I use Amalgam Captures. I think they are awesome. As much as I enjoyed Tonex, I sold it once I bought and used my Cortex. Full size and Nano. So much better for me.

They just lowered the Tonex to $299. Even still, I’m struggling between the Nano Cortex and Tonex. At that price point… would you still say the Nano is worth the extra money?

Been playing around with the ToneX pedal for a few days now. Can’t stop playing the Amalgam presets it came with. I’m going to use the ToneX for jamming and keep using my Quad Cortex for gigging.

Tonex for me. I have both but like the response of tone better. I may have to try out these Amalgam IRs

17:55 if you used a TONEX DI model I suspect the differences would be much less pronounced. I think it’s more to do with how TONEX ‘Deconstructs’ the amp+cab capture than anything else. I’ve got amalgam JT50 amp+cab and they’re great, but I also got a DI capture in their amp kits and there’s much more flexibility and, in my mind, bettererness. Quite the rabbit hole!

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. There's something inherent in how an amp/ speaker tone model is deconstructed that likely affects the tone when you change to a different IR

I thought the ToneX sounded less full and more compressed. I agree that Amalgam captures are fantastic! Wonder which one you thought felt better under your fingers? Tone is one thing but feel and response - to me - always is more important.

      Honestly, they felt very similar.

Ha! I was about to comment just the opposite. Tonex sounded slightly better to my ears, though very similar 🤷‍♂️

    Tonex for the win.

Wow, the ToneX takes drive pedals really well. Better than the Nano.

You didn't tweak the EQ settings in nano

I did not. I didn't do any EQ changes on the Tonex so it seemed like I should not do that on the Nano either. Keep it equal as much as possible.

I own tonex, but in this comparison cortex sound much fuller and better, tonex working at 44,1 khz and i dont like that quality (sory for my English)😂

humans cannot hear the difference between 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz audio.

Tonex pedal and one, both works internally at 192khz 24 bit with 123 of dinamic range, the 44.1khz is only through usb. The difference you hear can depend from the fact tonex capture is made by audio interface and how the audio interface settings is, instead nano cortex make capture by itself. You can found some other video where tonex sound better than cortex and vice versa.
