only British visit, two of the greatest electric guitarist ever. 🎸
Lucky you indeed!!! Cheers!!!
Master of guitar at Work..
Absolute master at work ...RIP SRV
He can play guitar better behind is back than most of us will ever be able to in front of us.
With a broken guitar string! And no auto-tune!
You instantly know it's a SRV joint in the first 5 bars.
and missing 2 strings lol
Dear God that is the truth!
More talent in his little finger than most others can even think about. Best modern blues man ever. God bless you Stevie Ray Vaughan
If there was a God, he would still be with us, he's jammin in the cosmos with all the musicians that have moved on to the next realm with Bach Beethoven Little Richard Chuck Berry Robert Johnson BB King ...and James Brown Heh !
@@derbf1 SRV believed in Jesus. That's why I'm responding to your comment. I hope you have a change of heart. Heaven is a real place. God is a supernatural person. Shalom Shalom.
What ever helps people be nice to others I have no problems with that.

Well I Richard Goodman senior well for these 779 people that don't like this video they are the people that make this this world a bad place to live
God Bless
Saint Stevie brother.

Debra Wardlaw you are welcome.
gotta be alien, nobody else on earth plays like that ! I just wonder if any of the crowd realized the greatness they were witnessing . Incredible !
Unfortunately, many didn't
I too wonder if anyone in that crowd, realized that they were witnessing greatness.
That’s why I went,, it was Beautiful
Doesn't look like it, i'dve been hopping happy mad!!!
I was able to see Stevie live 1 time he was like watching a comet that will only come around once in your life.
Comets crash and burn
Damn. He breaks a string with the guitar behind his back and handles it like a boss.
His voice, his clothes, his eyes, his talent, I literally swoon when I listen to him❤️
As a rule, I have told my past 2 employers so as to save my ass!!!. If a SRV song comes up on the radio " I STOP " !!! Haven't had an argument yet.
In these ol' eyes o' mine he will ALWAYS be #SRVsexybeast
Me too! I have loved him since the beginning, always will.
Me too girl . Nothing like a man that has something he’s really really REALLY good and talented at to also be super humble at the same time . Very VERY attractive. It’s the confidence and pure raw talent
He is very sexy
never got to meet SRV i saw him 3 times my family and i was out boating on 8/27/1990 listening to his music we turned on the radio to change CD and we heard the news we all began to cry just like i did reading every ones beautiful comments here tonight. He touched a lot of souls and still is.Thanks SRV for giving me the opportunity to meet Tommy and Chris in 2003 at a KWS Double Trouble concert YOU ARE THE GREATEST EVER RIP BROTHER
Probably the best rock and blues guitarist of them all.incredible control,Stevie was from another world.
I didn’t appreciate this guy enough while he was with us. Rock n Roll with the blues don’t get much better than this
You hit the nail right on the head my brother peace out have a blessed day
You hit the nail right on the head my brother you have a blessed day you know your music
Same here.....SRV was playing in Houston(I was living in Galveston) I guess it was around 89-90 and a buddy of mine called me and said let's go check him out....I told him i was too busy with a girl....girl is gone and so is Stevie...I miss Stevie more.
Where is Kenny Wayne Sheppard? A protege!
These Guitar master's alway's make listening great. Got to see BB KING WITH KENNY WAYNE SHEPPARD IN BELTON, TX...FREAKIN' AWESOME.
The one, the only ,Steven Ray Vaughan!
I saw SRV the night before he passed. Clapton was amazing and Robert Cray killed, but SRV stole the stage. SRV will always be the GOAT in my opinion. Legendary!
The Blues had a baby and they named it Stevie
Stevie's sobriety gives me the most inspiration. One day at a time brother.
Contrived, sobby bs.
When I woke up to learn that he died I’m not ashamed to say I cried like a baby. I went downstairs, strapped on my guitar and played his music all damn day.
My dad did the same
I with you dude it’s sad to know that he has left this earth I’m learning some of his songs right now R.I.P STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN
Amen bro
Best guitaris ever ,since gutair was invented
We were at work ,it came over the radio, I picked up the radio and tossed it..
Nothing before, nor nothing after shines as bright as this blazing fire…
Pure crackling charisma. The authenticity. He was ELECTRIC! His band, damn. Goosebumps every single time.
💙 💜 💙 💜 💙
I 👍 agree.
His band was perfect for him, and I enjoyed seeing all of them together, every single one one of them, but he's the one that's gone way too soon.
I've seen them close up in a small venue in Albany NY, called JB's theater, and that was the most memorable of the five times I was given to see them.
No matter how many times |I watch his live performances, he is electric every time. Very few can match this brilliance.
Stevie ray & jeff healey were ,are soul mates. R.I.P.
Dude just made every other guitar players day on that stage a living hell. Mic drop!!!
"As always Stevie just goes out and flat out kills it everytime,he will always be the man"
I was at his last show the night he passed away 😔
I saw SRV with Double Trouble and The Fabulous Thunderbirds when he came to Australia 🇦🇺,
Like the crowd we marvelled at his talent & passion too.
RIP STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN 😢 🙏
His music was timeless 100 yrs after we're gone they'll still b playing SRV he is/was that good..
Yes
Ahhh. What joyful music. I saw him in Cincinnati with Gregg Allman opening. What a concert. I’m also a huge Johnny Winter fan
Hell yes!
I worship the ground that Stevie Ray walks on
His rendition of "Little Wing" is the closet to guitar heaven as we on earth will EVER come...
lol besides the original obviouly
For sure!!!
better than the original imo
I agree, better than the Hendrix version.
Only a guitar player can understand how great that version is.
Yo
The fact that Stevie Ray's hands moved so fluidly along his guitar merely cements the astounding excellence that was his... I miss him so VERY MUCH!!! Always felt like he inherited the Spirit of his idol Jimi Hendrix - another lost FAR TOO SOON....
And don't forget his keyboard player who holds up the middle as Stevie solos!
Hendrix wasn’t HALF of the player SRV was
If you ever saw Stevie Ray in concert the experience stays with you forever.
Saw SRV and double trouble greg Allman
🎸 That’s how we Roll in Texas !!!
Pure gold. Never ever gets old! SRV one of the best ever if not the best!
Feeling like crap this week, been sick with bronchitis since Xmass eve. Feel a whole lot better now. Nothing like SRV therapy, medicine for mind, body and soul. Thank U Stevie Ray, you are the gift that keeps on giving. ☮️to all.
SEEN HIM IN 83 AT THE EL MACAMBO ROOM HE WASNT SOBER YET BUT HIS PLAYING WAS AS PURE AS IT ALWAYS WAS RIP SRV
Stevie live at the el mocambo in Toronto on dvd is a great testament. Also he was booed at the 1st concert at Montreux and on the second dvd for Montreux he was exalted because they understood where he was coming from. GBG NO EDITS.
61, u missed it. Incredible.
I am so jealous man❤
I am not a god person but there is no way in hell this comes from somewhere else.
With family Father's heveanly loving side..®
Why want Stevie ray Vaughan listed as one of the greatest guitarists of life on this planet like Eddie van Halen ?Stevie gave his best for us just like Eddie. But Stevie played outstanding guitar on every one of his songs . Yes , I started with jimi Hendricks but in my opinion; Stevie ray Vaughan blew jimi away.!!!!thanks Stevie , you and your guitar playing and your songs change my life forever !!!!!!!!🤘🎸🤠
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Hi I saw. Sev when he was not totally popular abdU thought what R peoplenotgettingHe wasrhebestguiatarist since Jimi Hendrix

