I hate when people say "talent" when it comes to guitar. When in reality it takes decades of blood, sweat, and tears to be this good at guitar, I had no doubt in my mind that Stevie played nearly every minute of the day whenever he had his guitar and only stopped when his fingers physically couldn't play anymore and then he'd do it again and again for years ever since he was a kid because he was utterly mesmerized by it after hearing it on the radio and also from his brother, It's not "Talent," If anything it's true love for the instrument and the dedication to play it every single day for hours just because it sounds so goddamn good, If I ever die and get reincarnated without my guitar then it would turn into my own personal hell, as I can't imagine a life where I can't play guitar anymore let alone someone like SRV or Jimi where their guitars were practically embedded with their souls at that point as you hear from their music, People use talent as an excuse when they don't want to recognize the effort someone made to become this good, almost beyond words to a level where they know they'd never reach without decades of hard work, Because it DOES take decades of hard work and love for your craft to be this good

That high action is what he learned on. Built him fingers of steel from an early age. He used very thick strings which gave him a unique tone. He basically took acoustic guitar playing and redefined it into a Strat sound which no one had done. His strumming hand is the key to his playing. Sublime and technical. Backwards sweeps and beautiful effortless strums.......He was so good.

He caught my attention early, a long with Jerry Reed, a few years later. Then I grew up and discovered The Eagles, Boston, and a few others. But, I never forgot about Roy Clark. He, and the others will always be my inspiration for playing, even though I'm a classic rocker at heart. Take It Easy was the first stone that I taught myself to play. I cant handle Roy's songs, even after years of playing.

No doubt, and anyone who says differently is an amateur, jealous, lame-brain moron. He doesn't just play songs on the guitar, he becomes the songs. SRV had a deep-rooted, spiritual connection that goes right through him to his fingers and the strings because what he does on the guitar is not human and no one else, including Hendrix, has ever matched his talent and maybe no one ever will. These fast-picking, show-off, oh, so, cold, egotistical, amateur guitar players nowadays can learn something from the master, SRV...it's not about speed, it's about feeling, originality and uniqueness! RIP, SRV!

Such a delicious video. I loved how the camera guy focused in on his right hand for so much of it. That - combined with the thicker strings and wider neck of the acoustic that necessitates emphasis of the picking motion - provides an illuminating view of his incomparable picking technique. Every note is anticipated and attacked with absolute precision, to form perfectly arced phrases and melodic lines, with impeccable clarity, all at mach speed! What a treasure he was and remains.

You can always tell when the cameraman is actually a musician. We have all seen those live videos where the camera man stays focused on the rhythm guitar player during the guitar solo, instead of the lead guitar player that's actually playing it. It is baffling to me that some people can't figure it out which person is playing rhythm guitar and which person is playing the solo.

It more than just the same key, its the same rhythm and many of the same licks. I'd call it a jam based on pride and joy.

It's just a basic 12-ish blues in E; the reason it sounds like "Pride And Joy" is because that song is one of a trillion 12-bar boogie blues in E.

Back in the day, when I was young I had an old hippie ( who said hippies were assholes) took me to see all the greatest guitar players alive at the time except maybe one or two - SRV was miles above the rest. The first time I saw him at the Beacon in NYC had no clue who he was....blew my mind like my children being born. I will still hold that night in the top five experiences of my life - saw him 4 more times - love him like a brother though I only got about 8 feet away at a college show I waited 4 hours online to be up front - He was the greatest by far and if you don't know this it's not your fault - I was lucky that old hippie took me to see all the best alive - again SRV = miles above the rest - I miss you Stevie!

Stevie play is a song on this old Gibson.
    Stevie: sure.
15 minutes later Stevie hands you back a box of sawdust with a guitar neck.