My god what a phenomenal talent, I am so grateful to have seen him live in concert just as his career was ascending. A devastating loss to the music world he will never be duplicated, imitated or replaced. Bless you SRV and thank you for the music, it will live on forever.
❤️
SRV was a SAVAGE. Eric Clapton said that Stevie didn’t have to think about what to play, he just played
he didn't read music from what i understand. it must have come with him when he was born, soul deep.
That's blues. No thinking, feelings...
@@peterdanngren9575 that's it in a nutshell my friend...although some can do it better but I don't get into the "who's the best" shredder because that's ridiculous to me. SRV is definitely a favorite and I wish we could hear him playing with Clapton today. Sigh.
I still can't believe he's gone one in a fuckin million
He flips the setting switch on the amp, asks if the guys are ready than at 01:46 give the stank face and digs in. The man was a force of nature.
I've said it before, n' l'll say again and again, saw Stevie 8 phenomenal times, one word... SUPERNATURAL...!
@@stellalush4547 Lucky you!!!!!!!!!! 💗 💖 💘 💝 💟 ☮️
He always flipped the switch on the amp, his sound man finally required it so Stevie thought he was doing something
Don’t forget Double Trouble. Damn fine in their own right.
Chris sounds FANTASTIC in the mix
After SRV died I saw Double Trouble back Johnny Winter in a small club. They were great. And of course so was JW.
And Arc Angels
One of the greatest honours of my life was watching the Fabulous Thunderbirds open up for Stevie in Indianapolis. The Blues was so thick you could feel it running down your leg that night, and for the encore, Stevie and Jimmie brought out an old Mossrite Double-neck and did a duet. And this was BEFORE family style and such. Watching the Vaughan brothers play together was a religious experience.
SRV was one of a kind who left us too soon
Why can't I give this another thumbs up, each time I watch it???
👍👍There's my two💞
We are so lucky that this was recorded so beautifully bc if the JL telethon.
The man could make that guitar talk! I wish I could have seen him live. Crazy good!
Losing him might have been the greatest loss to guitar playing, and music in general in a century. Noboby comes close to him in talent.
He was an ANGEL on Fire when played. He is so full of the HOLY SPIRIT when he plays.
He was just a dude who practiced a lot. Quit reading so much into it.
@@ZiddersRooFurry just fuck the fuck up….. can you do it.
@@ZiddersRooFurry how do you know he had to practice? Some genius's are given a talent that others must spend a lifetime to achieve. SRV was a genius. He never struggled when he played. It was like breathing to him. Now tell me I'm reading too far into it.
This is not music played by the Holy Spirit, this is the devils music. Blues music won’t be played in heaven.
